Lead Volunteer 8th Worthing
Welcome to 8th Worthing Sea Scout Group’s annual report and accounts for the period 1st April 2023 to 31st March 2024. This year has seen my role change from Group Scout Leader (GSL) to Lead Volunteer (LV), and whilst my title has changed my commitment to the development of 8th Worthing remains at the heart of my actions.
This year started with the 95th Group camp which celebrated the achievements at 8th Worthing. We had a lovely sunny weekend and brought all the Sections together for fun activities and highlighted the importance of Scouting to our young people.
I want to thank several people that enabled this camp to happen, firstly all the Leaders past and present that came together and supported me with the planning and activities. The Trustee team played a key role in the weekend and also all the parents that stepped up and supported particularly the catering team! Also, a special mention to my family who supported me through the months of planning for the weekend.
2024 has started with the first stages of Transformation which involves a total overhaul of the structures in Scouting with an aim to improve collaboration and accessibility. The Trustee Board, made up of a mixture of Leaders and parent supporters, are leading on embedding these changes as well as working behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of 8th Worthing. This has included maintenance of HQ to ensure we are in a good place as we move towards our 100th anniversary in 2028 as well as the introduction of rifle shooting at 8th – Worthing a special thank you to Kevin Lawrence for his support on this.
As Lead Volunteer I want to reach out and thank everyone for their continued support as this has enabled the delivery of a diverse programme across all sections. I’d especially like to highlight the massive contribution from the Osprey Team which gives all members the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme from Bronze through to Gold.

Lead Volunteer 8th Worthing cont.
Volunteering is key to the success of 8th Worthing from the young people that - participate in the Young Leadership Programme through to long term adult volunteers who have supported 8th Worthing for decades. This year I’d like to make a special mention for Barabara Wells who has achieved 50 years of volunteering with 8th Worthing.
With the support of Harry Rippon and the Explorer team, not only are our young people able to give back to other Sections, helping our younger members in their weekly activities, they are also able to work towards higher level awards including the Kings Scout Award, the highest achievement in Scouting.
On 31st March 2024, we had 210 young people across the seven Sections, with 42 adult Leaders and 25 Young Leaders delivering programmes. This was supplemented by a number of regular Parent Helpers, without whom some Sections would not have been able to operate.
As a Group we benefit from outstanding facilities and equipment as well as Leaders with a range of skills and knowledge. Moving into the next 12 months we need more parents to join the team and support our Sections. With the benefit of the Transformation changes, you can volunteer on your terms and the best bit is no experience is needed to step up and support! Without existing and new - volunteers, we will struggle to deliver on going positive outcomes at 8th Worthing.
Finally, as Lead Volunteer I want to express my thanks and gratitude for your commitment on a weekly basis to ensure a diverse programme for the members. Volunteering is incredibly rewarding and beneficial to young people and the wider community in Worthing.

Chairman’s report
Chair’s Report for 2023/24
Introduction
This report comes just over a year into my role, initially as a Trustee and, from the last AGM, as Group Chair. As a relative newcomer to the Group Trustee Board it has been an eyeopener to the extraordinary work and efforts, carried out by an enormous number of volunteers, who all contribute to offering opportunities to young people in our area through 8th Worthing Group.
I personally witnessed the extraordinary skills of one of our Volunteers when I visited Lee Martin’s Bushcraft Leaders Instruction Weekend at Broadstone Warren. Lee is an Explorer Team Member and Bosun and his skills and the attendant Leaders enthusiasm in learning Bushcraft was humbling to witness. Lee is only one of a number of our Volunteers, led by Mark Mears, who do astounding work in offering our young people an inclusive and happy context in which to develop their skills for life.
As at 31st March 2024 we were responsible, from a Scouting perspective, for two hundred and ten young people within the 8th Worthing Group across seven - - sections, with forty two Adult Leaders and twenty six Young Leaders supplemented by a number of regular Parent Helpers to develop and deliver our Scouting offering. This is a responsibility that our Group Trustee Board take extremely seriously.
The 8th Worthing Team
I would like to once again thank Mark Andersen, who stood down as Group Chair at the last AGM and Alison Marino, who also stood down in 2023, for their work on the Group Trustee Board. My huge thanks go to the current Group Trustee Board for their work and contribution to the Board. The Board now consists of nine - members alongside the Chair Paul Chaplain, Elizabeth Holmes, Alec Irvine, James Kennedy, Kevin Lawrence, Mark Mears, Harry Rippon and Robert Tennent.

