MERLEY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

TREASURER’S REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31[ST] MARCH 2023

This is the Treasurer’s Report for the Merley Community Association’s financial year that ended on 31[st] March 2023. The Income & Expenditure Account and the Balance Sheet for the Association’s financial year have been verified and signed by the Association’s accountant.

For the Association, the 2022/2023 financial year saw, as for most other organisations, a return to normality and pre-covid levels of activity.

I can report that the accounts for the last financial year show a net deficit for the year of £36,533 compared to the net profit of £15,687 for the previous financial year (which was exceptional due to the Government covid payment).

As usual, I will summarise the main items in the accounts that are resulting in the figures being reported here.

Total Income for the year was £38,107, down 13.7% from last financial year’s £44,150. The main contributor to the reduction was that obviously there was no Government covid related grant this year, (£16,000 was received last year).

Off-setting that, as organisations returned to using the hall full time, significant rental increases from the Debi Day Care Before and After School Club, Footlights Dance, Funky Line Dancing, Martial Arts and Wimborne Musical Society, with U3A Activities returning to their high pre-covid levels. Almost all other groups, hiring rooms and halls less frequently, returned to their previous, pre-covid levels.

And given the return to some normality after the effects of covid, and the opportunity to revamp areas of the Community Centre, Total Expenditure during the year increased by 161.3%, to £74,381 in the year compared to £28,467 for the previous year.

The main increases in the various Expenditure categories were £3,272 for maintenance and repairs to the Centre’s roofing, £5,972 for the installation of new suspended ceilings in both lounge rooms including replacement cost efficient LED lighting, £22,692 to revamp the ladies toilets, £3,677 for various carpentry services including replacing interior doors, £1,679 to install a new CCTV system, £2,450 maintenance decorating services and £3,842 on 12 tables and 40 stacking chairs for use by hirers.

The Annual Report and Financial Statements as prepared and signed by the Accountants, Birkett & Co., contain relevant notes and are available to view if anyone would like to see them. They will be lodged with the Charities Commission as required.

As a result of all that I have reported here in respect of the accounts, the Association’s Assets in the bank account, which were £115,043 on 31st March 2022, were still a healthy total of £78,396 on 31st March 2023.

This Treasurers Report confirms the continuing stable financial status of the Merley Community Association, which continues to support and benefit the Merley community.

Martin Bodimeade, Treasurer 15[th] May 2023
