Secretary's Report 2024-25 And that's the year 24125 completel There have been some great successes, along with challenges, but with Lowri, Tom and those who have supported us, we have made it through the year. thin the first few weeks of the club year, we were straight at it with the first event of the year.. the Westem Area Ploughing Match, held at Ardensawah Farm, at the end of October. Members pulled together to provide items and help set up two Home and Farm Produce displays. Many thanks to Chris Hosken and Mike Webb for providing all the home grown vegetables. Our Annual Bonfire and Firework evening started the fundraising calendar. This year it was kindly hosted by Dan and Zeinab Rowe at Methleigh Farm. A well attended event and the weather was perfect, with clear skies and no rain. Thanks to everyone who helped out. be it car parking, setting off the fireworks, cooking the burgers or generally making sure that everyone had an enjoyable evening. A special thanks to Tom Rule for his firework expertise. The club attended the West Indoor Sports Round and qualified for the final. The final was held at Treviglas Sports Hub. The members who attended were really pleased when the club qualified for the final and were even more delighted when we wonl We were proud to have Maddy Knowles as a finalist in the Entrepreneur of Year at the NFYFC achiever awards in November. A fantastic achievement for Maddy! l attended the awards evening and rt was a wonderful celebrab.on of the nominated members. Our carol singing social night on the 14th December was a huge success and one which is the start of Christmas for many of us. Thank you to the New Inn for hosting the event. Members. parents, advisory and the local community came out to enjoy singing carols, accompanied by a brass ensemble of club members. I can only commend Fin Kevern for his singing efforts, even if a little out of tunel This was followed closely on the 19th December with our Carol Singing Tour. This year members visited Polventon Care Home, St Keverne Square and the Prince of Wales pub. Thanks to the Polventon Care Home and the Prince of Wales for allowing us to visit them. The carol singing raised funds for our iwo nominated charrties, West Cornwall Search and Rescue and Farm Cornwall. Other Christmas activities included the club Christmas meal at Henley's, thanks to Izzy Dark our social secretary for organising. It was a lovely evening and the Secret Santa was great fun. The club took part in the Cornwall Federation YFC Christmas tree trail. Our Christmas tree was situated at the Wynnstay store in Helston and was decorated with sustainable decorations as per the brief given. Thank you to Amanda Rowe for allowing us to place the tree there. The annual County Carol service was hosted at Truro Cathedral and once again a lovely evening. with everyone joining together to celebrate the Christmas season and catch up with old friends and new. The Tinsel Ball closely followed a few days later.
Sithney Church kindly invited us to join them in their 'Plough Sunday, service in early January. Thank you to the congregation of the Church for their warm welcome and refreshments. On 9th January we were pleased to join up with Roche and Probus YFC clubs to go ice skats'ng at the Eden Project. It was a very good evening and joining up with other clubs gave everyone chance to meet up with other YFC members. The club were pleased to team up with Wildlife Groundswell to put on a well supported communily evening. This evening comprised a screening of the 'Six Inches of Soil, film. This was followed by a panel discussion by Michael Dray, David Oates and Chris Knowles. Thanks again to the Oates family for hosts'ng the evening. Anolher new event and one which was really well supported. A pasty supper finished the evening. Next in the year Game the public speaking competitions, The speaking day was held on the 19th January at the Royal Cornwall Showground, the senior public speaking team consisled of Lowri Lougher, James Bloomfield, Chelsea Gilbert, Tom Pearce and Ed Hosken and they came third a great effortl Tom Pearce was selected to be part of the Cornwall YFC composite team in the Senior After Dinner speaking and achieved first place at the South West Area round, progressing onto Nationals, being placed fifth. Well done to Tom and the rest of the team. In the days leading up to our annual Dung Run, club and advisory members pulled together and bagged dung, to sell on the 8th February at Sithney Common Hill layby. Thanks. once again, to the Dark family at Trudnce Farm for allowing us to use their yard and dung. Early in March some members went along to the South West Area Weekend, this year it took place in Weston-super-mare. The weekend was great fun, with a black tie and fancy dress night, and of course some serious competitions throughout the weekend. Members got stuck into a range of competitions, from public speaking to sand castle building. In April, we arranged a local perfomiance of our pantomime entry at Marazion Community Centre, along with St. Buryan and Madron. This was well supported by members, family and friends of the three clubs. The pantomime team progressed through County, Soulh West Area rounds and finally making it to the National final. A fantastic achievement for all three clubs l A special ments'on to Lowri Lougher being awarded the best supporting performer and Ollie Pearce who won best leading performer at County Level and best performance for a lead role at the South West Area round. Many thanks to Rachael Eustice for writing directing the pantomime. Rachael must have had a lot of patience in the six months, from the start of rehearsals to the final performance, her commitment to the panto was fantasts'c and She even celebrated a special birthday with the cast at one of the rehearsals. The