On behalf of the elected executive committee, I extend my gratitude to all members for entrusting both myself and the Executive Committee (EC) with the responsibility of overseeing the management of the Charity throughout 2022. Following the approval of the EC for 2021 during the last Annual General Meeting (AGM), our term continued into the current year. The initial months of 2022 were marked by the ongoing challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, leading to limitations on our activities and services during this period. This year also brought a significant loss with the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In recognition of this global moment of mourning, we respectfully chose to cancel our scheduled Onam and Gurujayanthi celebrations for 2022. Furthermore, 2022 marked another sorrowful departure with the passing of Mr. P Jayadevan, who diligently served as a caretaker of the mission for over a decade. May their souls find eternal peace. Despite these challenges, we managed to initiate a phased resumption of all our services over the course of the year. Our endeavours included commemorating Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, hosting a special spring festival, and International Women’s Day. Notably, we successfully reintroduced the Elder’s Day Centre, collaborating with the Newham council to offer exercise sessions. Furthermore, our Education Centre was reinstated, reinvigorating our commitment to provide subsidised supplementary education. One of the standout achievements of the year was the collaborative project we undertook in partnership with the Newham council and the Green Street Community Neighbourhood. This project aimed to establish a wildflower area within Priory Park, highlighting our dedication to environmental enhancement. Additionally, we were honoured to welcome Swami Tyageeswaran to the UK. His presence enriched our centres with special sessions that inspired and uplifted. Another distinguished guest, Ms. Nancy Yielding, graced us with her presence during the celebrations of the Platinum Jubilee. To provide insight into the subcommittee activities throughout the year, a brief overview is provided below: :@SNGMUK Annual Report & Accounts 2022 www.sngm.org 2 **Sree Narayana Guru Mission of the UK Registered Charity No. 281388 16 Barking Road, London E6 3BP** Gurudharma – The monthly pooja at the East Ham centre continued, led by Mr. Suresh Kumar Gangadharan, Mr. Arun Peethambaran, and Mr. Giridharan Vidhyadharan. While the Gurujayanthi celebrations unfortunately had to be cancelled, we accomplished a significant achievement by facilitating the visit of Swami Tyageeswaran to the UK, a success attributed to the dedication of some key members within the Gurudhrama team. Gratitude is extended to Mr. Sanal Madhavan and his family, who graciously offered accommodation to Swami Tyageeswaran during his stay in the UK. Additionally, a special session conducted by Ms. Nancy Yielding proved to be exceptionally engaging and well-received. We thank all the sponsors of the Sunday pooja, monthly pooja and other special pooja events in Eastham, for their long-standing contribution and support. In February 2022, the Croydon Centre Pooja was reinstated. An acknowledgment is extended to Mr. Shaji Vasudevan and his family for their selfless commitment to conducting daily and special poojas, along with their generous donation of fresh flowers and garlands. Mr. Vasudevan's unwavering dedication to the Croydon Centre's activities continues to be an invaluable contribution, and we are truly fortunate to have such a devoted member among us. The Southall Centre Pooja resumed in October 2022, and our appreciation goes to Mr. Manilal Sivanandan and other members and devotees in Southall for their support to our EC members in Southall. We also thank Mrs Reena Raghavan and Mrs Shoba Ashok for their support with prayer and talk during the pooja. Membership- Through 2022, the committee remained resolute in its efforts to engage with our members, including a focused initiative to address longstanding membership arrears. While the results may not have been fully achieved, this endeavour represents a significant stride forward, aligning with our commitment to bolster the stability and resilience of our organization. I would like to thank Mr Vijayan Pattathil, who joined the EC in an ex-officio capacity to support with the membership activities. Social & Arts – We organised a series of engaging events, including the inaugural Spring Festival, which garnered an enthusiastic response. The overwhelming support from our esteemed members and well-wishers truly served as a humbling reminder of the strength of our community bonds. Our festivities extended to the commemoration of the Platinum Jubilee (Jubilee Utsav), made possible through collaboration with the Newham council. We express our sincere gratitude to the local councillors for their invaluable assistance in bringing this celebration to fruition. Notably, Mrs. Anu Lanish made a significant contribution to the event by donating her painting, a portrait of the late Queen, for which our gratitude knows no bounds. :@SNGMUK Annual Report & Accounts 2022 www.sngm.org 3 **Sree Narayana Guru Mission of the UK Registered Charity No. 281388 16 Barking Road, London E6 3BP** We successfully arranged a spring festive event for the first time, which received positive feedback from our members and supporters. We would like to extend our gratitude to Mrs. Shali Girilal for her invaluable assistance in coordinating this event. We would like to express our gratitude to Mrs. Leena Salim for her unconditional assistance in organizing the children’s Christmas party at the East Ham centre. Our appreciation also goes out to Shaji Vasudevan, Bini Sajeev, and Renuka Kishorkumar for their invaluable contributions to the Christmas celebrations in Croydon in supporting, supporting the EC members in Croydon. Special recognition is due to Mr. Sherin Satyaseelan (IMAGE digital media) for capturing some of our moments on video. We also extend our thanks to Mr. Vinay Sajeer, Mr. Damodaran Prakash, and Mr. Satheesh Kumar for their invaluable contributions in sound and lighting, as well as other backstage technical support essential to the success of the events. Our appreciation is extended to every performer and artist whose dedication contributed to the resounding success of these events. Your talents illuminated our gatherings and played an integral role in making them truly memorable. In addition, we orchestrated a successful day trip to Brighton Beach in July 2022. Furthermore, a 6-day trip to the Republic of Ireland, initially slated for 2021 but postponed due to Covid, was effectively arranged, providing participants with a remarkable experience that had been eagerly awaited. We would like to thank Mr Girilal Sukumaran who managed the coordination of these trips Building & Maintenance – The refurbishment of our Croydon centre was successfully completed by January, and the centre