## **Minutes of AGM : 13 February 2025** **Present: John Boaler, Carole Browne, Genevieve Sioka, Jas Douglas, Jemimah Palfreyman, John Spiller, Anne Davey.** **Brett Dean, Andy Totman, Lydia Graham, Paul Ogden, Steve Walters.** **Carole thanked everyone for attending and introduced each committee member noting their role on the Committee. She also welcomed our new Patron, Brett Dean, and Paul and Steve both from Wordfest.** **Apologies: Kristy Jones, Emma Hazlewood, David Gillett ( Calne Choral), Dina Lavadera, Joy Tickell, Helen Simmonds, Caroline Dalrymple, Jane Bowker-Praed.** **Minutes of AGM 2024 passed with no actions required. Treasurer’s Report: the Financial statement for the 2024 Festival was circulated. The balance at the end of the year stood at £21,805.18. Since the audit Hill’s grant of £1000 has been received. The whole of the Council grant for the Pig Project has not been used so it is possible that a certain sum may have to be repaid or whether it can be kept for expenses this year. Emma is investigating. David Hubbard to be thanked for auditing the accounts, which he happily does each year . Art Director’s report: Genevieve spoke about the Art Exhibition and the increase both in paintings exhibited and commissions. The catalogues were sold out at £1 each but many payments were made into the Donation boxes, or on a card added to a purchase from the bar or refreshments, so the exact sum cannot be accounted for. According to the Financial** **statement, the Net amount raised by Art activities = £2148.59. Genevieve also spoke about the success of the Pig Project and the amount of exposure it gave to the Festival in the community. The use of the Heritage Centre for an exhibition of sculpture or other work was discussed. It has been booked for the duration of this years Festival. Genevieve has undertaken much of the graphic design work herself which has saved time and money. The same printer was used this year for the Brochure.** **’ Friends Report: Anne reported a total of 201 Friends with 14 new Friends in 2024. The total income = £2270. Anne reported that many Friends only subscribe for one year and do not set up a Standing Order.** **’ Chairman s Report: John Boaler reported on the highlights of the 2024 Festival and the success of the Pig Project ( idea conceived by Genevieve for a community project to mark the 50[th] anniversary). He particularly thanked John Spiller and Mark Peskett for all their help in transporting the pigs and helping to set up the exhibition both in the Heritage Centre and the Town Hall. He thanked Lydia Graham, who is not a member of the Committee, for her almost 10am – 5pm presence at Marden House during Festival week and for her help with the Art Exhibition and the lunchtime catering. He also thanked, most profusely, each member of the Committee for their valuable contribution to the Festival.** **Election of Committee: There being no requests to stand down, the present members were returned unopposed. There were no proposals for new members. John Boaler mentioned that Mark Peskett would be a very valuable member of the Committee and he will approach him on the matter.** **Programme 2025: Carole briefly outlined the events booked for this year , the programme following a familiar pattern with the Family Day, a Sunday afternoon concert, life drawing, a piano and flute recital, a trumpet recital, Evensong, a Folk evening, a Jazz evening, the Opera ( Cosi Fan Tutti), a photographic talk, an art talk, Calne Choral, and an evening of the spoken word to include Wordfest, Calne Drama School and the poet Saili Katebe. Andy regretted that the Primary School Choir event was not scheduled despite the fact that John Bolaer had had a meeting at KGA to elicit support. The main reason is the lack of enthusiasm from the schools and the fact that none of the people who have been approached to run the event have agreed to do so. Andy will contact choir/singing teachers who he knows to see if this event could be resurrected. Carole can discuss the format with anyone interested. Genevieve noted the fact that most local primary schools send a class of children each year to the O2 for a national massed choir performance. Andy would like to see some dancing/a dancer at the Tango evening. Carole is to ask the group their opinion on this bearing in mind that room on the stage is limited and that a dancer is not normally a part of their programme. Andy to be updated on this. Brett is organising the Wednesday evening concert with a quartet made up of the cellist Adrian Rendall, Mio the violinist from the Isla Quartet, Mark Sandon-Williams on piano and himself on viola.It will be on the lines of One-Two-Three-Four : one being solo violin, two cello and piano, three the string trio and four the whole quartet. Carole will need the details, blurb and photo by the end of March latest for the brochure and website preparation.** **A.O.B : Jemimah asked where we were on the Safeguarding requirements which , as a Charity, we are obliged to update. Emma has worked hard to produce much of what is required and was thanked for her work. Jemimah, would be happy to take on the role of ‘ Safeguarding Officer’ for the Festival, a role she already does for Pride.** **The meeting closed at 9.15pm** **PS.
