## **The Shepherd’s Address**

welcome you to this year’s Annual General Meeting of our great parish. I

The Psalmist declares: _“The LORD has done great things for us, and we are glad”_ (Psalm 126:3). Over the past 49 years, God has done great things for us. He has raised up men and women of faith, multiplied our ministry, provided for our needs, and sustained us through seasons of trial and triumph. Today is not only an administrative gathering but also a spiritual milestone. We are standing at the threshold of a sacred season, preparing to enter the 50th year of life in our parish - a Jubilee year, a time for a fresh start! We are here because of His unfailing mercy. Glory be to God in the highest!

St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome has a holy door called the _“Porta Sancta”_ which is only opened during a Holy Year of Jubilee which occurs every 25 years. On Christmas Eve of 2000, Pope John Paul II struck the brick wall with a hammer, opening up the passage. After that year, the wall was re-bricked, and the door won’t be opened again until Christmas Eve 2025! This door symbolises is a symbol of reconciliation with God and a new beginning - the fresh start made available to all of us. We might need a fresh start for many reasons - a bad relationship, fi nancial debt, addiction, trouble with the law, job loss or problems at work. So, we decide to make a fresh start. We move away, change jobs, get involved with new people, we make changes so that we don’t make the same mistakes again.

A fresh start feels good and can make all the di ff erence in the world. As we approach our Jubilee, let us see it not only as a celebration of longevity but also as an invitation to spiritual renewal. Just as the Jubilee brought a reset for God’s people, may this next season be a time of fresh beginnings for our parish. Hebrews 10:23 says, _“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful”_ . I pray that those bound by discouragement or weariness fi nd freedom. Those strained relationships be healed by forgiveness. That any ministry that have grown tired fi nds renewal. I pray that every member discovers new hunger and excitement to serve the Lord with gladness.

We should not forget those who came before us.

Our founding members sowed in tears, laboured with little, and persevered when the path was hard. Many prayed fervently, gave sacri fi cially, and toiled faithfully to lay the foundation of what we now enjoy. We are bene fi ciaries of their vision, courage, and obedience. As Scripture reminds us: _“Others have laboured, and you have entered into their labours”_ (John 4:38). To the current generation, I say: honour their legacy by carrying the baton forward with the same enthusiasm, so that those who come after us will also bene t from our labour.

The Bible encourages us not just to look backwards, but also to look forward. Isaiah 43:1819 says, _“Do not remember the former things... I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?”_ This is a powerful promise of renewal, of a fresh start. As we look forward to 2026 - the 50[th] Anniversary Jubilee of our parish - we are reminded of the spiritual signi fi cance of this sacred year. In Scripture, Jubilee was a year of liberation, restoration, and forgiveness, a year of a fresh start - debts were cancelled, slaves set free, land restored, and even the land itself given rest!

The dictionary de nes “fresh” as something that is newly made or obtained; that retains the original properties without any degradation. On the other hand, “staleness” is de fi ned as: having lost the freshness; lacking originality or spontaneity; impaired in e ffi cacy, or spirit, as from inactivity or boredom; having lost e ff ectiveness or force through lack of activity or action. This is the moment to recommit ourselves to ministry, to generosity, to

unity, and to mission. The baton is now in our hands. I encourage you to step into the future with faith and courage, recognizing that God equips and empowers us all for new endeavours. We must be faithful stewards of what God has entrusted to us.

I thank all members for your nancial contributions, which you have maintained respite the economic conditions, trusting that God will ful fi l the promise He made in Malachi 3:10: _“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it”._ Jubilee also carries responsibility. I encourage you to bring your skills, your talents, your experience, and your creativity. Share your ideas; bring forward your suggestions. Our parish should not fear innovation, for the Spirit of God delights in doing a new thing.

In a family as diverse as ours - across ages, cultures, and perspectives - we must value one another deeply. That means practising openness, tolerance, and respect among ourselves. The young should respect the wisdom of elders, and elders should nurture the enthusiasm of the young. Men and women, new believers and seasoned saints - all of us are indispensable in God’s household. C.C.C. Hymn 773 encourages us to work together in love, and this is supported by Christ’s teachings, which Paul reminded us of: _“That there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another”_ (1 Corinthians 12:25).

I am also grateful to all male and female elders, and to the Parochial Committee responsible for ensuring the smooth administration of all activities in our parish. To the Executive O ffi cers, the Chairman and his deputies, the Secretariat, and the Treasury team, you have led us faithfully and have carried out your great responsibility with diligence. We will hear more about your activities and achievements over the past months later in this AGM as individual reports are presented. May continue to reward you for everything you do in support of our parish. It is not easy to satisfy people, and I pray that God gives you the strength and courage to lead with integrity and humility. Amen!

