ThetrusteeswhoarealsodirectorsofthecharityforthepurposesoftheCompaniesAct2006,presenttheirreportwiththe financial
statementsofthecharityfortheyearended30June2022.ThetrusteeshaveadoptedtheprovisionsofAccountingandReporting by
Charities:StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordancewiththe Financial
Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
CHANGE OF NAME
The charity changed its Name from "Avon Riding Centre for the Disabled" to "The Avon Centre" on 28th June 2021.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The charitableobjectsforwhichThe AvonCentreis establishedare for"Toadvancethe education,health,wellbeingand rehabilitation
ofthegeneralpublic,inparticularpeoplewithphysical,mentalandemotionaldisabilitiesthroughtheprovisionofhorserelated and
nature programmes for the community of bristol and the surrounding area."
Significant activities
TheCharityprovidesequinebasedtherapeuticandsportactivitiesforpeoplewithanyformofdisabilityinoneoftheUK's largest
purposebuildequestriancentres.ThecentreislocatedinNorthBristolsurroundedbycirca100acresoffieldsandwoodland,in a
setting that aims to promote individual development, skills and confidence in a safe, friendly and attractive environment.
Public benefit
The trustees have due regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit when developing activities.
Thetrusteesbelievethatthecentre,itsfacilitiesandtheestateuponwhichitoperatesaremaintainedinawaythatencourages and
assistsindividualsinafunctionalandengagingsetting,withhorsesthatarecarefullychosenandtrainedtosupporttheneedsof the
charity's beneficiaries.
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Activities and Performance
The financialyear ended 30th June 2022 was another difficultyear for the Charity.Whilst Covid lockdownsand restrictionswere ending,
the financialand operationaleffectsof the pandemicwere considerable.Staffinglevels had been reduced to a minimumand the equine
herd, by necessity, had to be depleted. The consequence was reduced capacity to benefit service users and generate income.
TheCharityhasfurtherprogresseditsnon-riddenactivities,whichhasevengreaterpotentialtoexpand.Thisdiversification relieves
pressure on the ridden herd and facilitates therapeutic benefits to a wider community.
Thenatureandpurposeofsessionscanvarydependingonindividualcircumstances;fromencouragingsomeonewithAutism and
sensoryissuesto touchand brush a pony,throughto using the poniesreactionsto help someonewithextremeanxietyto monitor and
controltheirlevelsofanxietyandemotionalresponses."Walkandtalk"activitiesarealsoavailableinthewoodlandwith experienced
staff. Touching and brushing ponies etc can also help the elderly and those suffering from dementia.
Partnerships
The Charityis continuingto developstrategicpartnershipswith third partiesto providean even more diverseequine related and nature
basedofferingtothelocalcommunityinlinewiththevisionfortheCentre.Thisalreadyincludeshostingschoolsandother charities
(such as those supporting neurodiversity groups) for activities on-site.
Sustainedeffortstowelcomemorecharitiesandorganisationson-sitearenowstartingtocometofruition(beyondtheyearto June
2022),forexamplewithdisability/employmentsupportandassistancedogcharities.Leadingequineorganisations,withwhom the
Charity is affiliated, hold regional training sessions at the Centre.
A new Forest Schoolarea has been prepared,and this also allowsfor a varietyof other activitiessuch as teachingsessionsand wellbeing
groups, in a natural, therapeutic environment.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Fundraising
In October2021 the charitytookon a contractorfundraiserwhichhas seen some successfulresultspost year end with restricted funds.
This arrangement continues, which along with in-house and volunteer fundraising, supports the charity financially.
The charityalso undertooka crowdfundingcampaignwhichraised approximately£80,000of unrestrictedincomefor the Charity. These
funds have provided financial stability for the Charity to carefully plan and invest in its core operations.
AnotherkeyincomestreamfortheCharityisitstradingsubsidiary,BristolHorseRiding(BHR),whichprovidesequinerelated services
includingriding lessons,workingliveryand schooling.This activitywas also significantlyimpactedby Covidand the lockdowns, although
someridingwasabletoresumebetweenlockdowns.Post-Covid,BHR'sactivitylevelhasincreased,whichbenefitsthecharity both
financially and in operational terms.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position
Atthebalancesheetdate,thecharityheld£578,829(2021-£582,587)tangiblefixedassets,mainlyrelatingtothelandand buildings
(£407,401)andhorses(£16,722).Theremainingtangiblefixedassetsincludetheequipmentnecessarytorun thecharity,maintain the
property and provide lessons.
The charity held cash of £135,233 (2021 - £60,280) with net current assets of £119,961 (2021 - £53,611)
Reserves policy
The Charityhas a policyto retain reservesto the level requiredto providesufficientfunds to coverthe operatingcostsof the centre for
a periodofatleastsixmonths.Thetrusteesarecontinuallymonitoringthepositionandwaysofdevelopingadditionalincome streams
to rebuild its reserves position.
Thetotalvalueofreservesatthebalancesheetdateis£568,177(2021-£550,544).Ofthistotal,£39,165(2021-£nil)isheld as
restricted funds.
FUTURE PLANS
Thecharityis followinga carefullyconsideredplan,to ensurefinancialsustainability,and to be ofmaximumbenefitto its userand the
wider community. This includes:
1. Addingto the equineriddenherd so that riddenRDA lessonscan be increasedand offeredto moreriders.Expandingthe rider group
is a gradual process, as horses and lessons must be carefully matched to a rider's needs.
2.Addingtotheequinenon-riddenherd,toincreaseactivitiesthatdonotinvolveriding,benefittingidentifiedgroupswho would
benefit, including school and charity groups as well as individuals.
3. Graduallydevelopinga range of activitieson-site that support our target groups as well as the wider community.This could be further
riddenornon-riddenactivities,horsesimulatorsessions,facilityhire,competitions,forestschoolorseasonalevents.These work
symbiotically with our activities in points 1 and 2, and the Centre relies on these to be sustainable.
4.Developingtheuseofoursiteforthebestuseofthoseinneed,andthecommunity.Thisisalong-termplan,butthisis already
progressing,withpartnergroupsand charitieshavinggreaterinvolvement.Longertermplansaim to utilisethe site to its full potential.
This requires thorough planning, as each group has specific needs, that must work well together.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The Avon Centre is a companylimitedby guaranteeas definedby the CompaniesAct 2006,incorporatedon 12 December1980 and is a
registeredcharity(no.281648).ThecompanywasestablishedunderaMemorandumofAssociationandisgovernedbyitsarticles of
Association as amended on 15 November 1982, 25 July 2005 and 08 June 2022.
Membership
The charityis a member group of the Riding for the DisabledAssociation(RDA),which is a UK based charityfocussedon providing horse
ridingandcarriagedrivinglessonstopeoplewithbothdevelopmentalandphysicaldisabilities.TheRDAhasabout500 independent
groups and serves over 26,500 adults and children each year.

