**TRUSTEES REPORT 2021/22**

## Structure and Management

There are 8 trustees who met on three occasions during the year. The trustees include a member from each of the three main community service clubs in the town. All members of the Friends are advised of trustees meetings and are entitled to attend by advising the Secretary in advance. Only the trustees have voting rights at these meetings. Where urgent decisions are required between meetings the Chairman will circulate all trustees and a majority decision will be established which will be formally recorded at the next meeting. The Annual General Meeting is held in March each year. The date is advertised in the local press and members of the public are entitled to attend. The number of trustees is limited to eight and a replacement trustee is appointed by agreement with the seven existing trustees. The written Constitution was reviewed and rewritten to take into account the changes in health care both within the hospital and the wider community.

## Objectives and Activities

To support Frome Community Hospital, its facilities, patients, staff and visitors and to provide support relating to health matters for individuals and the local community as a whole. The charity benefited from a number of bequests over the 12 months and in furthering its activities it relies on donations and a minor fundraising activities. It has also benefited from the fact that a substantial Donated Fund is held for the hospital in the Taunton & Somerset Foundation Trust General Charitable Fund .

Activities were fairly limited in 2021/22. Income was up considerably, on the previous year due largely to a bequest of £80,000. The Community Defibrillator Scheme has continued to expand and the Trustees are looking at some possible further installations. A Defibrillator Maintenance Fund is in existence in order that units installed can be kept in operational condition. New installations are partly funded by residents in the locality with the Trust making up the difference. The team of ‘guardians’ under the leadership of a Trustee undertakes the regular checks necessary for recognition by the Ambulance Service.

The separate Birthing Centre fund of has been reduced due to expenditure on various items of equipment and the Trustees are at present looking at further possible expenditure in this area.

The hospital now has new Matron and the Trustees are looking forward to working with him on various area which are considered in need of improvement. A start has been made with the outside furniture being refurbished by members of a local charity and there has been refurbishment of the furniture in the ’waiting areas’.

## The Future

The Friends are well set up financially and will continue to support the Community Hospital and all attempts to provide health and social care in the local community .
