work of both ￿￿blished and d¢v¢loping cornposer5 artists through the p￿roMI81￿C of thoral wo￿$ and
other musical activities.

Having reglrd io the Charity C(xnmission's public b￿¢fil guidaN& the TnLst￿s aim tomaintain maniyrship
numbers to rdise sufficient ￿n￿8 to a)able the hiring of professional orchesttas and soloists while keeping the
prices of conLert tickets affonlable. Th￿ public concerts We￿ perfomied in 2023-24.. one with a quartet of
pn)fessional soloists and baroque 0￿h¢St￿ in tkcemlrr 2023. one a Christm&s concert in support of local
charities and giving a young lool oixjist an oprx)rtunity lo ￿fOrnI in public. and one in May 2if24 involving
a ptDf¢ssional bwitone soloist and organtsL

The Society does t￿1 no[￿allY make grants. However, the Socidy may ￿roMi Christttths concths with profils
designated to SUPEX)rt local dwities. All other income is applied ioward5 the promotion of the objects of the
So¢i¢ty &8 5tataJ aEK)ve.
The general running ofthe Sixiety,including income fr(xn [nemI￿[s. subscripti¢*￿ dottttions and fimd-rdising
activities and the costs of wLtkEy rehearsals, gave rise to a nel surplus of £5:335 (2022-23 surplus £7,150:
though the latter additionally included 2021-22 Gift Aid of £l(A131 The [￿ltive surplus reflects the genLYally
applied policy of planning for SUTpluses in the day-to&y running ofthe Soctety to offs& some concert cosL%
thereby helping to keep LvncuÈ ticket prices at an affordable level a￿1 maintain ￿dIe￿eS.
As part of the annual planning process. the Trustees constder Lwefulty the costs &%sociatal with the pwwjsed
con¢ert PTDgramme4 taking account of the level of fillxls brought forward and the Society's Reserve Policy.
While tEsetves may ￿ allowed to rise or fall in any year derknding on the nathre of the concert progrdmmes
perfornied. over the medium terni the Society seeks to maintsin a reserve equivalent approximately to half a
year.s income. anticipat￿. the s￿Iety this year m￿e a nd loss on LxJn¢ert% amoLmting to £1.401. less
than the loss in 2022-23 (£3.438) as only a single soloist was Rquirul for the corKert of songs ptyfoTmU] in
May 2024.
The overall surplus &bieval was thus £3:933 {2022-23 Su￿￿￿5 £3.7121 raising the aCLumulated surplus
Carried forward Into next year lo £20,044 (2023.. £16.712). This increa8e in available funds has enabled the
Society to budget for an overall loss in 2024-25 with a PTogra))me of two Otcbe5trd-accompanied wnrerts.
All of the Soci¢ty""s fvnds at 31" May 2024 were unrestrictsj.
The Society Rs grateful for a grant from the josephi￿ Baker Trust towards the expe￿￿e5 &wciated with
engaging voeal soloists from the Royal College of Music for the D￿llber 2023 concer¢ a donation from a
local busin￿$ tohelp offset incre&8es in LX)rtcert cosw and a memorial donation in respect of a fonnermember.