Chairman’s report cont’
8th Worthing needs to continue to evolve and continue to develop to meet the changing needs of today’s young people and remain fit for purpose for our 100th Anniversary. As a step towards this aim the Trustee Board will conduct, during the next year, an open selection process for appointing up to two further young (aged - between eighteen and twenty five) trustees to the Board in accordance with the current scout policy, organisation and rules (POR). These young people nomination opportunities will be duly advertised on 8th Worthing social media, websites and newsletters etc.
In the last year the role of the Chair and Trustees Boards have significantly changed under The Scout Transformation Programme. The transformation programme separates governance (Group Trustee Board) from operational (Group Leadership Team) matters. Our role, as charity Trustees, is to make sure the Group is run safely and legally. At the heart of our role is a focus on strategy, performance and assurance. Whilst we continue this transformation I am confident that the Group Lead Volunteer, Mark Mears, and the Group
Leadership Team will continue to deliver the excellence that 8th Worthing has become accustomed to.
Finances
The Group remains in good financial shape with the Group bank balance being - £62,294 at year end. This is slightly up on the balance this time last year of £60,121, the Group made a surplus of £2,173.
The surplus was mainly due to Gift Aid and Bank Interest being greater than expected and due to the excellent work of Robert Tennent, our Group Treasurer.
For the next financial year the Trustees have agreed an operational budget that includes further necessary upgrades to the Group Headquarters that will be partly funded by Reserves.
Development Plan
Following the revised structure of the Group Trustee Board’s remit the Group Leadership Team will lead development of the Group Development Plan in 2024/2025.

Below are the Group accounts for the year ended 31[st] March 2024. The accounts have been audited by an independent examiner, Kirse Medlyco MICB of Angel Bookkeeping. They represent the accounts for the Group and Secons combined. Explorers are shown separately, as they are a District provision and therefore also included in the Worthing District accounts.
- end. This is slightly up on the balance this me last year of £60,121, the Group made a surplus of £2,173.
This surplus was mainly due to GiAid being greater than expected (thank you to those who have completed a declaraon), and Bank Interest (we have moved our Reserves to a 32 Day Noce Account which pays beer interest, and rates were generally higher than expected for a large part of the year).
Next financial year, 2023/24, the Trustees have agreed an operaonal budget that includes further upgrades to HQ, as below, that will be partly funded by Reserves. The budget vs. actual spend is managed monthly and scrunised at each Trustee Board meeng to ensure we stay financially stable, and to ensure that we deliver against our Development Plan.

Port Beavers
We started off the Summer Term by learning about our Patron Saint, St George. Due to the weather being against us one evening, we had to meet at the HQ and had an impromptu evening, in which we coloured in a giant picture of King Charles lll as it was his Coronation Year. The following week we then did a town walk round Worthing Town Centre.
As this was our 95th Year, we had a Big Group Camp at Blackland Farm, where we had the wonderful help from Badger - and Ratty (ex members of 8th Worthing). All the Beavers that came had the most wonderful time.

We also completed the Navigators badge, Explorers, Collectors, Health and Fitness badge, and Campcraft Badge and visited the Fire Station at Worthing, plus a litter Pick and Rock pooling, and ended the term with a joint party with Starboard Beavers. We also had the opportunity to earn Time on the Water, Paddle Sports Level 1 and Nautical Skills Level 1, thanks to a Cub and Beaver Water Activities Day at Southwater Park, near Horsham.
In the Autumn term the Beavers did their air activity badge, their emergency aid 1 badge and their communicator badge. We had fun making Bonfire pictures and visit from Jaws and Claws, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. We also took the Beavers to Out of Bounds where they had a fantastic time on the Adventure Nets. We couldn’t hold our annual sleepover at our own HQ but stayed overnight at 2nd Worthing HQ and went to Amazon Adventure and on the way back
spent some time in the local park. One of our parents (who has Scottish family) ran an evening for us which was a great success. We finished the term with a Christmas party.
For the start of Spring term 2024 one of our leaders Mel ‘took’ the children on the trip round the world that she did with her family when she was young, we celebrated Chinese New Year, gained their International activity badge and had a visitor helping us with their Faith badge. We then finished off the term by going Bowling at Hollywood Bowl in Worthing.

