We do welcome volunteers with no previous experience of community transport in order, to attract different skills, particularly as Trustees. This charity received charitable status in December 1981. In January 1982 started providing a transport service for the elderly and disabled, principally within Exeter and district. We have achieved this ever since and are highly regarded within the local community for the quality of service we provide to our clients. Without our volunteers, this charity could not operate. In the forty-one years of operation, due to the regard with which we are held in the community, we have been able to attract and retain a dedicated group of volunteers in the various roles of drivers, administration, office staff and trustees. March **2012** **TAR** 3 Section D Achievements and performance **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** The Exeter Disability Transport Service has been established now for forty-one years during which time it has become an essential service for many disabled and / or elderly people in the local community providing specialised, individual or groups, transport without which many would remain housebound, or at the very least experiencing extreme difficulty in accessing hospital appointments, shopping trips or social events. A simple phone call is all it takes. We have been able to respond to 99% of all requests for transport. This, much, valued relationship between our volunteers and our clients is one of the things which makes us determined to keep this service going. Due to the reduced Hospital Transport Service in our area we are increasingly being requested to provide transport for clients with special needs to attend hospital appointments, often requiring very early and/or late journeys but our volunteer drivers will always accommodate these requests. We are still able to maintain a 365 day’s service. Years 2020 and 2021 were very difficult for Freedom Wheels trying to maintain this service. This year has seen an increase in demand for our service confirming that we are still very much required in our local community. This year we Transported approximately 6500 passengers safely and efficiently. We finished the year with a surplus. We still appreciate the dedication and hard work of our volunteers. We receive no grant – aid from any public or statutory body. We do, however, make appeals to other grant-giving trusts etc. These, together, with a few bequests and gifts from grateful users and relatives of our clients make up the bulk of our income. It is my responsibility to state. on the basis of procedures specified in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under section 4317llbl of the Act whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of Independent Examiner's report My examination wa5 carried out in accordance with the General Direction5 given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the financial statements presented with those records. It a150 includes consideration of any unusual items or di5closure5 in the financial ststements, and seeking explanations from you as Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the financial ststernents.
