Marnhull Recreational Trust – Marnhull Tennis Club

Trustee Report – 2024

The Trust’s purpose is to provide tennis facilities and activities to the residents of Marnhull and surrounding villages, as well as members guests and visitors to the area.

The Trust is run by a committee of volunteers at least two of whom will be the Trustees. The committee is elected at the AGM held prior to the start of the membership year on 1[st] April. The committee meets at least 4 times a year to plan and review club finances and activities. The Trust aims to maintain a committee with the necessary skills to fulfil the Trust’s aims.

The committee looks after the maintenance of the courts, runs the numerous club activities including club nights, tournaments, team matches and manages the finances. The club is very proud of its emphasis on providing opportunities for adults to both learn or return to tennis.Another focus is the programme for children into which several committee members give their time providing a weekly programme of ball skill and tennis development from an early age in conjunction with the club coach. This junior programme culminates in inter club matches and an end of season tournament at the end of the summer holidays.

The Committee ensures that the club has a coach who is available to members directly as well as providing the backbone to a number of the club’s activities.

The core to the club’s finances is the annual subscriptions received in April each year although revenue is also generated from ‘pay & play’. After expenses the club aims to generate £5000 for a ‘sinking fund’ intended for resurfacing courts, upgrading floodlighting and the maintainance of the other trust assets as necessary.

The club’s values emphasise best practice in relation to safeguarding the young, diversity and aspiring longer term towards offering ‘tennis for all’.

## The 2024 Year

The key aspect of 2024 was the completion of the floodlight installation at a total cost of £42,000 of which £29,000 was raised from outside parties as well as a loan from the LTA repayable over the next 4 years. We are very grateful to all who supported us in this project.

Membership reached a new high at 273, including 80 children resulting in revenue overall rising to £12,191 (2023: £10,848). This included £664 (2023: £352) of ‘Pay& Play and guest fees’and £9,907 (2023: £8,249) in membership subscriptions. Costs were £4,179 (2023: £3,493) leaving £8,012 (2023: £7,355) to be transferred to the sinking fund.

The summer mixed league tennis saw the A team winning Division 1 and the B team gaining promotion from Division 2. Our new Mens Winter league team were mid table in the Dorset Mens league division 4.Our two internal competitions (all gender singles and Tombola doubles) were

completed on a fun filled September Sunday, with a high standard being achieved in the singles. However despite the aforementioned the bulk of tennis at Marnhull remains family and friends tennis arranged on an ad hoc basis by club members, alongside the weekly club events on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and Friday morning.

The club website and booking system hosted by ClubSpark has been increasingly informative this year and together with regular use of Facebook keeps members up to date with activities. Three social events were successfully held during the year, particularly the well supported Wimbledon Finals Day event filling The Blackmore Vale pub.

We look forward to seeing growing interest in local tennis.
