We welcome you here and thank you for attending. Please note that the IAC Board of Trustees has scheduled this year's AGM earlier than usual to shorten the time gap between the annual financial report and the trustees' report. It gives me great pleasure to present to you this Trustee report underlining all the activities and aims that we were able to accomplish during this current term endeavouring to fulfil the main objectives of our charity, including: - Humanitarian: Providing help and support to the needy and the ill. - Cultural: Raising the level of cultural awareness by supporting various cultural activities in the United Kingdom. - Educational: Providing management and finance for Dr. Esmat Al-Said School which represent the core of the activities of the charity. Trustees Report For Year-end June 2024 ## **Achievements and Performance** In accordance with the IAC objectives, it has been possible to carry out the following activities and projects for the year ended 1st of October 2023. 1. Supporting the Spafford Children’s Center ## Summary: The Spafford Children’s Centre, a charitable institution founded in 1925 in the Old City of Jerusalem, began as an orphanage and quickly expanded into a children's hospital to address the medical needs of the era. By 1970, following changes in the political landscape, SCC evolved into an outpatient centre, allowing it to serve the local community more effectively. In 1987, the Centre introduced a comprehensive range of services for both mothers and children, a practice that continues to this day. Since its inception, SCC has been at the forefront of providing a holistic approach to child health and empowerment, offering psychological, social, and educational support to children in East Jerusalem who face challenging socio-economic conditions. ## Amount: After a thorough due diligence process, the trustees have approved a donation of £1000 to The Spafford Children’s Center through the UK-based Friends of Spafford Children’s Centre Charity (registered Charity Number 802351). ## Trustees Report For Year-end June 2024 ## Achievement: This donation will support the services provided by The Spafford Children’s Centre to 450-500 traumatised children each year, who have been affected by the political violence in East Jerusalem. The Centre offers remedial education, speech therapy, play therapy, and various psycho-social empowerment activities that promote the children's well-being and development within a structured and protective framework. The Spafford Children's Centre is dedicated to bringing healing, hope, and prosperity to Palestinian children and their families in East Jerusalem by delivering programs and services that enhance health in mind, body, and spirit. ## 2. Supporting FQMS’s Undergraduate Scholarship Program ## Summary: The Al-Quds Foundation for Medical Schools in Palestine (FQMS) is a UK-based charity founded in 1997 to advance medical education in Palestine. FQMS focuses on enhancing Palestinian medical education and postgraduate training by partnering with medical schools and collaborating with local and international charities. Their programs aim to improve the quality and diversity of teaching available at Palestinian medical schools. FQMS’s initiatives include postgraduate medical training in the UK, international training placements, teaching fellowships, medical equipment provision, and undergraduate scholarships. Their vision is for a future where Palestinian healthcare is self-sufficient, backed by excellent medical education. Trustees Report For Year-end June 2024 ## Amount: Following a thorough due diligence process, the trustees approved a donation of £6000 to FQMS’s Undergraduate Scholarship Program. This donation is intended to cover the tuition fees for exceptional medical students facing financial difficulties. ## Achievements: This donation will support Mustafa, a second-year medical student at Al-Najah University in Nablus, Palestine. Through our partnership with FQMS, this funding will help cover his tuition fees, enabling him to continue his education and contribute to the future of Palestinian healthcare. ## **IAC School** ## Dr. Esmat Al-Said School ## Summary: The International Arab Charity (IAC) places particular emphasis on the continual monitoring and steadfast support of Dr. Esmat Al-Said School, demonstrating a resolute commitment to its sustainability and developmental progress. This school occupies a vital role among our charitable projects, aligning seamlessly with our core objectives, which revolve around the advancement of education, the promotion of Arabic language and culture, and the fulfilment of the needs of the Arab community residing within the United Kingdom. ## Note from the Head teacher: The primary aim of Dr. Esmat Al-Said Arabic School is to instil the Arabic language and culture in our students. This can be a challenging task, especially ## Trustees Report For Year-end June 2024 for those of us who have chosen the United Kingdom as our new home. Our mission is to nurture a deep understanding and pride in Arabic identity among our students, while also enhancing their language proficiency. As the head teacher, I am dedicated to creating the best possible environment for our children to learn the Arabic language and connect with others who share their cultural background. Our school is regarded as one of the best Arabic schools in London, praised by both current parents and those considering transferring their children to our institution in September. This recognition is a testament to the quality of our teaching and the high standards of our learning environment. We adhere to all government requirements regarding safeguarding and Health & Safety. I serve as the designated safeguarding lead and completed the appropriate training upon my appointment. All staff members undergo safeguarding training every September, and this year, they also completed PREVENT training. Our team includes two trained first aiders, myself included. Additionally, I am in the process of completing the Safer Recruitment course, which is a government requirement for recruiting staff. Amount: (Please refer to the financial report) Achievements: Our growth in student enrolment is a clear indicator that we are moving in the right direction. When I was appointed in January 2024, the number of students was 169. Now, it stands at 185. Notable achievements in the past year include exceptional results in the Arabic GCSE examinations. Nearly all students in the GCSE class achieved the highest grade of 9, and we anticipate similar, if not better, results for all students who took GCSEs this academic year. Additionally, the school has actively engaged in a variety of extracurricular activities, including: Trustees Report For Year-end June 2024 - An impressive exhibition held on 8th June 2024, showcasing our students’ academic progress and their interest in Arabic culture and history. - A productive Parents Meeting convened on 6th February 2024. - An engaging Assembly and End-of-Year Party scheduled for 13th July 2024. These achievements reflect our commitment to excellence in education and cultural enrichment. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our school's success. ## **Financial Review:** Year on year from 1st February 23 to 31st January 24, our assets our total reserves down from £526,104 in 2023 to £497,734 this year. This decrease is accounted for by: - 1- an increase in donations from £10,200 to £22,700 this year - 2- a £10,000 drop in school income (student fees) to £62,000 this year - 3- an £8700 loss on sale of shar es The value of the investments is up this year from £385,726 in 2023 to £389,560, and my recommendation is to continue investing our portfolio with Canaccord Genuity as the funds are incurring growth in a cautious portfolio, and mainly because of the liquidity, meaning we can access the funds at short notice to use for donations as and when project needs arise. Donations: as mentioned above, these are up by £12,500 year on year. The trustees have sustained the charity over many years with a cautious financial investment strategy to safeguard the future of the charity, whilst always being careful to ensure the funds are available at short notice to use for upcoming projects. Supporting the worthy projects that meet our criteria and giving a stable base to our IAC School is our purpose, and we hope to continue to meet our objectives with diligence and compassion.
