ANNUAL REPORT AND ACCOUNTS
INTRODUCTION
The Mayor of Royal Greenwich Appeal Fund was set up by a Trust Deed on 18[th] May 1981 and aims to further such exclusive charitable objects as the Mayor may from time to time in writing appoint.
In 2024-2025, at the beginning of the Mayoral year, May 2024, the Mayor of Royal Greenwich, Councillor Jit Ranabhat, chose to support Commonwealth and Gurkha Garden Project and Bowel Cancer UK.
ACTIVITIES DURING 2024-2025
A programme of fundraising activities was organized by the Mayor’s Office. The programme was approved by the Mayor, Councillor Jit Ranabhat.
There was a wide range of activities, such as The Big Half Marathon, London Marathon, Golf Day, Coffee Morning, Business Awards, Carol Concert, and Charity Dinner
Also, there were donations made both directly to the Mayor’s Office or by Just Giving.
OUTCOME OF FUNDRAISING
The total raised was £44,182.19.
Councillor Ranabhat would like to discuss how the monies raised should be shared between the two causes at the Trustees meeting.
COMMONWEALTH AND GURKHA GARDEN PROJECT
£ 30,182.19
This is being organized and based at the St George’s Garrison Church Trust in Woolwich, SE18.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich has many communities with commonwealth connections, including those from West Africa, the Caribbean, South Asia and our substantial Gurkha Community.
The Trust are connecting with these links to bring the project fruition.
The garden will be on the land to the north of the church, Juliet Sargeant is a celebrated British Garden designer of British/Tanzanian parentage bringing her skills and experience to the project.
Her design concept is based on the “Fault Lines” of conflict and reconciliation with sympathetic planting of glasses, flower and shrubs, enhanced by artwork and artefacts drawn from the constituent peoples of the commonwealth & Nepal.
BOWEL CANCER UK
£ 14,000.
Bowel Cancer UK is the UK’s leading Bowel Cancer charity. They are determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by Bowel Cancer. Their vision is a future where nobody dies of the disease.

Provide expert information and support to patients and their families

Campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care

Support and fund research to help people dying of bowel cancer

Educate the public and professionals about the disease
Bringing people together – patients, families and friend, doctors and nurses, scientists and researchers, politicians and campaigners and everyone fundraising for us to create a future where nobody dies of the disease.
CURRENT POSITION
The figures presented in the Audited Accounts for the Mayor’s Charity Appeal 2024/2025 are for the period 1[st] June 2024 – 31[st] May 2025. Transactions occurring after this have been included in that Mayoral year’s accounts and noted in the cash book as being received after 31[st] May 2025.
As at 17[th] June 2025, the bank accounts show a total balance of £44,182.19 to donate to the The Commonwealth and Gurkha Garden Project, and Bowel Cancer UK.
NAME OF TRUSTEES
The name of all the Charity Trustees on 10[th] February, 2026, when the Annual Report was approved are as follows;-

The Chief Executive of Royal Greenwich, Debbie Warren (ex-officio)
Past Mayors Cllr Jit Ranabhat, Cllr Leo Fletcher, Mick Hayes and Janet Gillman are the Nominative Trustees appointed by the Mayor to serve for one year.
ACCOUNTS
The Annual Accounts for 2024-2025 (1[st] June 2024 to 31[st] May 2025) have been audited and have been found to give a true and fair view of the Mayor’s Charity Funds as at 31[st] May, 2025 and of its income and expenditure for the year.
DONATIONS
The Mayor’s Charity received £44,182.19 during the 2024-2025 Mayoral year.
PAYMENTS
No payments were paid out during 2024-2025 (1[st] June 2023 to 31[st] May 2024).
The accounts were audited in November 2025 by Audit Service, Bromley Council.

Sample testing of receipts from source through to bank statement and accounts to ensure that income has been processed accurately and intact

Testing of expenditure including payments made to the 2023/24 charities.
