## Trustees’ Annual Report for the period 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021

## **1[ST ] COLNEY HEATH SCOUT GROUP**

Charity registration no. 276951

Contact address: Little Croft, Roestock Lane, Colney Heath, St Albans, Herts AL4 0QW

## Governance & Management

1[st] Colney Heath Scout Group is a registered member of the UK Scout Association (Reg no. 10009915), which is governed by the Scout Association Royal Charter 1912.

St Albans Scout District oversees the running of Colney Heath Scout Group and all other Scout Groups in this part of Hertfordshire. This enables the Groups to share information and advice.

Trustees for Colney Heath Scout Group are recruited from Section leaders, parents, and other supporters within the local community. All Section Leaders and Trustees are volunteers. During the current financial year, the following people served as Trustees: Caroline Kawandami, Tricia Hall, Peter Gough, David Gough, Thomas Llewellin, Sarah Summerfield, Lorna Connery & Ben Clewett (from 1 Jan 2021). The Trustees have continued to hold monthly meetings via Zoom.

## Objectives and Activities

“Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society”. (The Scout Association).

Colney Heath Scout Group aims to help young people be doers, thinkers, askers and leaders. Every week our team of volunteers gives them the chance to have fun, experience adventure, and learn skills for life. The Group holds weekly meetings during term times for Beavers, Cubs & Scouts, for boys & girls aged 6-14. The Group also organises nights away / camping trips.

The Group’s plan is to continue to grow, become more inclusive, encourage our young people to develop leadership skills, and continue to increase our involvement in the local community.

## Achievements & Performance

During the year there were two Covid lockdowns, plus restrictions on meeting numbers, or on meeting indoors. However the Group continued to provide meetings, with many activities taking place online via Zoom, or outdoors when permitted. The year was an enormous success for all involved, with particular benefit to children’s mental health during the lockdowns.

## Financial Review:

The Group’s finances remain strong despite minimal subs being collected during the year, and traditional fundraising activities being unable to take place, both due to Covid. With the help of grants, the Group have raised over £30k towards the refurbishment of the Scout Hut, in order to renew the lease.

The Trustees declare that they have approved the Trustees report above.
