## 2024

## CHAIRMAN’S ANNUAL REPORT

2024 is a year the association would want to forget in haste but still hold on to the memories of the loved members we lost. It is a year punctuated with grief upon grief.

In January we lost our very Mrs Pamela Hunt – the grandmother of the RFHKPA; she graced our annual tea parties with her charm and collected money for the association regularly. Linda Elgahawi another helper at the tea parties and very active member also bowed out and was followed by Caroline Ryan who was also an active member and had great interest in the transplant games. Tess Harris of the PKD was also lost. In August, we were informed of the passing of our Life President Mr David Myers BEM.

David was the chairman of the association for many years, became a governor of the trust and the chair of the Royal Free Hospital’s Organ Donation committee, He produced our newsletters and was the force behind the association’s website and our membermojo register. His work was recognised and was awarded BEM. As if it wasn’t enough, Professor Ben Walsh also left us. Professor Stephen (Ben) Walsh worked with NASA researching health impact on Mars.

The RFHKPA and the Renal department are currently working on how to remember David Myers legacy and you will be informed in due course.

## DONATIONS:

Thanks to our regular direct debit donors who kept our donations flowing until we had a substantial donation left by will which pushed our donations up.

## PURCHASES & SUPPORT:

We supported numerous patients financially due to the cost-of-living crisis and bought items for several patients e.g. weighing machine, freezer and washing machine/tumble dryer. An ice-machine was bought and installed at the Mary Rankin unit.

We also supported the Psychology department to send a couple of their staff for training and the PD team to hold 2 education day events.

The association funded our Day Trip and the Tea Party as well as Christmas party within the units.

We referred 9 patients to our Camden Service for help with housing and benefits applications. Four patients were sent to the Kidney Care UK for help with their electricity bills and 8 patients were also sent there for help with their holidays.

## MEETINGS ATTENDED:

I attended Mortality Surveillance & End of Life Care Group with Funmi Lawal, NKF meetings with Caryl Bryant , Mary Rankin site search meetings, Patient Partnership Group and the North Middlesex and the Royal Free London proposed merger meeting, DHL transport meetings and RF/KPA meeting.

Our relationship with the renal department is very strong and we are involved with research and reviewing leaflets/ documents to be sent out to patients. We are invited to join in decisions that affects renal patients.

As mentioned earlier, our donations were down till we had a huge one from one individual; I will still appeal to you to think of us when making donations. We are not allergic to small donations and any amount will be welcomed.

My thanks to the trustees who once again failed to buckle down in the face of very depressing situations. Thank you, Caryl, Jill , Peter, Louis, Patricia and Funmi, for helping to deliver very meaningful assistance to our members who needed it.

Apart from the financial support I have asked for; I will also appeal for volunteers to take over from aging trustees and fill the gaps left by those who have passed. Anyone who wants to volunteer can call me on 07766355047 / 07359497044 or send e-mail to rfhkpa3@gmail.com.

## New patients are reminded to register their membership at:

https://membermojo.co.uk/rfhkpa.

NB: Those who are not able to access or use a computer can call me on any of the numbers above for a paper version to fill in to register.

Thanks to all those who helped in different ways to support the association. Thanks to all our donors for helping us to provide financially to our fellow patients who needed assistance. And special thanks to all our consultants, nurses, dieticians, pharmacists, admin staff and support workers for helping us on our journey to a better quality of life.

I will at this point ask you kindly to bow your head for a two-minute silence for all those named above and other patients who passed as well without our knowing.

Dear Sir or Madame, RFHKPA

I am writing to confirm the accounts and annual report have been uploaded for the period October 23 to September 24.

Please accept my apologies for running late with the submission. I moved home and the post office redirect did not work for the Bank statements as they only have my address not my name. The bank proved very difficult to obtain duplicate copies.

In addition, the Accountant used for verification has been impossible to contact. I have just received an email from his assistant confirming he is too ill to work.

I have just engaged an alternative Accountant who has undertaken to complete his work next week. I will upload the confirmation as soon as I have it.

Yours faithfully

P V Czwartos