To our ministry leaders, you have been pillars of our fellowship. To every volunteer who serves quietly but faithfully, know this: your labour of love is seen by God and will be rewarded. Whatever ministry you belong to, whether it is the Choir, Multimedia, Youth, or the Evangelical Ministry, you are called to live di ff erently after experiencing God’s reset. I charge the congregation and those in the Ushering Ministry, our Sidesmen and Women, the Christian Education Ministry and Prayer Ministry to remember that Jubilee is about restoring

relationships and building community. To all members, including the Prophetic Ministry, Welfare and Pastoral Care team, the Christian Education Ministry and our Sunday school, I want to challenge each of you: do not simply be spectators - be participants.

As we prepare to enter our Jubilee year, let us do so with courage and con fi dence. The same God who has carried us these 49 years will carry us into the future. _“Being con fi dent of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ”_ (Philippians 1:6). Our “fresh start” isn’t about discarding the past but about the continuing, active work of God in the present and future. I pray that our 50th year will not be only a celebration of the past but a launchpad into greater mission, deeper discipleship, and wider impact. May we be a parish marked by liberation, restoration, forgiveness, and renewal – the substance and spirit of Jubilee in Christ.

Sometimes, even though we make a clean break and a fresh start, which doesn’t mean everything will go as planned. There may be bumps along the way and setbacks here and there but that doesn’t mean the fresh start wasn’t worth it. A fresh start is a new beginning. So don’t turn back - trust God and keep going as we are encouraged in our C.C.C. Hymn 623: _“Ona t’Olorun ba soro”_ (translated _“The ways of God are mysterious”_ ), then wait and see what He will do - in His time and in His way. If you disagree with something, do not remain silent - speak with grace and boldness. For in the multitude of counsellors there is wisdom, and in openness we fi nd strength. We must all learn from experience, re fl ecting on past struggles, failures, and successes as opportunities for spiritual growth, ensuring that our parish doesn’t repeat mistakes, but instead learns and moves forward stronger.

It’s never too late to have a fresh start when you have life in Christ. I encourage you to look at each day as a chance to start again. When you wake up, declare things like, _“This is the day the Lord has made - I will rejoice and be glad in it!”_ (Psalm 118:24). God is the God of second chances and new beginnings. And if you’ll let Him, He will give you a fresh start, and it will be better than you can imagine. A fresh start can happen anytime; you don’t have to wait for a special day. So why not make today that special day and make a fresh start?

Thanks and may God continue to bless us all. Amen!

## **Final Reflections**

Over the past few years, I’ve come to a deeper understanding: the growth of this church is not just the responsibility of the Shepherd, it is yours as well. Together, we are stewards of this parish. I want to encourage every member to put this parish first. We are more than a church; we are a strong, vibrant community. The future of this parish over the next 50 years demands that all hands be on deck. We therefore extend a heartfelt invitation to members with relevant skill sets to step forward and get involved. When we work together in unity and purpose, we can achieve the extraordinary. We look forward to partnering with you in service and impact.

Finally, to my esteemed colleagues at the Secretariat—THANK YOU for all you do. I couldn’t have asked for a more dedicated and dependable team:

• **Senior Woleader Solomon Jinodu** : Thank you for your unwavering consistency and for always ensuring we are set up for success.

• **Superior Senior Leader Segun Fakorede:** Your willingness to go above and beyond does not go unnoticed. I am truly grateful.

• **Leader Ayo Adewunmi** : Your commitment to offering constructive feedback has been immeasurably helpful. Thank you for sharpening us.

• **Sis Hannah Kuforiji** : The only lady in the house—thank you for your quiet strength and tireless support behind the scenes. God bless you richly.

To our Shepherd, the Chairman of the Parochial Committee, our fathers, mothers, and the entire congregation—thank you for entrusting us with the privilege to serve. It is an honour we do not take lightly.

## **The Treasurer’s Address**

## _**“Success is not nal, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”**_

## **Introduction**

We give all glory and adoration to God Almighty for His protection and faithfulness, seeing us through another challenging but ful fi lling year in our parish. It is once again that time in the year when we come before the congregation to render account of our stewardship for the past twelve months.

In Matthew 25:14-30, we nd the Parable of the Talents, which illustrates how faithful stewards are entrusted with and increase resources, leading to greater responsibility. My prayer is that as we are about to enter the year of our 50[th] Jubilee, Jehovah will trust us with even more of His heavenly and earthly treasures in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!

