Demand for support grew through 2022 a5 h¢alth 5ervi¢es continued to be stretched and as the numbcr of children and
young people being diagnosed with JBD it)cr¢a5ed. Of Concern is the continued unprecedented rcqucBts for support from
parents of extremely young children with FBD. Tlie support whtch CICRA offers remains a lifclinc for many families, and
is recognised by botb parents and professionals alike.
In 2022 we produced a leallet entstled 'Babi¢s and Children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. and scnt this out to 3000
GP surgeries.in the hope that if they liad a very yoiing Child with JBD symptoms they would at Icast tliink of this as a

FINANCIAL REVIEW(Contd)
Inve5tmeRt polrcy
Tlie charil￿S eonstitutiott authorises the trust¢e5 to make aiid liold iThveslments using the futth of the ¢harity. There are no
restrictions on the trustees, power to invesl although the twstees ¢ake apprtspriale advice before Jnaking investments
that carry more than a low degreB of risk.
Reserves pollcy
CICRA ha5 no significant secure income, relying almost totally on voluntary contriblltions, donations, grants and
nd-raising activitics. In consequence thc trnstees believe that it is ¢ss¢ntial to liave suffi¢i¢nt funds to cnsure continllity
in the eveni of a temporory r¢ducts"on in illGome. The trustees have agrccd a policy Éo hold reserves on d¢posit equal lo a
minimum of six month5 operational expenses and Covering long ￿rM cominittnents. At the end of 2022 we estimate these to
be £140,000. In addition to this we have £50,769 of knnds restricted to specific projects and £8S,096 for future research
¢ommittnEnt5 We continuously review our research programme to ensure that we are up to date with CUTrellt findings. The
remaining reserves of £400,919 will be used to futsd research recominended to our Twstees by our Medical Advisory Panel
following a rigorous peer review. Thc Trustees IMve earn)arked £250.000 of this for a research fellow and will fund raise to
add to the £150,919 balaTJce tts enable Extsa rc5carcb projects to be commissiotjed.
otrrLOOK
The Trustees ar¢ hopefid that a retum to relaiive nomality will allow them to InCre￿￿e charitable aciiviiies in 2023 and
plans are in pla¢e Its restart ow" ￿PUlar family infornwtjOD days, with ini¢rest expected to be high from both fainilies at
edical professional5.
The TrL15tees also plan to advertise for research applications its2023 now that tlie futur¢ looks a little more settled.
The setting lip of the Paediatric IBD BioResource project led by Professor Holm Uhlig at Oxforf and funded by CICRA,
suffered from dcl&ys ditritjg the pandemic but with a tirne extellsion wc arc pleased to say that many Paediatric Centres are
now in the course of sctting llp, or planning, their local group to collect thi% ongoing data. The T￿￿te¢S Considcr that it is
vital tliat CICRA ¢oi)tsThues to filnd peer reviewed research and to suppon the families and young people diagnosed with
Crolm's disease and UlceTative Colitis which continues lo increase. both in the UK and across the world for which ncither
caus¢ nor ¥ur¢ are yet known. Much has been achieved over the years in tern]s of diagnosis and treat￿£￿t of paediatric IBD,
however the dratnatic increase preval¢n¢e we are seeing wday means that iesearch is needed more than ever. Of
parttcular con¢ern is the illci¢a5e ID Very Early OJJ5et IBD {VEOIBD) in extr¢m¢ly young Children.
Alongsidc tho need to ramp up Tesearch efforts, tlie TrLiStees are conscioll5 of the need to iTh¢rease CICRA'S sUPPOrt offersng
to mect unprecedented dCn￿nd Eor 5UPPQrt from ¢onc¢rncd families. This is being driven partly by an incrcase in
prevalence, and partly by over-stretched healthcare serwces being unable to provide the patient support rhat they would like
to.
As we rebuild post-pandeillic. the Trustees are also revieiving the structure of the charity in order to ensure that it is set up
to acl)ieve its charitable aims in th¢ long t¢rm. A key challenge that thc charity fices LS to grow its income in order to
thc incre&se in a¢&ivitics, such as fundrai5cr support. fan]ily day organisalion and admini8lralion ollhe ￿an1 awards process.
The ¢osi of living crisis 15 expecting to put addiiion21 pressure on CICRA. Looking ahead. 2023 wall be the 45 ' anDiv¢rsary
of CICRA'5 fouiiding which Èh¢ Tn￿te¢S intend to mark with a fundraising cainpaign.
The CICRA TTU5t¢es will continue to review and manage the charity prudently during reeovery from the ¢ur¢nt e¢onomic
ttirbulcncc. They will do all tliey can to continue as far as possible with the researcli 2nd siipport programmes plaiined..
The focus will be to restore thc clw2ty's incorne and ramp up our resEarch. support and aivareness efforts.
At tlie present time the eontributitsn that CIC]iA makes to th¢ ficld ofpaediatric IBD remains as vital as ever. We belicve
Ihat the surge in new IBD diagnoses ¢reaies an urg¢nt need (or fiffther research and support. parti¢ularly for the vcry early
