Achievements and Performance Charitable activities. We continued lo provide support for renal patients treated al Addenbrooke's Hospital Renal Department" in the Dialysis Centre, its thTee satcllitc units and transplant wards. Durtr)g this financial year we funded.. Welfare services.. Our expenditure on welfare and dialysis holiday awards to sick and needy patients totallcd £18,227. These awards are approved by two t￿slee5 following recommendations by the Renal Social Worker. PAtientsY Christmas Parties'_ The usual Christmas buffets for patients receiving treathient over the c}￿lstmas period at CDC and satellite units was cancelled due to continuing Covid precautions. In place of these the charity fimded Christmas presents for all those dialysing over Christmas at a cost of £635. AKPA is atTiliated to the National Kithley Federation (NKF) who provide inforniation and represent patients at a national level. AKPA subscriptions for this affiliation are CULTently defe]Ted by our participation in the NKF national raftle. Advertising and Publieity: Further development of our website at a cost of £1.508. Content creation and updating will be done by ttvstees. The work of writing and editing our newsletter is done free of charge by another trustee, although the layout and printing are paid for. Other fundraising activities organis¢d by patients and their families raised a tota] of £8,343. The Association is fortunate in having many voluntary fundraisers, none of our ftmdraisers are paid for their work and we are very grateful to them. Income from websites sucb as JustGiving.¢om and easyFundraising, and regular donations through Standing Orders are both significant sour¢¢s of income. Income from donations totalled £4,474. tncome from In Memory donations totallcd £3,857 and income earned by ow reserves invested in high interest accounts totall¢d £6,663. STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT Governing Doeument: Addenbrooke's Kidney Palients Association Ltd {the word 'Limited' being omitted by licence from the Departnlent of Trade) is registered as a ¢ompany limited by guarantee and not having a capital divided by shares. The company was incorporated on 9 October 1978 and is a registered charity constituted as a Limited Company under the Memorandum and Articles of Association. The charity registration number is 277236 and the company registration numbcr is 01393034. Recrnltment and appointment of Trustees: the Irusttts are elected at thc Annual G¢n¢ral Meeting in line with AKPA policy. New tn￿teeS are invit¢d to stand for clection or by introduction through services or by direct recNitment. The selection process includes an analysis of skills required by the board, interviews with the Director and Chair of the board and attendance at the board meeting followed by a review. The Trustees have no beneficial interest in the company other than as members. The Trustees are also the directors ofthe Company. All of the Trustees ar¢ m¢mbers of the company and guaTantcc to eontributc £1 in event of winding up. The Directors of the organisation are also the charity tTh￿te¢s for tb¢ purposes of Ch￿lty law. Trustee induction and tralnfing: new ttustees receiv¢ an induction pack outlining their responsibilities and duties a]]d meet individually with Chair as part of their induction. Trustees review the risks to which the organisation is exposed on a regular basis, documenting the potential impact of each risk, recording actions planned to reduce the potential impact of risks and Monitoring progress in the minutes. FINANCIAL REVIEW Prin¢ipal Funding Sources: Cu￿ent principal funding sources are fundraising activities. donations, legacies and interest from reserves, as detailed above. Inv¢$tm¢nt powers and policy: Under the Memorandum and Articles of Association, the charity hks the power to make any investment which the tn￿tee8 see fit. The trustees have considered th¢ most appropriate policy for investing funds and have found that cash deposits meet their requirements to generate income. Reserves poll¢y: The Directors and TnLStees consider it prudent to maintain an adequate l¢v¢l of unrestricted reserves to cover Commitments and provide sufficient working capital. The receipt of legacies in recent years has boosted our reserves. The charity will continue to seek projects thal are important to the wellbeing of kithiey palients treafrd by Addenbrooke's Hospital to ulilise fi￿d5 cuNently held in our reserves. The Directors consider that the Charity's reserves are at a level that will allow the charity to continue providing senyices for the foreseeable and to allow them to enhance the services provided should ￿tUre donations allow. The reserves held in unrestricted funds, which have not been designated or invested in fixed assets, at the 3 1st Marcb 2024 were £223,298 (2023: £264,446). FtrruRE ACTIVITIES The AKPA Board htss discussed work that it would like to progress over 2024125. AKPA will seek to facilitate and ￿rther improve services and activities as follows. Conilnued funding of smart phones at a cost of £2,335 p.a. for use by the Dialysis Patient Counsellors, specialist Nurses and selected vulnerable patients. These have proved invaluable for communication between Nursing Staff, Counsellors and vulnerable patients. Ultrasound Scanners at a cost of £l1.341 for CDC and Kings Lynn dialysis centres.