The composition of the treasury team has remained unchanged, and we thank God for their continued dedication as the custodians of the church funds:

- a) Mother Celestial Victoria Adegbemisoye (First Deputy Parochial Committee Chairperson)

- b) Prophetess Victoria Tayo Coker (Assistant Treasurer)

- c) Lace Superior Senior Elder Sister Osiguwa (Assistant Financial Secretary)

- d) Superior Evangelist Samuel Olumuyiwa (Financial Secretary)

- e) Lace Superior Senior Elder Sister Margaret Benjamin

- f) Elder Sister Ayomide Jinodu

- g) Elder Sister Hannah Omotayo

We are grateful to them for their tireless labour of love, remaining behind after services to ensure all monies and properly recorded and accounted for before banking. It is only God that can repay you, and my prayer is that He will reward your commitment and wise management, and that your e ff orts will bear fruit in all areas of your life. Amen!

At the beginning of each year, the Parochial Committee sets the annual budget for the parish, which serves as our fi nancial guideline. We entered 2024 with optimism following the surplus recorded in 2023. However, this past year presented new fi nancial pressures, resulting in an overall de fi cit.

## **Summary of the 2024 Financial Report**

The nancial year ended with total incoming resources of **£477,857** , compared with **£482,309** in 2023, showing a modest decrease of **£4,452 (0.92%)** . We are grateful to all members of our great parish, who have been steadfast in their fi nancial contributions and commitments to the parish, despite the severe economic conditions prevailing across the globe. Our C.C.C. Hymn xxx say, and we are reminded to trust God in Proverbs 3:9-10, which says, “Honour the Lord with your wealth, with the fi rstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be fi lled to over fl owing, and your vats will brim over with new wine”. May God continue to bless the work of your hand. Amen!

While income remained broadly stable, expenditure increased signi fi cantly. Total expenditure in 2024 amounted to **£630,362** , compared with **£402,645** in 2023, an increase of **£227,717 (56.56%)** . The major drivers of this increase were higher welfare/charity commitments, depreciation costs, and increased ministry and activity-related expenses.

This led to a net de cit of **£152,505** , compared to a surplus of **£79,664** in the previous year.

## **How We Operate**

Our operational system remains the same, with strong internal checks and balances to ensure accountability and transparency. No single member of the treasury team starts and completes any fi nancial process. All funds collected during the week are counted and banked on the following Monday. The Treasurer does not handle cash counting or deposits.

We continue to maintain the following accounting

Our freehold property continues to be carried at a revalued amount of **£2,667,568** (down from £2,831,557 in 2023, following depreciation). The Trustees remain prudent in using conservative valuations.

Our bank balance at 31st December 2024 stood at **£329,157** , compared to **£340,115** in 2023, representing a small decrease of **£10,958 (3.22%)** despite the higher overall expenditure. I thanks all

members of the Treasury Team for minimising the impact of this higher expenditure on our year-end balance.

## **Welfare/Charity - £125,932**

Expenditure on welfare/charity in 2024 rose signi fi cantly to **£125,932** , an increase of **£22,769 (22.06%)** compared to £103,163 in 2023. This category continues to cover numerous cost centres, including bereavements, hospitality, refreshments, child births, gifts to students and elders, and other charitable support deemed necessary by our Shepherd.

## **Debtors – £93,139**

The amount due from Fountain Children Nursery remains outstanding. By year-end, no payments had been received since October 2023. As a result, an additional **£52,052** was written o ff as bad debt in 2024, signi fi cantly impacting our fi nal results.

## **Creditors**

**Bank loans/overdrafts** : At year-end, the balance stood at **£142,683** in total, split between £17,776 due within one year and £124,907 due after more than one year. We continue to make regular repayments, with the aim of reducing the outstanding balance further.

**Trade creditors** : £14,817, relating mainly to cheques written before year-end and cleared in January 2025.

**Accruals/deferred income** : £5,357, covering audit fees, payroll, and accrued bank loan interest. **Social Security and other taxes** : £6,121, re fl ecting PAYE/NI due to HMRC.

## **Projects Update**

## **Bexley Project**

We continue to explore funding opportunities for the Bexley Project. Rising interest rates and tightened lending conditions have made this more di ffi cult than anticipated, but e ff orts remain ongoing to identify suitable fi nancing options.