Starboard Beavers
Starboard Beavers has been as popular this year as it ever has been. Our numbers are at maximum
and our joining list is full to bursting with children wanting to join us at beavers. This year we have
managed to gain 11 bronze awards, 50 challenge badges, 131activity badges and a magnificent 107
staged badges.
I have decided to do a slightly different format for my report this year as the main theme for Beavers is fun and friends so I hope these photos show what fun we have doing our varied activities at beavers. Here are a handful of the many many activities we have done this
year.

ROCKPOOLING EVENING
At the end each term we hold a badge presentation evening where parents are asked to stay
for the night to watch their child's badge presentation and then join in with the rest of the evening.
Always nice to see all parents and beavers together.
Within our programme we have covered the explorer badge, emergency aid 1 badge, collectors badge, creative badge, cyclist badge, sports badge, safety badge, nautical skills, paddlesports, time on the water badge, hikes and of course covered the Challenge Badges which are needed to achieve our highest badge available within Beavers the Chief Scout Bronze award.

None of our activities where we take the beavers out of the hall would be possible without the
support of our parents. They really are amazing at responding when I request parents help. They put
up with my endless messaging them reminding them of things and coaxing them to ask their child to
complete badgework at home!

CISSBURY HIKE IN THE SUN
We have had an amazing team of young leaders join us to help our leadership team since
September. They are totally self motivated now and are a huge asset to our leadership team.
Fox (Stephen) has been my rock and has been there for me throughout this year.
So that’s the Starboard beavers report and personally I look forward to another year of running our
beaver colony and hopefully “Making a difference" to these children’s lives.

Port Cubs
A year in review
Port Cubs have enjoyed a lot of fun activities this year, such as decorating a huge egg for a National Trust trail, creating their own island maps, hiking up Cissbury Ring to renew their promise, baking biscuits, competing in the Aqua Olympics, creating science experiments, and making and racing chariots as part of their pioneering work. All these
activities and many more have helped the pack
earn a total of 147 badges, including five Chief Scout Silver
Award
Our programme also offers out-
door and adventurous offsite activities that engage - our cubs in bushcraft, water based challenges, wide games, treasure hunts as well as trips to Out of
Bounds, Pets at Home, the fire station, and ice rink.
Our group values the input of our Cubs in choosing activities and challenges for our programme, which helps them stay interested and lets us offer a diverse and enjoyable schedule.

One of the key activities in our Cub Scouting adventure is camping, where every Cub gets to spend nights outdoors, cook their own food, acquire bushcraft skills, and gain confidence by participating in different sporting challenges. Our camp this
year promises to be more fun than ever as - we go on a four day trip to Bushy Wood.
We appreciate the assistance of our young leaders Noah, Rosie, Charlie, Dylan, and Isaac from the
Osprey Explorer Unit, who have been involved in every evening's activities, from planning and running the program to organizing games. We also want to thank Lucy, who has frequently offered her time as a parent helper and has been very supportive.
A variety of activities and learning opportunities are offered to the 8th Worthing Port Cubs.

Starboard Cubs
What an amazing year Starboard Cubs has had. Growing and flourishing as a team bringing a wealth of experience and skills the leadership team, young leaders and amazing parent helpers have helped establish a firm foundation for the pack.
Following on from a successful group camp in May with the wider 8th Worthing community the highlight of Starboard Cubs year has got to be our Autumn Camp, encouraging and providing those cubs who have never camped before or those with only limited camping experience the opportunity to sleep under canvas and participate in a range of activities including zip lining, climbing Jacob's ladder, tomahawk throwing and of course not forgetting singing around the campfire.