infamous East Versus West Rugby Match took place on 17th April with Club members Ed Boaden. Owen Williams, Ed Buchanan, Henry Ruscombe-King. Fin Walsh-Newton, Harry Walsh-Newton and Angus Williams making up some of the west team. Lauren Wiliams won tr)p lady at the annual County clay breaker day. Well done to Lauren. Ed Hosken represented Cornwall YFC at the NFYFC clay pigeon shooting finals on 5th July. He was placed a fantastic 14th place out of 26. NFYFC offer some amazing travel opportunities, of which several members have taken part in over the years. This year Betty Buchanen went to Canada as part of the NFYFC travel scheme for what looked like a once in a lifetime opportunity. The YFC'S Annual County Competitions Day on 17th May, saw lots of members travelling to Boskenwyn Manor Farm at Gweek. This years event was organised by our very own Ollie Pearce. It was fantastic to have such a large number of keen members in attendance, who were all willing to give everything a go. We were delighted to win a few prize cards which is always great, but more importantty members had a great day. The year soon progressed to Royal Comwall Show preperations. Much time and effort was spent on our cubicle entry 'Noddy goes to Toyland, for the Royal Cornwall YFC entry. Thanks to Angela and Leslie Wallis for allowing us to work on the cubicle at Burnuick Farm. A special thanks to those members that were there most nights, for several weeks, we couldn't have done it without you. The club also took home the John Woolcock Memorial Cup for the most points in the first aid quiz. We were proud to hear that Lowri Lougher had been asked to represent Comwall at the NFYFC Dairy Judging Finals at the Great Yorkshire Show. Lowri came 4th in the senior section and the Cornwall team came overall third, a fantastic achievement. An evening was arranged on the 18th July to raise funds to purchase some tug of war equipment for the club. This new event was a huge success and it was lovely to see so many, including past members. support the Sheaf Pitching and Tug o, War evening. It is hoped that this may be an annual event, which perhaps the Tug o, War teams could take the organisation. The club's annual Tractor Run was held on Sunday 10th August, with the addition of the 'Big Breakfast, this year. We were lucky with the weather, which was perfect for everyone to enjoy seeing the tractors and enjoy a full English cooked BIG breakfast, outside on a lovely sunny morning. The day was a great success. with hjo servings of breakfast seNed, along with bacon rolls. and a pasty lunch. Lots of tractors took part and a good crowd of supporters came along. An enormous thank you tr) the Webb family and Emma Hosking, without their help and support the day would not have run so smoothly. We would like to thank Treleague Farm for hosting an ice cream stop, Trink Dairy for the milk donation. Cornhill for the egg donation, the advisory and members for all Ihe help.
County Ralty was hosted by the Knowles family, at Trezelah Farm ffrink Dairy) on 2nd August. Lots of prize cards were awarded to members and the club took home the Prudential Cup for most points in the practical section. Thank you to the club members and supporters who attended the day. The Comwall YFC VVOTNOT this year was 'Olds Odessey,. Sophie Olds. the County Chaifman, led 13 members plus back up support. The group included 7 members riding bikes and Colin and Ted on back up, representing our club. The cycling route was over 250 miles. from Mont St Michel in France to St Michael's Mount in Marazion, over four days. The team, to date, have raised almost £10,000 for Cornwall Air Ambulance and had a great time supporting each other and joining with other clubs from the county. After months of hard work. our Vice Chairman. Assistant Secretary and Assistant Treasurer pulled off another Successful Club Ploughing Match on 6th September. Well done to James Bloomfield, Ed Hosken and Lowri Lougher for organising a fantastic day. The event was held at Pentire Farm by kind permission of Mr M Rowe. The day was well supported, but unfortunately the evening was prety quiet. Thank you to all of the members, advisory, and supporters who contributed to making the day such a success. The club have been proud to support Ollie Pearce in his role as GP Committee Chairman for the County YFC. I think we can all agree he's done a great job in his role. Thank you to our President, Advisory Members, Club Leaders. Life Members, and supporters, who have always been on hand to help and give advice whenever required. As a club, we are very lucky to have such a strong support neork, for that we are very grateful. Finally, I'd like to thank Lowri and Tom for being such a supportive Chairman and Treasurer team. The Club has had another busy year and you have made my role as secretary a lot easier. Thanks to Lowri for helping me ar going above and beyond to help out with the papeorkI0rgan1sIng when I'm needing a hand and thank to Tom for being there with his 'cool as a cucumber, att¢tude and nothing being too much trouble. When I first sat down to write this report, the plan was to keep it short, it turns out we had a lot to celebrate. Independent examiner’s report to the trustees
I report to the charity’s trustees on my examination of the accounts of Helston & St Keverne Young Farmers Club (the trust) for the year ended 31st August 2025.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under Section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commissions under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner’s statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect;

accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130 of the Act or

the accounts do not accord with those records or
-
the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
