scout building and contents.

Section C Objectives and activities
Summary of the objectives of the charity as set out in its governing document
The objective of the Group is as a untt of the Scout Association.
The Aim of The Scout Association is to promote the development of young people in achieving their
full physical. intellectual, social and spirrtual potenkn'als. as individuals, as responsible citizens and
as members of their local national and intemational communrties. The method of achieving the Aim
of the Association is by providing an enjoyable and attrathve s¢heme of progressive training, based
on the Scout Promise and Law and guided by adult leadership.
Summary of the main activities in relatlon to these objectlves
The Group's main function is to SLSPPOrt the Sections comprising Beavers, Cubs and Scouts
achieving the aims of the Scout Association.
These Sections within the Group continued to provide weekly meetings for approximately 80-90
young people between the age of 6 and 14 years. giving them fun. challenge and adventure
through the Scout Association Training Programme appropnate to their age Activities are provided
appropriate for the Sections including activities such as cooking, model making, painting, team
games, quizzes. mapping, archery and outdoor activtties v￿ather pemiitting. All Sections can also
get involved in camping or other outdoor adivitiesl¢hallenges through the year.
Several Adult Leaders, Young Leaders, Helpers and other Skills Instructors provide their time
generously on a voluntary unpaid basis to support the Scout Association Training Programme.
PubliclPrivats Benefft
Subscriptions are charged for membership of Groups and Explorer Unrts in the District to cover
immediate running costs aTrJ these do nol unduly restrict membership. The Group follows the
principle that no one should be excluded t*cause of their inability to pay membership
subscr]ptions.
In the Group two key principles demonstrate that Scouting aims are for the public benefit. These
are that through the Scout methi)d young people develop torwards their full potential and that there
is a clear link between the benefrts for young people and the purpose of Scouting. The safety of
young people is taken very seriously and the beneffts Scoub'ng activities provide far outweigh the
risks. Any pnvate beneffts from ScoLrting are incidental. other than to those as a beneficiary.
Section D Achievements and perfomiance

The Group undertook a numbèr of actNities in support of the local communty. This includes the
major fund-raising efft)rt of the Chnstmas Postal servi￿ operated join￿Y in Swindon and the

Policy on Reserves
The Group policy on reserves is to hold sufficient resources to continue the charttable activrties of
the Group should income and fundraising actNities fall short. The Group Executive Committee
considers that the group should hold a sum equivalent to 12 months running costs, representing
approximately £10.000 {covers memtership fees, insurance. uts'lrties, badges. unifoms, allowance
for building repairs bul no activib'es).
The Group holds excess free reserves against this amount at year-end.
Further financial rèview details
The Group does not have sufficient funds to invest in longer tem investments. The Group has
therefore adopted a risk averse strategy to the investment of its funds. All funds are held in cash
using only mainstream banks or building societies.
