The objects of the Society are to adv￿¢¢ the education and appre¢iaiion of music and to offer access to the
work of both ¢stablisbed and developing comwseTS and artists through the ￿fOTrn&￿cC of choral works and

Having rcgard lo the Charity Commission's public benefit guidance, th¢ Tn￿etS al￿ to ￿￿Intain Memb￿ship
numbers to raise sufficient funds. to enable the hiring of professional orchestras and ￿l01sts whilc kccping the
pric¢s of wncert tickets affordable. I'wo publi¢ ¢on¢crt5 wcrr wformcd, each with a quartet of prolessional
soloists: in t)ecember 2022 with full orcho%tr4 and in May 2023 with organ accomEMnimenL
Grant Making policy
Thc s￿letY does not nOm￿llY make grants. However. the Society may concert5 in aid of local
¢hariti¢s. All other income is applied towards the promotion of thc objects ofthe s￿iety as stated above.

The genernl numing of the Sixiety. including membeE5' subscriptton& donatiOll5 and fimd-raising activiti￿,
gave rise io a net 5Utplus of £7,150. In addition to Gift Aid for the ¢unMt year. income included £2:603 of
Gift Aid relating to the prcvious year, claim for which had been deferred until an urdate of members. Gift Aid
declarntions h&1 I￿1 ca￿led out. Th¢ positive surplus refle£ts the generally 4)plicd w)licy of planning for
surplu5e5 in running costs to offs¢t s(￿¢ concert CO￿ thereby h¢lping to keep concert ticket pri￿$ at an

income. As anticipate￿ the S(Kiety this year made a net loss amounting to £3.438: larger than in
2021-22 due mainly to the engagement of four soloists in both concerLs and somewliat ffjluccd aLbdience sizes.
The overall SUTplus achieved was £3,712 (2021-22". surplus £3.910A rni5ing the accumulated surplus &vried
fonward into next year lo £16.712 (2021: £13.OiN>). All of the ￿lety'S funds at31" May 2023 arc unrestricted.
The 8ncietY is grateful for a grdnt from the Josephir* Baker Tn￿ towards the exr*nses &sso¢iaid with
engaging vocal soloists from the Royal Ac￿lerny of Music and the Royal College of Music for our December
onccrL and a donation from a Iwal business to hclp offset increases in concu1 costs.
During the year, the Society trnisfetrd ownership of its col￿rt staging to Ciren¢¢st¢r Parish Church. the
v¢nue of its concerts. The original o)st of the 51aging from society funds had al￿dY been fully written do￿
over 10 years and h&$ now been removed from the [￿ed assets in the balallc£ sheet

Plans for the futsre
'I'hc Society is planning two Ytgular conccrts for thc 2023-24 se&8on: one in DecuniKr and one in May. In
addition, a Christmas ConLYrt will held to rdiS¢ fimds fortwo l(Kal chariti4 at the same time providing an
opportunity for a young lo￿1 instrum¢ntalist to ￿[0[￿ in front of a publi¢ audi¢ncc.
The Cirencester Choral S￿Iety was founded in 1863 and E*came a registe￿d chaiity in 1978 (Charity No
276649). The charity is governed by the amended 2012 Governing Rules.
