STRUCTURE, GOVERNAIYCE AND MANAGEMENT
The Charity was ¢stablish¢d by a Tn￿t Deed dated l January 1980
Under the Tn￿t Deed the Trustees are tbe Presid¢nL Treasurer and Secretary for the
time being of Yeo Valley Lions Club (the Club). They are ¢lected annually at the
Club's AGM and serve for the year from l July to 30 June.
The Trust Deed establishes that the Club has absolute discretion to determine and
select the b¢neficÉaries of the distribution of the Trust's fi￿dS and this is managed at a
monthly Club meeting, subject to a quonlln being present. where members consider
and vote on SI￿nding pmposals recommended by the club's 'Board of Directors
(Committee). The Tn￿le¢S are present at those meetings and ensure that decisions are
within the scope of the provisions of the Trust Deed.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Th¢ Trust Deed provtdes that the Trust's funds may be used for charitable PUTposes
within the lerritorial area of the Club throughout the United Kingdom and the
Republic of Ireland or elsewhere for the benefit of such charitable bodies, trusts,
associations, institutions or organisations esL2blished for such charitable purposes in
such MaJ￿er as the Club shall detennine and select.
Th¢ main activities undertaken for the public's benefit include:
the provision of 6 flats for the elderly, let at a reasonable rent
the provision of a community minibus. which as well as king available for
use by local clubs and societies is also tegu]arly used foi shopping trips for the
elderly and infinn
the provision and maintenance of a playground for those of any age with
special needs.

In addition the local community knefits from financial support given to local clubs
and societies and support is also givcn to many projects fillther afield, both at a
nattonal and international level. through Lions Clubs International. the worldwide
association to which the Club ￿lOngS.
The Trustees are therefore satisfied that there is wide rdnging public benefit as a result
of the Trust's activities particularly bearing in mind the International Lions motto of
'We Serve..
ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Flats- these continue to provide living accommodation for 6 tenants at a reasonable
rent. They are nMintained io a go(Kl standard and. whilst three became vacant during
the year, they were re-let once appropriate maintenance and renovation had been
completed and all were occupied at the year end
Community Minibus- this provides an invaluable service at no charg¢ to the local
community particularly, but not ¢xclusively, to the more elderly aDd infirni in the
local villages. Regular shopping trips run on three days per week, there are regular
outings for resÈdents from locaI care and residential bomes during the summer
months, transport is provided for the local fo(Kl bank when needed and it is also used
by a number of local societies and associations. including youth groups, to support
their activities.
Playground for the Disabled- this h&s now been in owation for 25 years and
provides a secure and secluded environtnenl where parentslcarerslspecial schools
looking after people with special needs of all ages, although predominantly
youngsteTS. can relax and use the equipment and space provide(L without the
distractions and worries encountered in a public park. The benefits can be gauged by
the fact that in those 25 years in excess of 600 families, s[￿la1 schools, support
groups etc have registered for memkrship and new applications continue to be
received on a regular basis.
The Trust has continued to meet requests for financial SUPFK)rt from numerous local
organisations and thos¢ in need as well &s supporting projects under the auspices of
Lions Clubs International.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
A copy of the examined accounts for the year ended 30 June 2024 is attached.
Unresticted Funds
The principal source of income for this fi￿d is donations made by Yeo Valley Lions
Club which runs a number of well-establish¢d fund raising events during the year.
These totalled £16,(M)0 (2023 £19,000), together with Christm&s Gift Aided donations
of £6,798 {2023 £3.263). The general cost of operating the minibus. our single largest
ongoing commitment, w&8 £5,456 (2023 £5.311) although this was partly offset by
donations of £2,586 (2023 £4,278) received from users of the bus and a community
transp)rt grant of £451 from the District Council.

The costs of maintaining th¢ Special Need Playground were £4,981 (2023 £2.103).

The balance of this Fund is held in a non-inter¢st bearing accounL is readily available,
and is considered adequate for the puT￿se of the Ckwity. The balance includes
£39.51XI which has been earn]arked for the replacement of the community minibus.

ated Funds
This Fund comprises the residential flats. Three flats We￿ vacant at some stage during
the year reflecting in a reduced rental income of £33,084 (2023 £35,145). Incr&ased
maint¢nancc and insurance costs of £42,773 (2023 £4.440) reflected the renovation
and maintenance work undertaken in the three flats whilst they were vacanL as we
continue to maintain the flats to a high standard and und¢rtake a COTnplete
redecoration at each vacancy. There were no rent arrears at 30 June 2024.
We continu¢d to support the operation of a local Dementia Hub and make other
donations relating to services provided for the elderly, including this year, in view of
its importance to the elderly, a payment of £4.174 for engine repairs to the club
minibus, following a breakdown. A donation of £1.850 was also made to Yatton
Village Hall. a r¢gist¢r¢d charity, for in]provements. again a facility important to th¢
elderly in the community.
Due to these items, expenditure exceeded income by £23,964 during the year and cash
balances at the year end stood at £222,688 which sum is readily available.
FufuRE PLANS
Yeo Valley Lions Club continues its regular fund raising events. from which
donations will continue to be made to the Trust for distribution.
Its principal servic¢ activities will continue for the publtc benefit with consideration
likely to be given in due course to th¢ purchase of a replacement minibus, the current
vehicle now being 13 years old.
. Beyond the costs of maintaining the playground and the minibus otheT donations and
grants are only made from available funds and, thcrefore, expenses can be suitably
controlled against the availabl¢ resources.
The flats will continue to be maintained to a high standard and eonsideratTon will
continue to be giv¢n to other suitsble OPFK)rtunities to use monies in the Designated
Fund as they arise, within the wishes express¢(L but not mandated, by the Donor when
bequeathing the properties to the TrnsL
