SPEECH & DRAM STAGE DANCING) TRUSTEES, REPORT for the ear ended 31"Janu* 2024 The Festival was fouT¥Jed in 1922 and established &5 a Charity on 2 July 1979. 0ECr1VEs The original objectives of the Charity were to advance, promote aThJ encourage generally and by means of the competitive festival movement in particular, the study and praciice of the art of music, speech & dram& ballmom and stage dancing. When the ballroom dancing section ceased to operaie within the Festival. it was removed fn)m the Festival's Constitution at a Special General Meeiin¥ an& cotL5equently, its advancemen( promotion and encouragement were drOpd from the objectives of the Charily. The Festival. which is affiliated io the Brttish and Internaiional Federalion of Festivals and, as far as SsIble, endeavours to cary out the objectives of that Federatio shall do a]1 such other lawful things as are incidental or conducivc to the attainment of the aforemeniioned objectives. The TrLL%tees confimi that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commissions general guidance on PLEblic knefil when reviewing the Charity's aims arKI objectives and in planning ftrture aclivities. THE FESTIVAL The Festival is held on weekettds in oober and NovemlKr at three different venues. Competitors, who come from all parts of London aTKI tk South-Easi of Englartd (sometimes from other parts of the UK and oveJ3eas), enter a variety of classes within the disciplines of the Festival. Our website conlinues promote the Fcstival throughout Ihe year. An adjudicator is appointed to each class so thai a winner is ideniificd. Many of the classes have trophies which are held by the winner5 for one year. Medals a1 certificates are also awarded. C&sh prizes or bursaries are given lo seleLted competitors to supwjrt their artistic studies. PresentatiOTLS are made during the Festival and other eveErts. if held, diiring the year. The Annual General Meetin& to which the Festival members aTbd public are Invite is in February or March. The conduct of the Festival is inve51ed in an elected Committee. The Mayor of Bromlev is Honorarv President and is invited to attend the Festival and to Chair the AGM. RESULTS FOR THE YEAR AND PLANS FOR THE FtrruRE The surplus for the year was £l1.226 {2023 - deficit - £6.590) with iotai funds Carried forward of £32,243 (2023 - £21,017). The dancing eniries were 1,525 in 2023 (2022 - 1,038), knefiting from il being an All England year. The ovcrall nUmr of entries was lower than thc previous vear because ihere was no Music section in 2023. MusiL entries were 412 in 2022. There was rto Speech & Drama section in 2023 or 2022. The Trustees consider the generdl funds of the charity to te adequate. but nol exccs5iVe, to supw)rt the Charity's activities. STAGE DANCING) I report to the Trustees on my examination of the accounts of Beckenllam Festival (Music: Speech & Diam4 Stage Dancing) [the Charity] for the year ended 31 January 2024 which are set out on pages 4 to 6. Responsibilities and basis of report As the Charil) s Trustees you are resFK)nsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ("the Act":). I report in respect of my examination of the CharÈty's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examinalion I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the ACL Independent examlner's statement I have completed my examination. I confirni that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material Tespect: accounting records were not kept in respect of the Charity &5 required by section 130 of the Act- or the accounts do not accord with those records.
