Chairman's Review
With the above groups, over 200 people pass through the doors each week to enjoy the various activities. The Trustees of the Ellesborough Parish Hall Charity are therefore delighted to report another successful year for the Village Hall, which continues to provide a wide range of opportunities for members of the local community. The Trustees, which comprise the Ellesborough Parish Hall Committee (EPHMC), all work hard in their individual roles in managing the day-to-day running of the Hall and I am very grateful for their ongoing support.
Our Treasurer, Paul Oldroyd , has produced a Finance Report describing the income, from both private hire and events, and expenditure during the year. I would like to thank him for all his hard work in keeping up to date with our income and expenditure and for keeping up with the deposits and booking forms and chasing up any late payments. A lot of time and hard work goes into this role and the Committee are very grateful for the Treasurer’s services.
Sally Withey has taken on the role of Bookings’ Secretary and she gives towards the smooth running of this administration. has worked hard to promote and organise both existing and future bookings. She deals with all telephone and e.mail enquiries and spends a lot of time showing people our facilities and promoting maximum bookings, which then lead to firming up the paperwork and organising the diary and key collection. The Committee appreciate the time and dedication
The 200 Club, a main revenue stream and a chance for the local community to support this lottery, which is drawn each month, was once again spearheaded by Sally Withey. Each year, she is busy promoting and recording new members and then sending out the membership numbers. This also promotes the hall as a provider of valuable benefits to the local community and encourages donations.
In 2025 we were able to carry out major refurbishment works in the toilet areas, swapping over the male and female spaces. The work was carried out by Mark Scott Construction and the project was a huge success. Just one week over schedule but on budget, carefully managed by our Treasurer. In the future we also hope to draw up plans for a new entrance at the rear of the hall which would provide easier access for people arriving by car. This would especially benefit disabled visitors and the elderly, especially during the winter months and also help with and give the rear of the hall an attractive and practical feature.
Routine maintenance such as tree surgery, external painting of the hall itself and some of the fencing will eat into our healthy funds. Despite being busier than ever and bringing in more revenue, unfortunately, the cost of electricity has depleted this new found increase to our reserves. We will always keep a contingency fund for any emergency work and the Committee look forward to a prosperous and successful year for this landmark building at the heart of the Ellesborough community.
Treasurer’s Report for the Year Ending 30 September 2025
Net Operating Expenditure in the year exceeded the Income from Hall Hire, the 200 Club and Donations by £51,848 after expenditure on the refurbishment of the Gents, Ladies and Disabled toilets and the external re-decoration of the Hall. This compared with net income in the prior year of £20,384.
Income from Hall Hire in the year rose to £35,254 as a result of increased bookings, compared with £30,205 in the previous year. Electricity costs remained high at £13,412. (£12.906 in the prior year). These should reduce substantially from January 2026 when payments under the existing fixed term contract end.
Forward bookings for the year ending 30 September 2026 suggest that the current level of Hall Hire income is likely to be maintained.
At 30 September 2025 total funds stood at £29,863 compared with £82,738 at the end of the prior year.
Conclusion
The Trustees are proud of what has been achieved this year at the Ellesborough Village Hall. As we look to the future, we remain committed to stewardship, improvement and ensuring the hall continues to serve as a welcoming space.
