The Trust is an incorporated trust, constituted under a trust deed dated 8th June 1979 and Is
reglstere¢J Charlty, number 278306. The trust wa5 established by an initial glft of £5,000 In 1979 and
does not actively fundralse. The trustees wlll seek to continue the charltable work carrled OLtt by
John and Paula Splelman over many year5.
The Institution doe5 not acllvely fundralse. All In¢ome is obtalned from Investments which are
mana8ed by Evelyn Partners.
Recrultment and appolntment of tru$tee$
The Trust was set up in 1979 and the original trustees were Chrls Moorsom, Karen Hann and Paul
Cooper, who were appointed by john and Paula Spielman In 2019. The day to day administratlon Is

The law applicable to charitie5 requlres the trustees to prepare financlal Statements for each
flnancial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming
resources and application of resources of the charlty for that period. In preparing these financlal
statements, the trustees are requlred to:
select suitable accounting policSes and then apply them con5i5tentlyi
observe the methods and principles in the Charltles SORP;
state whether applicable accountlng standards have been followed, subject to any
material departures disclosed and explalned In the flnancial statements,. and

Charitles.. Statemènt of Recommended Practico appllcable to charitles preparing their accounts in
accordante with the Flnancial R2porting Stsndard applicable In the Uk and Republ1¢ of Ireland IFRS
1021 leffective I january 20151 Icharities SORP IFRS 10211, the Financial Reportlng StaThdard
appllcable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 and the Companies Act 20D6.
The Splelman Charltable Trust Meets the definition of a publlc entity under FRS 102. Assets and
liablllties are initially re¢o8nised at historical cost or transactlon value unless otherwise stated irn the
relevant a¢counting policy notes.
Income and endowments

All expendlture Is recognlsed once there Is a legal or con5tructlve obllgatlon to that expendlture, It Is
probable that sertlement Is requlred and the amount can be measured rellably. All costs are allocated
to the applltable expenditure heading that aggregate similar costs to that category. Where ¢0sts
annot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated on a basis con515tent
with the use of resource5, wSth central staff costs allocated on the ba$15 of tlme spent and
depreclatlon charges allocated on the portSon of the asset's use. Other support costs are allocated
based on the spread ol stsff costs.

The Charity is consldered to pass the tests set out In Paragraph I Schedvle 6 of the Flnancial Act 2010
and therefore St meets the deflnltlon of a charitable corrpany for UK ¢¢yporatlon tax purposes.
Accordlngly. the Charity Is potentièlly exempt from taxation in respect of income or capital gains
recèived within cat2gories cover&d by Chapter 3 Part 11 of the Corporatlon Tax Act 2010 or Section
256 c>f the Taxation of Chargeable Galns Act 1992, to the èxtent that such Income or galns are applied
exclu5ivelyto charitable purposes.

Fixed asset Investments
FSxed asset investments, other than programme related investments, are included at market value
at the balance sheet date. Realised gains and losses on investments are calculated as the dlfference
between 5ale5 pro￿ed5 and their market value at the start of the year, or their subsequent cost, and
are charged or credited to the Statement of Financial Attivities in the period of disposal.
Unrealised gains and losses represent the movement in market values durlng the year and are
credited or charged to the Statement of Financial Activities based on the market value at the year
