3. Strurture, Governance and Management
The Britlsh Zeolite Association is governed by its Constitution adopted on 20 April 1979. The
trustees are responsible for the overall governance. strategic direction. and administration of

the charity, and for ensuringthat the charity complies with its governing document. charity law,
and relevant regulatory requirements.
Trustees are appointed in accordance with the provisions Set out in the constitution, typicallv
from among members of the Association with relevant scientific, academic, or organisational
expertise. New trustees are provided with an introduction to the charity's activities and
governance arrangements through engagement with existing trustees and participation in
meetings.
The trustees have given consideration to the major risks to which the charity 15 exposed.
Systems and procedures are in place to manage and mitigate these risks, particularly in relation
to financial controls, the orsani5ation of meetings and events, reputationaS risk, ènd data
protection and communications.
4. Objectives and Public Benefit
The charitable objects of the Brit15h Zeolite Association are to advance education, forthe benefft
of the public, in the study of zeolites, including the technology and application thereof in the
areas of chemistry, geology and chemical engineerin& the undertaking of rese3rch, and the
publication of the useful results of such research.
In settingand reviewing the charity's activities, the trustees have had due regard to the Charitv
Commission's guidance on public benefit. The trustees consider that the charity delivers public
benefit through the promotion and dissemination of scientific knowledge. the support of
early-career researchers. and the provision of information and advice on zeolites and related
materials to the wider public and professional communitie5.
S. Artivities and Achievements During the Year
The principle aCtiVit￿e5 of the British Zeolite Association are..
Facilitation of the Association's annual scientific conference (the BZA Annual Meeting),
providing a forum for the presentation and discussion of current research in zeolite and
ordered nanoporous materials science.
Provision of bursaries to support postgraduate students and ear￿-career researchers in
attending nation31 and international conferences to present their work.
Provision of free advice and information, where appropriate, to the public and other bodies
regarding zeolites and related materials.
The BZA Annual Meeting was held at the Ambleside Campus of the University of Cumbria. 2-5
July 2024.

Travel Bursaries- after the financial losses associated with organizing FEZA2020 (which was
cancelled due to the COVIO-19 global pandemic and then took place on-line in 20211, travel
bursarie5 were suspended indefinitely bythe committee. No travel Bursaries were provided for
the financial year 2024-2025.
The trustees consider these activitie5 to have contributed directly to the advancement of
education and research and to the wider dissemination of scientific knowledge in the field.

6. Financial Review
The trustees monitored the charity's financial position throughout the year and ensured that
resources were applied solely in furtheran￿ of the charity's objertivÈs.
At the time of preparation of thls report, the final accounts for the year ended 31 March 2025
were subjertto independent examination. The trustees will Submit the approved accounts and
annual return to the Charity Commission in accordance with statutory requirements.
For the year ending 31 March 2024:
Total income: £35,768.07
Total Expenditure: £26,829.00
The charity recorded a net Surplus of £8,939.07.
The BZA does not have a f ixed value reserves policy.
7. Plans for Future PerTods
In the coming year, the trustees intend to continue the core activities of the Association,
including the organisation of its annual scientific meeting, return to the provision of bursaries to
supportstudents and early-careerresearchers, and the promotion of education and research in
zeolite science. The trusteeswill also continue to explore opportunitie5 to broaden engagement
with academia and industry while remaining fully aligned with the charity's objects.
8. Statement of Trustees, Responsibilities
The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees, Annual Report and the financial
st3tements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards.
The trustees are required to keep adequate accounting records that disclose with reasonable
accuracy the financial position of the charity at any time and enable them to ensure that the
finanoal statements comply with the Charities Act 2011. They are also responsible for
safeguarding the assets of the charity and for taking reasonable steps forthe prevention and
detection of fraud and other irregularities.

## **Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of the BRITISH ZEOLITE ASSOCIATION** 

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the British Zeolite Association (the Trust) for the year ended 31 March 2025. 

## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

## **Independent examiner’s statement** 

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or 

2. the accounts do not accord with those records. 

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
