## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 AUGUST 2025**

The trustees are pleased to present their annual report together with the financial reports of the charity for the year ending 31 August 2025.

## **Principal Activity**

The Croydon Bach Society’s principal activity during the year continued to be the study and public performance of choral music.

## **Review of the Year**

This year, we held three concerts, all of a very high standard, as well as a very successful and wellattended Come and Sing day. We were also honoured to take part in the London Mozart Players’ Christmas concert. There follows a list of our events during the year:

|7 December 2024|Charpentier’s_Messe de Minuit pour Noel_, Finzi’s_In Terra Pax_, Britten’s|
|---|---|
||_A Ceremony of Carols_and Vaughan Williams’_Fantasia on Christmas_|
||_Carols_|
|14 December 2024|Christmas concert as guests of the London Mozart Players|
|22 March 2025|Elgar’s_The Dream of Gerontius_|
|10 May 2025|Come and Sing: Bach’s_Mass in B Minor_(choruses)|
|21 June 2025|Elgar’s_The Music Makers,_Chilcott’s_A Little Jazz Mass,_Vaughan|
||Williams’_Five Mystical Songs,_Chilcott’s_Songs and Cries of London_|
||_Town_|

The most substantial of these concerts was the one held in March, for which we engaged the Lambeth Orchestra.

Although none of our concerts generated a surplus when considering event costs against ticket income, we are able to continue presenting them thanks to the vital support of membership subscriptions and donations. We are especially grateful to the Humphrey Richardson Taylor Charitable Trust for their generous grant of £3,000, and to Professor Elizabeth Kuipers for her remarkable Living Legacy gift of £10,000 in May 2024, which continues to support the engagement of professional soloists.

Like many choral societies, our membership numbers are much lower than pre-COVID. The drop in the number of members has inevitably led to lower ticket sales. We do, however, remain financially viable and are committed to continuing to provide a valuable musical outlet for both our members and our audiences.