At HQ we have had science evenings, yoga experiences, tugs of war (practicing our knot tying); and celebrated Halloween, Christmas, Chinese New Year and St - George’s Day amazingly we learnt the Scout promise in Makaton. We have played lots and lots of games both indoors and finally out (on the field), ever grateful to our young leaders for coming up with lots of new games ideas. We also enhanced our photography skills on a trip to the beach.
We have participated in fashion shows, putting our creative skills to the test using only bin bags, cooked our own pizzas; had water fights, a sausage sizzle, hiked in the dark and not forgetting our very funny visit to the Panto at Christmas. We also helped support our local community thanks to our cub Louie for inspiring us with the More Radio Toy Appeal. More recently we welcomed Matt Fiddes martial arts who ran a fantastic self defence and martial arts evening. 8thworthing.org.uk/join

Looking ahead to the rest of the year we are looking forward to a visit from the Air Ambulance Crew, enhancing our emergency aid skills, learning orienteering and putting our skills to practice, a taste of yachting aboard Supeta, enjoying a (hopefully sunny) family bbq evening, participating in Cub and Beaver water activity days, and ending the year with a joint celebration with Port Cubs before our much anticipated Summer Camp.
WHERE AM I?
We have welcomed in new Beavers and said farewell to our Scouts ever hopeful that they continue to enjoy their scouting journey.
We would like to express our thanks to Fiona, Louise, Kevin and Mark for assisting us so evenings went ahead for the cubs over the last year; our amazing team of leaders Alex, Paul and Robin, our
helpers who regularly help and support the section, our parent helpers, our young leaders Ella, Freddie, Ben, Harry and Billy and of course the cubs themselves who (mostly!) make our time volunteering enjoyable and rewarding.

REMEMBRANCE PARADE
Below are quotes from some of the Scouts about what they have enjoyed in this year's programme.
“My favourite part of Scouting is kayaking! I love the games we play on the water and splashing my friends” Nina on the kayaking session done as part of the Summer term rotations. Where the Scouts in small groups get to spend an evening practising and developing their kayaking skills at Southwater.
“At Scouts I learnt how to tie knots, which is helpful at home for lots of things. Such as shoe laces and more” Katie on Nautical Skill evening. We covered useful knots for boating activity, ran man overboard scenarios, practised throwing a - life line and discussed the differences between buoyancy aids and life jackets.“
“I really enjoyed Summer Camp because we did mega SUPing, and I did it with all my friends” Peggy said about Summer Camp which was based in Farnham.
“I enjoyed bike maintenance as I was able to help the younger Scouts with naming parts of the bike.” Oliver R on Bike Maintenance evening. Young Leaders showed the Scouts how to look after and maintain a bike.

“I really liked the escape room because it was really fun when we had to solve everything with my friends” Shanaya on Escape Rooms evening. There were 2 pirate themed escape rooms where the Scouts had to work in teams against the clock to unlock the treasure.
“I really enjoyed running my own evening. It was fun being able to plan my own activity, set up the boat and teach the Scouts about sailing.” Ella on Sailing and Snowsports Skills evening. 2 of the Scouts ran skill sessions. Oliver R ran the
snowsports skills activity and Ella ran the sailing skills activity. Ella was able to use her years of sailing experience to share with members of the troop.
“The leaders that ran the evening clearly put a lot of thought into it. Challenges are creative and force us to think outside the box.” Anya on 5 Minute Challenges evening. In pairs the Scouts had to work through a variety of different tasks.
Running of the Troop could not happen without all of the leaders and young leaders who give up their Friday evenings when they can. The additional adults who support on weekend and camp events. And the Group Scout Leadership Team supporting the section throughout the year.

Osprey Explorer Unit
At the end of March this year, we had 44 invested Explorers. We continue to be one of the biggest Explorer Units in the UK. Osprey ESU continue in partnership with 8[th] Worthing and we appreciate the mutual benefits that being a part of the group bring. We have 26 members of the Unit serving as Young Leaders within the group.
Core Programme
The Unit’s core program contains two main elements: The Chief Scouts (CS) Awards Nautical Skills / Water Activities Also central to the programme is the DofE Award: – Bronze Platinum Award
– Silver Diamond Award – Gold Queens Scout Award
- The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is a voluntary, non competitive programme of activities - for anyone aged 14 25. Founded by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh in 1956, there are 3 progressive levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. At each level participants undertake activities in 4 Sections:
– Volunteering undertaking service to individuals or the community – Physical improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities – Skills developing practical and social skills and personal interests – Expedition planning, training for and completing an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad Gold programme participants must also do an additional 5th Residential section which involves staying and working away from home doing a shared activity.
The DofE offers an individual challenge and encourages young people to learn about commitment, responsibility and independence. Gaining any one of the 3 levels of the DofE Award is a huge achievement.
We have had a successful year with these awards, seeing Osprey Explorers achieve:
– 13 x Bronze Awards Oscar Messingham, Lewis Oakton, Noah Stepney, James Anderson, Ollie Bennett, Zac Biggs, Freddie Dingwall, Katie Doyle, Cam Gilham, Bettie Martin, Lizzie O’Haire, Sam Suss, Chloe Thorpe
– 5 x Silver Awards Ben Haste, Ben Smith, Imogen - Bates, Arden Flint, Bailey Norton Griffiths
– 1 x Gold Award Sam Mears
We currently have 19 Explorer’s working towards their Bronze award, 14 towards their Silver and 2 towards their Gold.
As stated above, many of our participants carry out their Young Leader Training through Explorers and help with various sections in the Group to complete the Volunteering Section of their Award. Other activities include coaching sports, being a Young Leader for the Guide Association, teaching computer code, coaching martial arts such as judo and working at a charity shop.