was officially reopened for monthly pooja ceremonies starting in February 2022. The building now boasts enhanced facilities, including a new WC and kitchen area, upgraded flooring with underfloor heating, a modern suspended ceiling with integrated lighting, and new seating arrangements. Our deep gratitude goes to Mr. Sabulal Bahuleyan (Thalam Property Services) for his support and for offering the premises at a discounted rental rate for our Croydon centre. Thanks to Mr. Sabulal's generosity, we were also able to install a magnificent Guru statue crafted in Kerala and subsequently shipped to the UK. Additionally, we extend our appreciation to Mr. Prasad, Mr. Suresh Dharmarajan, Mr. Kishorkumar, Mrs. Shaji Suresh, and Mr. Manilal Raman for their relentless dedication in facilitating the safe transport of the statue all the way from Kerala to the UK, and ultimately to Croydon. :@SNGMUK Annual Report & Accounts 2022 www.sngm.org 4 **Sree Narayana Guru Mission of the UK Registered Charity No. 281388 16 Barking Road, London E6 3BP** We would also like to express our gratitude to Mr. Sreekumar (Anand Media) for providing IPTV services with Malayalam channels for both our centres in East Ham and Croydon. Furthermore, advanced CCTV systems have been newly installed at both of our centres. We thank Mr Jose Viswambaran, Mr Sanal Madhavan for their support to us in the installation of these. Editorial - Our gratitude goes out to Mr. Rob Sackett for his valuable assistance in maintaining our website. Although we are currently encountering certain technical obstacles, we are collaborating closely with Rob to find solutions. In the long run, we have a plan to transition to a more advanced platform that will facilitate simpler content management, allowing someone from the Committee to take control. The Mission's Facebook page was consistently updated with information about mission events and other pertinent news. Additionally, we initiated new accounts on Instagram and Twitter under the handle "sngmuk". Finance - The past couple of years have posed considerable challenges due to the absence of revenue-generating services such as supplementary education programs, hall rentals, or other fundraising events. While these services have now resumed, it will take some time to build momentum and generate surplus funds. Despite this situation, we achieved success in obtaining a grant of approximately £19,000 from Newham Council for a project focused on establishing wildflower areas within Priory Park. We extend our appreciation to Mr. Sarasan Viswambaran for his dedication in securing this grant, particularly after navigating a rigorous selection process imposed by the council. Our gratitude also goes to the Council staff and members of the Greenstreet Community neighbourhood for their supportive role. This funding was allocated from the community fund. Furthermore, we introduced a card payment facility, enhancing the flexibility for our benefactors to make donations. Women’s Forum – With the support of Newham Council, we have successfully resumed our exercise sessions at our centre. Additionally, a subset of the women's forum group has continued their daily prayer sessions via Zoom, providing essential support for the physical and mental well-being of our elder members. The Women's Forum also achieved a significant milestone by effectively coordinating the celebrations for International Women's Day in 2022. Regrettably, these initiatives encountered some hurdles in terms of advancement. At present, we are engaged in reassessing the situation and are committed to carrying forward this effort into 2023. Our ongoing focus involves revisiting and refining the Constitution and the framework for governance. ## Obituary It is with a heavy heart and deep regret we announce the sad loss of our beloved members during 2022. Accounting basis.** The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention, modified to include the revaluation of certain fixed assets, and in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (effective January 2015). The statements have also been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) - Accounting and Reporting by Charities SORP 2015 issued in October 2014 ## **2. Land and buildings** The Trustees hold title to the land and buildings used by the SNGM. As required by FRS102, existing buildings and their associated land used for fundraising, administration or accommodation purposes were valued and capitalised on the Balance Sheet at 31 December 2021 (Note 17). Subsequent additions are included initially at cost. ## **3. Depreciation** Capital items costing more than £500 are capitalised as fixed assets. Depreciation is provided on all fixed assets, at rates calculated to write off the cost or valuation, less estimated residual value, of each asset evenly over its expected useful life. - observe the Accounts Direction issued by the members, including the relevant . Reserves** Reserves are analysed under the headings Unrestricted, and Restricted funds **11. Restricted funds** These are funds which have been given to SNGM for specific purposes by donors ## **12. Fixed asset reserve** The Fixed asset reserve absorbs the timing differences arising from the different arrangements for accounting for the consumption of non-current assets and for financing the acquisition, construction or enhancement of those assets for the provision of services. The Account is debited with the cost of acquisition, construction or enhancement as depreciation, impairment losses and amortisations are charged to the Statement of Financial Activities. ## **13. General reserves** The Executive Committee, with the approval of the members may undertake certain activities the proceeds from which, together with donations and funds from other sources, are taken to the General Reserves. These funds may be used at the Executive Committee’s discretion. ## **14. Restricted reserves (earmarked)** This sets out the amounts set aside from the General Fund balances in earmarked reserves restricted to provide financing for future expenditure plans Croydon Building Fund : A reserve created out of donations received from members and other well-wishers to support the purchase of a centre in Croydon for Sree Narayana Guru Mission. Use of this reserve is restricted for the purchase of new centre with the approval of the Executive Committee. Education Services reserve : A reserve has been created for providing educational services and the balance on this reserve is accumulated from previous years. This reserve is restricted to support running education services for the community. Capital Receipts reserve : A reserve has been set aside for any major works for Sree Narayana Guru Mission’s fixed assets mainly accumulated from member’s monthly contributions. Building fund reserve : Reserve is set aside for the use of further expansion to current land & buildings. Disaster Aid reserve : Set aside to support people suffering from natural disasters or other types of emergencies.
