The Aim of The Scout Assooation is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intelwual, social and spirtlual potentials, as indivKluals, as responsible citizens and as rnem￿rs of their local national and intemational communrties. The method of achieving the Aim of the Association is by Kmviding an enjoyable and attractive scheme of progressive training, based on the Scout Promise and Law and guided by adutt leadership. Summary of the maln actfvithos In relation to these objectives The Group's main function is to support the Sections ¢Thnprising Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and SGOLrts in achieving the aims of the Scout Association. These Sections within the Group continued to provide weekly meetings for approximately 90-100 young people between the age of 4 and 14,12 years. giving them fun. challenge and adventure through the Scout Assoctation training programme appropriate to their age. Activities are provided appropriate for the Sections including adivtties such as Cooking, model making, painting, team games, quizzes, mapping. archery and outdoor activities weather permitting All Sections can also get involved in camping or oth8r outdoor activi1￿$/ChaIIengeS through the year. Several Adutt Leaders. Young Leaders. helpers and other skills Instructors provide their time generously on a voluntary unpaKI basis to support th8 Scout Association Training Programme. PubllclPrlvate Benefit Subscriptions are charged for membership of Groups and Explorer Unts in the District to cover immediate running costs and these do not unduly restrict membership. The Group follows the principle that no one should be exduded because of their inats'lity to pay membership subscriptions. In the Group two key principles demonstrate that Scouting aims are for the public benèftt. These are thal through the Scout method young people develop towards their full potential and that there is a clear link betsveen the benefrts for young Feople and the wrpose of Scouting. Any private beneffts from Scouting are incidental, other than to those as a beneficiary. The safety of young people is taken very seriously, wrth mandatory training modules including safeguarding and safety for adult leaders and helpers. Section D Achievements and rforniance Summary of the main achlevements of the Charlty during the year The Group undertook a number of activits'es in support of the local communrty. This includes the major fund-raising effort of the Christmas Postal servi￿ operated jointly in Swindon and the surrounding towns and villages wrth the Scout Groups of Swindon North.

Support has also been provided at local sd)ool and church fetes with stalls manned by volunteers and young people from the Sections. Section E Financlal ￿vIeW Policy on Reserves The Group policy on reserves is to hokl sufficient resources to continue the charitable activities of the Group should incoffe and fundraising activrties fall short. The Trustee Board considers that the Group should hold a sum equivalent to 12 months running costs, representing approximately £10,000 This is Considered sufficient to cover insurance, utilities, membership payments, badges, unrformslmalerials, activiti8s and essential building maintenance. In addition. as the ScoLrt Group owns the Scout building, V￿ are responsible for maintenance and essential repairs to ensure that it remains safe and available for meetings. Whilst insurance cover is held against full rebuilding costs, loss of use of the building would incur additional rental Gosts for use of communty buildings by Sections for meetings. plus loss of income from rental of our building. In addition. the Group holds additional funds in a long-term savings account to cover essential or unexpected building maintenanrk that would not be covered by insurance. The Group holds excess free reserves against both these issues at year-end. Further financlal reviow detalls The Group does not have sufficient funds to invest in longer tenn investments. The Group has therefore adopted a risk averse strategy to the investment of its fuThls. All funds are h8ld in cash using only mainstream banks or building societs'es.
