CHAIRMAN'S RepoRT FOR THE YEAR TO 31ST JULY 2024
THE FRIENDS OF ST MARYS is a Registered Charity No 281982 and is formally conslituled by D88d of
TrLtsl dated 18th June 1979, although the Frignds. as an organlsatlon was founded al a meeting in Ealing

The Charty Twstees during tho year lo 31st July 2024 were.. IAr Andrew Goodhart Ichaimianl, Dr Hugh
Mather, Rev Valerie AiU(en, Mr John Newbwgin and Mi John Biggs (Clerk).
Objectlves and Organls8tlon
The object of the Charity is lo preserve this Grad8 l Listed Church "as a building of historic and archttectural
interesf and we are pemitted, under the redundancy measures lo arrange. organise, and conduct such
eharftsble aclmlies {whether or not of a religious nature) at the said church as is 8ulhorised by the 99 y8ar
lease, granted on 19th June 1979 by the London Dioc8san Fund on behalf of the Church Commissioners at
nominal rent of £250p.8.' This rental is however waved annually, provid8d that the tost of all repairs and
maintenance exceeds this sum, which has been the case sinte the commencement of the lease 44 ye8rs
ago. There has never been a demand for rent and the 'renl revie￿ in June 2009 was not exercised. A few
years ago. representslives of the London Diocesan Committee visited this and other redundant churches in
Mlddlesex and were delighted with the condition of th8 church and the improvod faGilities that the Friends
hav8 provlded, and continue to provide over the years.
Chalrman's Report by Andrew Goodhart
The Chairnian's report for th8 Trustees whose purpose, under the Deed of Trust, is lo have the ultimate
responsibility for the use and maintenance of the church and churchyard in accordance with the terms of the
188se. The Charity Commissioners have re￿ntlY conflmied that the Trust Deed is the official over-riding
document which describes the r8spon&bilili8s of tha Trustees in resp8Ct of the church and the churchyard.
Including burial a￿an9aMantS.
The Trustees have Mted 8pprecialion all the hard work that h88 been carried out during the year, both
ins*Je and OLftslde the church building, by the excellent team of voluntee￿.11 58 good to have Hlrgh Mather
ICh8irm8n of the Executs've Committee} as 8 Trustee, as he is the prime mover of everything connected wth
the day-tO•day running of St Mavs Perivale. The Executive Chairman's Report therefore gives a more
detailed report of the aclivibes for the year. The continuance of concerts is particulady important lo the life of
Sl Ma￿S Porivalo, as are the benefits to the musiaans who are very keen to play. A major rtem during tho
year has been the continuous live-streaming of the concerts on a worfdwmle basis. and we continue 10
upgrade the recording and sound equipment, and are benefitting from the new fibrè link for our
transmissions, now wilhoul problems and the addition of new cameras, all now High Definition.
The church is being kept in fine condition and, wth forward planning, we are able to ￿Ver all foreseeable
eventualities. The church lower has had rotten timbers replaced as well as repairs to the kitchen roof. and
the notice board has been r8furbishedand has lights. The team of gardeners continue to keep the

Introductlon: This has been ar￿ther successful y8ar. After the iod¢downs in 2020 and 2021, we reopened
again lo a liv8 audience in September 2021. Sinc8 then we have adopted a 'hybrid' concert model, setmng
both our small aud￿nce in thè church and 8 much larger number of Part￿1P8nts watching our broadcasts
online. This has proved to be very successful and bodes well for the future. We have become, in effect. a
much-respecled broadcasting v8nu8 for svperb solo and chamber music concerts, enjoyed by hundreds of
dassical muslc lovefs throughout the UK and abroad. This astonishing d8V8lopmenl has been based on the
remark8ble wdeo sy3tem Installed by Simon Shute and his colleagues, to whom we owe 8 huge debt of
gratitude.
Broadcast con￿rts. From S8pl8mber 2023 10 July 2024 we broadcast 120 streamed concerts, wfth 65
piano reutsls.A hkJhlight was aour major piano festival, run jointty with tha K8yboard Charitable Trust
fealLsring 10 exceptional young pianlsts on September 30th and October 1st. We paid about £35,000 to
musiciar>s. All this has been achieved without any grant or extemal support. and run entirely by our team of
unpaid volunle8rs. I would like lo pay special tribute lo our technical team who m8de 811 this possible, led by
Simon Shu18, and comprising George Auckland. Andrew Whadcoal, Rob Jenkins, Tnjus Bos. Peter
Sandison and Roger Nellisl. l am also very gr8teftJl to Roger Nellist for helping me lo run the organiz81ion,
and lo Andrew Goodhart, Chaimian of the Trustrees for haThJling the donat￿n$ 8nd Gift Aid. The concerts
have received about 100,000 views during the year, in around 70 Countries around the wortd. and were
attended by an average of 40 people In the church, wth attendancos varying frorn 20 to 90.
'Lockdown Stsrf Award: We were given thig prestsgious award by the Critics. Cirde, in recognibon of our
156 concerts held in an empty church during the l¢xkOown. We are proud of this national recognition of our
activities. Herg is Iheir citstion '.