The Physical Recreation section always includes a wide range of activities. At Bronze level, this year has included team games such as football / hockey / rugby, sailing, gym work, martial arts such as kung fu or judo, mountain biking, home fitness, individual sports such as tennis, hiking, boxing and dance. Silver has included individual sports such as golf or badminton, martial arts such as kung fu, team games such as netball, hiking, mountain biking and gym work. Gold has included running and cycling.
The Skills section is always interesting as the Explorers show what a wide variety of skills they have and what really interests them. At Bronze these include performing arts, learning a foreign language such as German, learning about music culture, learning a musical instrument such as piano or guitar, the skill behind martial arts such as kung fu, cooking, first aid, gardening, money management, fishing and reading. Silver includes cooking, model making, learning an instrument such as piano, performing arts, chess and learning about music culture. Gold includes painting, model construction and agriculture.
We held successful expeditions across Bronze, Silver and Gold levels this year;
In May, 12 Explorers took part in their Bronze Qualifying Expedition in the West Dean area and in August, we had two expeditions being run at the same time: 7 Explorers went to the New Forest for their Silver expedition and 4 Explorers went to the Lake District for their Gold expedition. We were the only Explorer Unit in Worthing able to offer a Gold expedition in 2023 and that is a huge testament to the Leadership team who delivered it.
I would like to say a huge thank you to all the Leaders who have helped our Explorers to achieve – these awards Paul Chaplain (Bronze & Silver Mentor / Bronze Expedition Lead Supervisor), Andrew Shakespeare (Silver Expedition Lead Supervisor), Kev Lawrence (Gold Mentor / Expedition Lead Supervisor), Steve Briscoe (Expedition Assessor), Lee Martin (Bronze Mentor / Expedition Supervisor), Jennah Costan (Bronze Mentor / Expedition Supervisor), Ben Rees (Expedition Supervisor), Bryn Clements (Expedition Supervisor), Lucy Blower (Expedition Supervisor), Andy Blackmore (Expedition Supervisor), Rick Worsfold (Bronze Mentor), Lucy Poole (Bronze Mentor), Tavis Stringer (Bronze Mentor) and any others that have either acted as an Assessor or welcomed our Young Leaders into their Leadership teams.

Camps
In May, 28 Explorers and 6 Leaders headed to Blacklands Farm to take part in 8[th] Worthing’s 95[th] Anniversary Group Camp! Osprey ESU has worked in partnership with 8[th] Worthing since Explorers begun in 2002 so it was great to join up with the other 161 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Adults for a long weekend of fun. Activities included: paddleboarding, bushcraft, campfires, gladiator challenge, climbing, leap of faith, rifle shooting and many others, but the activity which received the best reception was giant bubbles / badgemaking (thank you to Paul for running that). Thank you to all the Explorers who attended and set a good example to the younger sections, thank you to Mark Mears (Group Lead Volunteer) for organising the camp and Rick, Lucy, Paul, Kev and Lee for supporting the Osprey contingent.
In August, 23 Osprey Explorers went to Switzerland with the rest of Worthing’s Explorers for a 10 - day Summer Camp. Approximately 100 Explorers and Leaders from Worthing attended, and camped alongside hundreds of Young People from across the world making for a great trip and one that I’m sure will last long in the memory of all involved. Activities included: hiking to Blausee lake, a BBQ with the other nations, Brigerbad Water Park, whitewater rafting, high ropes, visiting Swiss cities such as Bern, mountain tubing, hiking up mountains and staying the night on the peaks, geocaching, tobogganing, light trail, funicular railway up Niessen and an international campfire. Thank you to all the Explorers and their families who fundraised to make this trip possible, thank you to Mike Hudgell (District Lead Volunteer) and Al Chartres (District Explorer Scout Commissioner) who leading the trip and Paul, Kev, Rick, Lucy and Dan (Group Helper) for supporting the Osprey contingent.

