## Chairman’s Statement 2020/21 November 2021

This past year has been a challenging one with repeated closures due to Covid rules and our own isolations due to lack of volunteers who were isolating. We rehomed 79 dogs however we did notice a distinct lack of dogs coming into our shelter and an increased demand to adopt – this sounds great however we were very aware of the ‘lockdown dog’ phenomenon and expected tsunami of unwanted dogs heading our way when Covid rules relax.

Donations however did remain very steady and we increased our income on the previous year. We had to completely change our method of fundraising as ‘in person’ fundraising was every more difficult. A robust campaign of online fundraising was undertaken with good results. Our expenditure increased and we are exploring ways to cut costs by investing in solar power for the Sanctuary to insulate the dogs and us from increasing energy bills which we know are on the way.

We are proud of the way we have endured through this pandemic and are confident that we are now out of the worst of it and life can return to normal. It is our 70[th] year next year and hope to celebrate with some high impact fundraising and awareness campaigns which is giving us much to look forward to.