Appointment of new trustees
Thetrustees,whoaredirectorsforthepurposesofcompanylawandtrusteesforthepurposesofcharitylaw,whoservedduring the
year and up to the date of this report are set out on page 1.
TheBoardrecruitstrusteesas andwhena clearneedhasbeenidentified.Potentialtrusteesareidentifiedandinterviewedby trustees
andotherselectedpersonsasappropriatetoassessthesuitabilitytoassistintheeffectiveguidanceandmanagementofthe charity.
Whenconsideringtheappointmentofanynewtrustee,theBoardconsiderstheexperienceandcontributionwhichtheindividual may
bring to benefit the charity.
Organisation
Thetrusteeboardcomprises3independenttrusteeswhomeetonaregularbasis.ACentreManagerisappointedbythetrustees to
manage the day-to-day operations of the charity. The Centre Manager also attends trustees meetings as appropriate.
SincetheUKgovernmentimposedlockdowninMarch2020haseased,bothyardandofficestaffhasincreasedandactivities have
diversified.Duringtheyear,theremainingteamhavecontinuedtobesupportedbydedicatedvolunteersandthetrusteeswill review
the organisation structure to ensure that it has sufficient staff to support its existing and future operations.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of The Avon Centre Limited ('the Company')
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 30 June 2022.
Responsibilities and basis of report
Asthecharity'strusteesoftheCompany(andalsoitsdirectorsforthepurposesofcompanylaw)youareresponsiblefor the
preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').
Havingsatisfiedmyselfthat the accountsof the Companyare not requiredto be auditedunder Part16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible
forindependentexamination,Ireportinrespectofmyexaminationofyourcharity'saccountsascarriedoutunderSection145of the
CharitiesAct2011('the2011Act').IncarryingoutmyexaminationIhavefollowedtheDirectionsgivenbytheCharity Commission
under Section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.
Independent examiner's statement
Sinceyourcharity'sgrossincomeexceeded£250,000yourexaminermustbeamemberofalistedbody.IcanconfirmthatI am
qualified to undertake the examination because I am a registered member of FCCA which is one of the listed bodies.
I havecompletedmy examination.I confirmthatno mattershavecometo my attentionin connectionwiththe examinationgiving me
cause to believe:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of the 2006 Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or
4. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)).

Basis of preparing the financial statements

applicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordancewiththeFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUK and
RepublicofIreland(FRS102)(effective1January2019)',FinancialReportingStandard102'TheFinancialReporting Standard
applicablein the UK and Republicof Ireland'and the CompaniesAct 2006.The financialstatementshave been prepared under
the historical cost convention, with the exception of investments which are included at market value.
Preparation of consolidated financial statements
ThefinancialstatementscontaininformationaboutTheAvonCentreLimitedasanindividualcompanyanddonot contain
consolidatedfinancialinformationas the parentof a group.The charityis exemptunder Section399(2A)of the Companies Act
2006 from the requirements to prepare consolidated financial statements.
Income
All income is recognisedin the Statementof FinancialActivitiesonce the charityhas entitlementto the funds, it is probable that
the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
Expenditure
Liabilitiesarerecognisedasexpenditureassoonasthereisalegalorconstructiveobligationcommittingthecharityto that
expenditure,it is probablethat a transferof economicbenefitswill be requiredin settlementand the amountof the obligation
canbemeasuredreliably.Expenditureisaccountedforonanaccrualsbasisandhasbeenclassifiedunderheadings that

Once a fixed asset has been purchased,or the funds utilised (and assuming there is no restrictionupon the use of the asset), the
funds are transferred to the appropriate fund.
Designatedfundsareunrestrictedandrelatetothetotalfixedassetsat thecurrentnetbookvalueandtheremaining balance
of the land loan. Repayments to the loan, and purchases of assets are transferred against this balance.
The prior year fund categories have been aggregated inline with the restriction rather than the donor.
The trustees have recognisedthat a number of restrictedfunds should have been consumedthrough standard expenditure over
recent periods, and as such have transferred the funds against the unrestricted fund where the expenditure was recognised..
