1ST RICHMOND (ST MATTHIAS) SCOUT GROUP TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2020 –2021

Our Scout Group is a member of the Scout Association and it is our aim to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. This is done by providing a scheme of progressive training, based on the scout promise and law, and guided by adult leadership.

This has been a difficult year due to Coronavirus but our wonderful Leaders have continued to provide a variety of activities for each Section online via Zoom.

We are very grateful to all those parents who have continued to support us during these difficult times by continuing to pay the reduced termly subs, and in a lot of cases, have paid the top up amount as well. However, we also completely understand that some children have not been able to continue to take part in these online activities and we hope they will return to joining in with us once face to face Scouting is back to ‘normal’ – whatever the new ‘normal’ will be.

Financially, the Group is doing well – our termly subs were down 35%, our Gift Aid payment was down 44%, and we were not able to do any of our usual fundraising such as the May Fair and Ham Fair, but we were very lucky to receive some Grants from Richmond Council which were given to local community groups and businesses. These grants helped to offset our loss of income.

Of course there have been no camping activities this year due to Coronavirus and these have been greatly missed by the Leaders and all our young people.

As stated before, we are only able to operate so successfully due to the many hours of hard work put in by our Section Leaders and our Executive Committee members. We are always looking for additional help in helping to run the various Sections, and additionally we always need new enthusiastic Committee members to help with the general running of the Group.