In September, Osprey took their first trip on Supeta; a 42ft yacht (Supeta), run by 3rd / 5th Lancing Sea Scouts. We were out there for several hours and the weather was so good, some of the braver Explorers jumped in the sea for a swim! Thank you to the volunteers from 3[rd] / 5[th] Lancing for giving up their time.
Remembrance Parade was slightly different this year. We started at HQ before parading down to St. Andrews Church for a short service before coming back for an 8[th] Worthing photo. Thank you to St. Andrews Church for your hospitality and Mark Mears for organising.

Leadership Team
Unfortunately our Leadership team has seen a couple of departures:
Kevin has had to step back from his Osprey role due to work in the Royal Navy moving him further away (including heading out to sea next year) and the impending arrival of his son in September. Fortunately, Kev is still able to assist with the 2024 Bronze DofE expedition programme and our upcoming Summer Camp. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Kev for the past 14 years of service to Osprey. Kev joined as a Leader when I was a still an Explorer, becoming someone for me to learn from when I stepped up to a Leader. Kev then took on more responsibilities when Pet became the Osprey Team Leader and finally, after I took over from Pet, Kev has been an unwavering figure in the team, both on Monday evenings and for DofE. Thank you. Rick has also stepped away to focus on other things. Rick has been a good friend since we were put in the same patrol of my first evening at Starboard Scouts back in 2006 and they were my first appointment to the Osprey team with me as Leader in 2020, after having stints as a Cub Leader and before that, a Scout Leader. Rick has been a huge support over the past 4 years and I am pleased they will be continuing as an Occasional Helper with 8[th] Worthing. Who could forget Rick’s drag night last year!
Prior to these departures though, we saw the arrival of Jennah to the team. Jennah joined 8[th] Worthing in 2022 as a Cub Leader but joined the Osprey DofE teams in 2023, helping with Bronze and Silver, as well as other Osprey evenings when an extra pair of hands were needed. After leaving university, the work patterns of an NHS radiographer made the earlier timings of Cub evenings tricky to make so Jennah’s Osprey role was made more permanent in September 2023. Welcome!
Lastly, thank you to the entire leadership team for making this year possible: Paul Chaplain, Kev Lawrence, Lee Martin, Rick Worsfold, Lucy Poole, Tavis Stringer and Jennah Costan. Thank you to all 8[th] Worthing Team Leaders and their teams for their support of the Young Leader programme and to all our Explorers and their families for being a part of the adventure
Looking forward to what the next 12 months has to offer for Osprey Explorer Unit!

Special projects
Hello, my name is Lee Martin, I have been an Explorer Leader for the past 5 years.
At the end of 2022 Leaders received an email from the Royal Navy's Admiral Lord Nelson Scout Active Support Unit,( ALNSASU). They offered to cover the cost of almost any instructor level course that would benefit Scouting. We simply had to find a useful, nationally recognised, certificated course and give up some of our time.
After a bit of research, I managed to gain a place on a bushcraft course at John Rhyders Woodcraft School in Midhurst. It was a 8 days residential course in Midhurst with a 3 day assessment a month later.
Instructed by John Rhyder, Europe's Lead tracker, at his Woodcraft School. We covered various elements of Bushcraft and survival skills, including, but not limited to, fire lighting, including fire by friction, animal tracking, tree and plant identification and uses, making cordage from natural materials, using sharp edged tools, shelter building and much much more.

Special projects cont.
I managed to pass this intense course and gained an NCFE Advance Bushcraft Award, Level 3, which is equivalent to an A Level.
Group Camp last year was my first chance to work with our young people in this area and have since had fire lighting sessions with both Beaver Colonies, knife skills evenings with Explorers and run a Leaders training
weekend.
There are plans for a young leaders weekend this summer and hopefully a survival skills weekend for Scouts in Autumn.
I have been supported whole heartedly by 8th Worthing's Trustees who have added specialist equipment as we look to further broaden the horizons of the young people in our care.
Kind regards Lee
