## **Annual Report for the Financial Year Ended 31/08/25**

## **1.Constitution**

West London Sinfonia (“the Orchestra”) was formed in 1970 and is a Registered Charity (No. 283044).

The Constitution of the Orchestra defines it as a society whose objective is “to advance the education of the public in the arts and sciences of music and drama by the presentation of concerts and by other ways as “West London Sinfonia shall think fit”.

Management is by a committee of not more than ten people, who shall be the Trustees of the charity.

In the event of winding up or dissolution, any remaining assets are to be transferred to a similar organisation.

## **2. Principal address**

## **3. Trustees**

Trustees during the year ended 31[st] August 2025 have been:

Vivien Karam Chair Andrew Keck Secretary Bharat Parmar Treasurer David Bramley Librarian Karen Squire Publicity/Making Music Representative Richard Norris Committee Member Justyn Waterman Committee Member

## **4. Main Achievements**

We have always tried on a regular basis to give members of the orchestra the opportunity to play concertos or to play a piece featuring a particular section of the orchestra. This year we had our horn section give a superb rendition of Schumann’s Konzertstuck for 4 horns – a piece not often performed.

We included works by female composers – Cecilia McDowall and Nancy Van de Vate. We have previously commissioned Cecilia to write a composition for us and we have on several occasions performed her works. Nancy Van de Vate was the mother of one of our viola players and after her recent death it was agreed that it would be a fitting tribute to her to perform one of her pieces.

Included in our repertoire were various challenging orchestral works – including Bruckner’s Symphony no. 7 and Britten’s Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes and alongside this were such well known pieces as Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony.

2

Audiences showed a definite improvement on the previous season and the trajectory continues to rise.

## **5. Financial Position**

We finished the year with a surplus of £3936.42 – significantly higher than that of the previous season.

We have replenished some of the money used from our reserves for our 50[th] Anniversary Celebration and these are now £16,900. We shall be, however, be in a position to invest some more money by the end of the current financial year.

It is a fundamental principle that no member receives remuneration for playing in the orchestra, although some members have been reimbursed for expenses incurred on behalf of the orchestra. In addition, some administration costs have been borne by members of the Committee.

In preparing financial statements giving a true and fair view, the Trustees should follow best practice and:
