Milton Mountaineers Annual report 2025 We’ve had three holidays this year, the first being on the Isle of Wight, staying at the Holiday Fellowship (HF) house at Freshwater Bay from the 1[st] till the 8[th] of March at a discounted price of about half the usual rate arranged by David Grimshaw. Although the intention had been to circumnavigate the island, this proved not to be possible because of erosion of the coastal path in places, but 18 of us, 7 visually impaired people (VIPs) and 11 sighted guides (SGs) and helpers, enjoyed a week of walking nevertheless. In May Phillip Cowen organised his first annual weekend from the 16[th] toll the 19[th] at the HF house just outside Brecon. Phillip had reserved almost all the rooms for 36 of us, 14 VIPs, 17 SGs and 5 support/social members. Two groups climbed Pen-Y-Fan, the highest of the Brecon Beacons being ably led and supported by the local organisation Friends of the Brecon Beacons. We also enjoyed a walk to visit a waterfall and cave. David Grimshaw organised another almost half price week holiday at the HF house in Church Stretton in Shropshire from the 24[th] till the 31[st] of October. 10 VIPs and 16 SGs took part includingseveral new recruits. Two walks were planned each day mainly based around Church Stretton and the Long Mynd. Each year the trustees have to report Milton Mountaineers’ financial position to the Chairty Commission. At the end of the charity’s year November 1[st] 2024 / October 31[st] 2025 the current bank account balance was £503.80. The bank statement for the MM deposit account issued the 10[th] of October gives the balance on the 9th of October as £1724.93, and the latest HF statement of shares where we have invested £3000 and the interest rate is currently 2.7% stands at £3,135.37. May I remind you that Milton Mountaineers is also an affiliated group member of the Ramblers Association, which means that we have public liability insurance through the organisation and our members are entitled to take part in local Ramblers groups. The Ramblers Association has an “Open the way” strategy to widen participation for a diverse range of people including blind or partially sighted people. Amar Latif, who is blind and runs his own business Traveleyes, is president of the Ramblers Association and Travelyes is now affiliated with HF Holidays. Remember that if you book your own holidays with Ramble Worldwide (formerly Ramblers Worldwide Holidays), which is separate from the Ramblers Association, you can nominate Milton Mountaineers to receive loyalty points and therefore a donation from their Walking Partnership Scheme. I’m very grateful for the work by David Grimshaw and Phillip Cowen, who have organised the holidays this year. Whilst I am still happy to co-ordinate the work of the charity an to organise some of the holidays, I recognise that a time will come when I may not wish to continue or my not be able to do so. The trustees have for some time discussed succession arrangements for the organisation of Milton Mountaineers and Phillip Cowen, will take on the role as the charity contact after organising the “traditional” annual trip next year in Coniston in the Lake District from May the 8[th] til the 11[th] . I have booked a holiday for a group of 18 members in Austria from the 27[th] of June till the 11[th] of July, 8 of whom are staying on for the second week, and David Grimshaw is organising a holiday on the Isle of Man from September the 1[st] till the 8[th] .
