Objecls and fjims
During the life of both Settlors or the Survivor. the income of the Trust Fund and also so much of the capital of
the Trust Fund as the Scttlors may from time to time detemiine was to be paid to such charities or for such
charitable purposes as the Settlors may from time to time direct.
After the death of the Survivor of the Settlors on 24 June 1994, the TTUStee5 have power to pay or apply the
capital and income of the Trust Fund to such charities or IOT such charitable purposes and in such proportions in
sllch ￿aAller and subject to such tenns and conditions as they may at their uncontrolled discretion having regard
to any diTections givell or wishes expre55cd by the Settlors to the Trustees.

Inv¢sttnent Management Costs
The Trust's investtnent portfolio is managed by the investmeni manager - Rathbones. who a¢qusred Spiers &
J¢fftey in July 2019. Following the intesntion of Spiers & Jefftey into Rathbones, client fees were increased.
The f¢¢s are now a tlat fee, based on the value of the fund rather than a combination of lower management fees
bllt also traDsaction costs. The Trustees d&scussed tILiS fee increase at that time, CQTnparing the fe¢s with other
brok¢rs. The tNstees agreed that the benefit of continuity was more important and agreed to the fee Ancrease.
Publle bertefil
The Trustees c¢)nsider that all granis are madc for the public benefit and are aware of the guidance in that
resp¢ct published by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
The Trusiees confm that they have complied with the requirements of section 4 of the Charities Act 201 I to
have due regard to the public benefit guidan¢e published by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

The T￿￿t has established its grant makjng policy to achieve its objectives by supporting various small to
medium sized charities.
The Trustees regret that due to the large number of unsolicited applications for grant5 received each week they
are Dot able to notify those which are unsuccessful.

The Incorne Account for the Trust ended the year with a deficit of £322.170. Totsl income from th¢ Trust
investtnent portfolio for the year was £2)2,917. Expenditure was £71,083, and Gran15 were £199,123.
The Capital Account for the Trust is £7.273,513 before adju5tiDg for this d¢fi¢it on the incorne Accounl and the
Trustee5 have accepted for many years that a deficit on the Income Account is acceptable while the Capital
Account remains $0 large. In effect the Trustees accept that the broker costs are Covered from tbe Capital
Aceount.

The Misses Barrie Charitsble Trust is a registered charity, number 279459, governed by a Declardtion of
Charitsble Trusts dated 18 December 1979 by the late Miss Sheila Coupar Barrie and the late Miss Moira
Morrison BaTTie.
New Trustees are appointed by the existi]Jg Tn￿tee$. The Trust Deed does not provide for any minimum or
maximum number of Trustees or for any fixed temi for which they may act.
At the Tnjstees, meetings. normally held twice a year, the Trustees agree thc broad strategy and areas of activity
for the Trns¢ including consideration of grant making, investm¢nL reserves and risk management policies and
perfomiance. The day to day administration of grants and the processitEg and handling of applications prior to
Consideration by the Tn]stres is delegated to the Athninistrdtion oifice. Save as mentioned below all Trustees
give of their time freely and no Trustee remuneration was paid in the year. Details of related paty transactions
and Tn￿le¢S exp¢nse5 disclosed in Note 13 to the accounts.
John Carter, one of the TNstees, is a partner of Raymond Carter & Co, the Athnintstrators of the T￿￿t. A fee is
charged for thcs¢ services and is agreed annually by the other Trustees.

The trustees are responsible for preparing the tNstees' r¢port and the financial statements in accordance with the
United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepled Accounting Practice) and
applicable law and regulations.
The law applicable to charities requires the trustees to prepare fjnancial statements for each financial year which
give a tru¢ and fair view of the stste of affairs of the charEty and of the incoming resources and application of
resourc¢s of the charity for that period. In preparing these financial statern¢nts, the trustees are required to..
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistentty-
observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP-

The fJn8ncial statements have been prepared in accordance with the second edition of ihe CharitiC5 Ststement of
RecomTncnded Practice issued in October 2019. the Financsal Reporting Standard applicable in the United
Kingdom and Republic oltreland (FRS 102) and the Charities Act 2011.
Basis of preparatio
The Misses Barrie Charitable T￿t meets the defmition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. The accounts
(financial statement5) have been prepared under the historical cost Convention with items recognised at cost or
transaction Value unl¢ss otherwise stated in the relevant notels) to these account5.
Going concern
The trust¢¢s co￿lder that there are no material uncertainties aix)ut the chariry's ability io continue as a going
on¢¢rn.
Income and endowments

Taxation
The charity is considered to pass the tests set out in Paragraph I Schedule 6 of the Finance Act 2010 and
therefore it meets the definition of a charitable company for UK COTporation tax purposes. Accordingly, the
charity is potentially exempt from taxation in respect of income or capital gains received within categories
covered by Chapter 3 Part I l of th¢ Co￿Oration Tax Act ?010 or Section 256 of the Taxation of Chargeable
Gains Act 1992, to the extent that such income or gains are applied exclusive]y to charitsble purposes.
Fixed asset investmettts
Fixed asset investments, other than programme related investtnents, are included at maTket value at the balance
sheet date. Realised gains and 1055es on investh]ents are calculated as the difference between sales proceeds and
their market value at the start of the year. or their subsequent cost. and are charged or credited to the Statetn¢nt
of Financial Activities in the period of disposal.
