## CDRT – Chilthorne Domer Recreational Trust

## Chairs Report 2024 / 2025

May 21[st] 2025

Good evening, I started my report last year with the following words “unaccustomed as I am to public speaking”, well nothing has changed in that respect, so I start with the same premise.

I begin by saying that the past year has again been a busy and successful one, something of which everybody involved must take credit for and be proud of. My thanks in the first instance to all the committee members for their ongoing support and for giving up their time to ensure the Rec remains a venue to be proud of and providing for both the local and surrounding communities. I also add my thanks to those volunteers who are not committee members and sometimes are not given the credit they deserve, but they give up their time to help and support the running of the club and also events that the rec provides. I believe that the efforts everybody makes, results in us as a community to have a successful, welcoming facility for all to enjoy. Thankyou.

Regular clubs continue to hold meetings or sporting activities, these include Village Club Nights, Indoor Bowls, Table Tennis, Skittles League (season 4), Darts and Pool, although they have not taken off as was initially hoped, Gardening Club and Motorbike Club.

Boys and Girls Football continue to have regular training sessions and matches, even the odd kick about session by adult men has taken place.

Over the course of the year the Rec has hosted a wide variety of events, these have included, Summer Fete with the Village School, which did provide an extra heated moment that was not planned! However it was dealt with fairly swiftly we also had an Acoustic Music Night, Christmas Disco, Quiz Night, Afternoon Tea, Open Gardens, Choir Practice , Wedding reception, Birthday Parties of all ages, Wakes, Christening’s, Baby Showers and Presentation Evenings to name but a few, the Rec was also instrumental in introducing the Village Christmas Tree Lighting and Carol Singing evening that was very well attended and enjoyed by all, something that will be a regular annual event in the calendar.

Investments and Projects have continued throughout the year with other projects and work planned, we have amongst other improvements, purchased a Music System awaiting to be fixed and wired in, something which I am sure will be of great benefit to all. The continued work diligence of the committee has also ensured we remain up to date in accordance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations, which applies to both the building the playing area and grounds, with this a special thanks to the Brethren Community who kindly cleared the overgrown edges of the Field pathway of weeds and grass, all of these activities ensure that the Rec remains a enjoyable, friendly and welcoming Facility for everybody to use.

With all this in mind, although passing on my thanks to the committee at the beginning I feel it is noteworthy to mention again and to pass on my thanks to you all for your time and dedication and everybody else concerned making my role as Chairman a lot easier and for the support they provide to those others that are lucky to enjoy what the CDRT provides.

I look forward to the forthcoming year in whatever capacity that is and hope that we can continue the level of support which enables us to provide a fantastic venue to enjoy and be enjoyed, not only by us but all the village and surrounding community.

## Yours

Rob Henstridge