## **Gallery Project**

The pressure on space and seating capacity in our church continues to be a major concern. Work has progressed on preparatory designs, including fl oor plans, 3D drawings, and access statements, with pre-application discussions ongoing with the Council. This project remains a key priority to improve the worship environment for our members.

## **Conclusion**

Despite the nancial challenges, the treasury team remained steadfast in supporting the various ministries and activities of the parish. We appreciate the commitment of the Secretariat, the Parochial Committee, and all the church ministries who have worked tirelessly to ensure that the operations of the church remain professionally managed.

We also appreciate the patience and cooperation of all ministries and those who had cause to engage with us during 2024. We cannot please everybody all of the time, and we thank you for bearing with us. We are especially grateful to our Shepherd for his wisdom, fatherly guidance, and support in steering us through this demanding year.

Although 2024 was nancially more challenging, our achievements remain the result of collective e ff ort. I am proud of the treasury team, whose diligence, honesty, and commitment as custodians of God’s resources remain exemplary. May God bless every member of the team for their continued dedication. We also thank Turpin Barker Armstrong Accountants, our independent examiners, for their guidance and professional support in ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. We remain con fi dent that, with God’s help and the continued commitment of our members, our parish will overcome these challenges and fl ourish in the years ahead.

Amen! Amen!! Amen!!!

## **Pastoral/Welfare Report 2024**

for outstanding performance in their duties for the past years.

astoral/Welfare Ministry is one of the twelve vibrant Ministry created by the Church Authority Pin 2004. The purpose of the ministries are to look into the day to day running of the Church and to assist those in authority to the smooth operation and execution of all Church events and activities.

We created a group forum where our elderly members can interacts, discuss and share views which reduces their loneliness and others among them.

The Pastoral/welfare Ministry is geared towards taking care of the needy in and out of the Church. I would like to thank all the old saints that God has elected to work in this vibrant Pastoral/Welfare Ministry. We also welcome two additional saints, namely MC Foluke Akintan and Brother Oluwasegun Ademuyiwa. May the Lord reward us all in a million fold. Amen.

We plan to visit more important places within and outside London this coming year where the memories of the past years would come into remembrance again.

Many of our plans for the Parish Pastoral and Welfare progress would be revealed in due course.

We thank God, and acknowledged our Shepherd and head of the Pastoral and Welfare Ministry, Venerable Superior Evangelist Samuel Olusegun Idowu, the Parochial Chairman AVSE Olugbenga Akande and his executives, the elders of the church, and all members of our great parish, C.C.C Elephant and Castle Parish for your support over the years.

Our duties among others includes taking care of all the pastoral visitors that attend the parish for any o ffi cial assignments. We act as the representative, bridging the gaps between the Shepherd, Chairman of the Parochial Committee and the rest of the members of the Church. We serve as the fi rst point of contract in case of any challenges that any registered member of the Parish may be facing and make sure that they obtain a successful result.

We promise that with God’s help, we shall not disappoint you. This Ministry noticed the increase in the numbers of the new in fl ows into to church. This is what we pray for and we hope there will increase in the Kingdom of God through them. Amen!

As said earlier, Pastoral and Welfare Ministry main duties are to care for the needy. This includes the elderly, widows or widowers, orphans, bereaved, those getting married, new parents, birthday celebrants and any special occasions of any of the registered members of this great Parish.

We would like to appeal to the church authority to please look into the ways and methods of accepting new members to a full membership of the Parish. While some are here genuinely for the salvation of their souls, many are here for what they may gain from being members of a successful organization like ours. For this, we recommend a gap of two years after becoming a registered member before you can enjoy the full bene fi ts for the Welfare packages.

Some of the achievements of this Ministry in the last year include: The arrangement for an external Marriage Counselling Organization (ECS) to provide counselling training and services for our members. Christmas gifts for all the members and special gifts for most of our elderly members.

It is our duty to reach out to all those that are in needs in this parish, but we cannot do this without properly investigating every case. We cannot do this without the help of every member, hence we rely on your laudable information in order to perform to the expected standard. May God help us all. Amen!

Arrangements of hosting visit within and outside London to our over 70s.

Counselling and Safeguarding training for some of our members in order to ful fi l the government policy of running churches in the 21[st] century. The training were conducted by Essex Counselling Service (ECS) and participants achieved Level 1 and 2 certi fi cates.

We congratulate the parish for the recent successful harvest and also look forward to a be fi tting and successful 50[th] Year Anniversary in advance.

We organized get-together discussions for our 70’s every two months, varying our activities to be in line with the needs of the group.

Long live C.C.C. Elephant and Castle Parish and God bless. Halleluyah!
