CDRT - Chilthorne Domer Recreational Trust

Chair’s Report 2023 / 2024

June 19[th] 2024

Unaccustomed as I am to public speaking, can I begin by saying that I believe the past year has been a successful one with activity at the Recreational Centre increasing with a variety of events and bookings and locals supporting many of the functions, events and the regular Club nights.

Following the change to some key roles on the committee, the support and guidance of those outgoing officers and all other committee members has enabled the Recreational Trust to maintain and provide a fantastic facility for the community.

The regular clubs continue to hold their meetings or sporting activities, including the Village Club, Indoor Bowls, Table Tennis, Skittles League (season 3), Gardening Club, Green-steps & Motorbike Club. Along with the Skittles, Darts and Pool have also been introduced.

Ash Rovers Junior Football continue to play Matches and Training activities and more recently we have had girls football start some training sessions as well, there has also been a training, kick about session booked by Adult Men, most of these teams use the field and facilities.

We have over the course of the year hosted many events and groups, some of these are regular but some have been new events and bookings which enhances the portfolio of what the Rec is able to provide to support the local and surrounding community, these events have included a Circus, Race Night, RHS Open Gardens, Morris Men, Elvis, 1979 Group, Family BBQ, Church Tea / Coffee morning as well as hosting Adult & Children’s Parties, Christening Reception’s, Wedding Parties and Wakes.

The Community Market and Monthly Early Bird Saturday Community Drinks / Quiz Night both ran for part of the year, however they both took a well, deserved break. Our thanks to those responsible for all the time and effort they put into these events.

Investments and Projects continued throughout the year with the Refurbishment of the Main Hall including the side room (pool table area). A welcome revamp including Painting & Decorating, Upgrade of Lighting including some rather modern fancy up lighting providing an ambience to suit every occasion. The Tables within the main room area also underwent a makeover, which has been warmly received by all users. More recently the addition of Wessex internet has further enhanced what the Rec can offer. Following the refurbishment, several committee members have received comments on how good the hall looks and the Rec itself to be a modern and welcoming facility for functions.

New Trees have been planted around the Field and although some unfortunately were damaged, the replacements have taken on well, the addition of another table and seating at the front of the Hall provides a welcome space to sit and enjoy the Rec facilities.

The present committee have worked hard and tirelessly together to ensure the Recreation Centre continues to function safely and efficiently with all necessary Health & Safety checks in place.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the committee for their dedication of time and help to the Trust and as previous years the success would not be possible without this support, I would also like to mention and add thanks to all those non committee volunteers who have helped and supported events over the year.

I look forward to forthcoming year and hope we can continue this level of support providing a fantastic venue for the Village and Surrounding community.

Yours

Rob Henstridge
