Secretary’s Report
Good Evening Madam President, fellow members, parents and distinguished guests. My Secretarys report for the 2023/24 year.
The first big event of the 2023/24 year was our Christmas Tractor Run, there was a great display of fully dressed up tractors out despite the horrendous weather conditions, which thankfully didn’t put off the spectators.
The next big event was our annual highly anticipated dung sale, where we sold over 750 bags and we ended the day with a meal at the Manor House in Rilla Mill.
A couple weeks after we headed down to Newquay for the South west area weekend. Some of us had a very good weekend! Such as Ben Mawby, who eventually made it back to the hotel after a 35 minute stroll through Newquay in the early hours of Saturday morning. Will Oatey on the other hand gained a new nickname that weekend ‘the wrong will’ and also gained a bit more colour to the skin around his left eye.
Our Easter Bingo night was another success. Once again we filled Menheniot Hall and Will Lethbridge provided some great Entertainment in his playboy bunny outfit.
On the 8[th] of April DeWill and Louise travelled to Ireland to take part in the Wotnot challenge, enduring a 9 hour flight delay and walking 85 miles all in aid of The sensory trust and the sunrise appeal.
Whilst they were away we were busy with our Big Breakfast on the 13[th] of April in Menheniot Village Hall and sold an amazing 282 breakfasts!
We had a lovely local competitions day this year hosted by Nigel and Liz Bunkum, it was a very successful day with Liskeard coming 1[st] overall. Also with our ladies tug of war team and fencing team getting through to the south west area round. Additionally our cookery team went straight through to Nationals! Great efforts all round from everyone
Next up was our 85[th] anniversary summer ball at Tregondale. We had a great turnout seating over 200 people in the shed! The highlight of the night was definitely our president being lifted above our heads during the disco. Thank you to the Rowe family for the kind use of their shed.
We’ve also had some really interesting and fun club nights this year, thanks to Jordan for organising the programme. Thanks to the advisory for all your support this year whether that being making cakes or serving hot dogs and burgers at Liskeard Show!
Big Thanks to Will and all the committee who have helped organising all this years events, and good luck to the new officers in their roles!
