Burgess Hill Choral Society 202412025
The aim of Burgess Hill Choral Society (BHCS), as set out in its Constitution, is to advance
education In the art and science of music by the presentation of public Col)￿rts and other
activities.
This aim has been met over the last year in very successful concerts which have attracted
sizeable audiences and received very positive reviews. In December 2024 the Society
performed Saint-saèns Chnstmas Oraton"o, chi1c0￿S On Christmas Night. Fauré's Cantique de
Jean Racine and Bryd 's O Magnum Mysterium as well as carols for choir and audience.
In April 2025 the choir perf0m￿l Schubert's Mass in E Flat Major. Soloists from the Royal
Academy of Music were engaged for these concerts and we were accompanied by a full
orchestra. Feedback suggests that such events are highly valued for their contribution to k)cal
music making.
In addition to these concerts, the Society hosted a successful Come and Sing Day in June 2025
when there was a focus on choruses from Orfs Carmina Burana. This event was well attended
by cholr members themselves and other local singers.
A range of social events, Includlng, for example a Brlng and Share evenlng and annual dinner.
were held throughout the season and these events have added much to the life of the Society.
BHCS continues to enjoy sound membership figures and is led by a strong committee with a
clear focus on the firm govemance of BHCS. We are very pleased to retain the services of
Michael Stefan Wood BEM as our musical director and Jonathan Summers OAM as our
President.
The priorities for the current Season are to malntaln our hlgh 8tsndards in performance, continue
to grow the Society's membership and its aUd￿nCe at concerts as well as sustain the group's
sound financial status.
