THE TRUSTEE'S REPORT REPORT (INCLUDING DIRECTORS' REPORT)

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2021

The Trustees present their annual report and financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2021.

Objectives and activities

The charity's object ives an d its principal activity is to make charitable contributions for the relief of poverty, sickness and the advancement of education. It particularly supports ' The Institute for the Advancement of Education in Jaffa ' , a registered charity in the Stat e of Israel. The charity is aware that, due to its endeavo u rs, various individuals and charities have sent monies directly to the Institute without the monies being sent via The British Friends of the Jaffa Institute.

The charity is organised so that the Trustees meet regularly to manage its affairs . There is one full time administrator, who both manages the day to day administration of the charity and assists in organising fund raising activities.

The T rustees confirm their compliance with the duty to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission when reviewing the charity's aims and objectives and in planning future activities.

The Trustees have paid due regard to guidance issued by the Charity Commission in deciding what activities the Company should undertake.

Achievements and performance

During the year the charity has continued its philanthropic activities and maintained its support for engaging in the advancement of education in Israel. The charit y's income is derived from donations received from individuals and trusts. The reserves remain available to further those purposes compatible with the aims and objectives of the charity. The T rustees expe ct such demands to increase in future years. The financial results of the company are fully reflected in the attached financial statements together with the notes thereon.

During the year under review donations raised totaled £275,469 (2020 - £316,375).

Donations made during the year total l ed £239,083 (2020 - £271,513).

Financial review

Principal funding sources

The charit y' s income is derived from donations received from individuals and trusts. In addition, some fundraising is done via advertising.

Reserves policy

It is the policy of the charity to maintain unrestricted funds, which are the free reserves of the charity , at a level which equates to approximately six months unrestricted expenditure. This provides sufficient funds to cover management and administration and support costs and to respond to emergency applications for grants which arise from time to time. Unrestricted funds were maintained at least at this level through out the period. The T rustees are satisfied that the present balance of distributable reserves is sufficient to support anticipated expenditure.

Financial position

The financial position of the charity is satisfactory.

The charity's statement of Financial A ctivities show a net surplus generated in the period of £10,773 (2020 - £13,832) and total reserves of £37,6 30 (2020 - £26,85 7 ).

1.3 Income

Cash donations are recognised on receipt. Other donations are recognised once the Company has been notified of the donation, unless performance conditions require deferral of the amount. Income tax recoverable in relation to donations received under Gift Aid or deeds of covenant is recognised at the time of the donation.

Legacies are recognised on receipt or otherwise if the Company has been notified of an impending distribution, the amount is known, and receipt is expected. If the amount is not known, the legacy is treated as a contingent asset.

Shared costs which contribute to more than one activity and support costs which are not attributable to a single activity are apportioned between those activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. Central staff costs are allocated on the basis of time spent, and depreciation charges are allocated on the portion of the asset’s use.

At each reporting end date, the Company reviews the carrying amounts of its tangible assets to determine whether there is any indication that those assets have suffered an impairment loss.
