Launceston Yfc Annual report 23/24

Mr President and fellow members, what a year it has been – in some ways, the last 12 months have flown past, but in other ways, it has been the longest 12 months of my life.

We have a number of interesting club meetings throughout the year, from visiting Smallridge’s depot in Callington, to a talk from a local vet, and even a tour of Cornish Orchards cider farm. A big thank you must go to Chloe, for organising such a varied and interesting programme throughout the year.

Some of my proudest moments this year were the club showing off its high levels of creativity and talent that our members have. The quality of entries at all competitions was extremely high, with our cookery team qualifying for the national finals, Phoebe Scott winning Cornwall Young Stockman of the year, and our men’s tug of war team winning competitions day and getting through to the Southwest Area round.

I was pleased that the year started off well, producing 2 cabaret acts to be entered within the county round at the Hall for Cornwall. As many of you will know, 6 of us performed our circus themed dance after months of long practices. However, our second act was pulled together in a matter of days, after we managed to persuade George Bearns and Luke Bradley to perform. A huge well done to both, however, a particular shoutout to Luke, for showing what YFC is about – taking opportunities and challenging yourself.

One of my favourite events on the YFC calendar is Royal Cornwall Show – and this year did not disappoint. We were given the cubicle theme of Madonna – after a few evenings of brainstorming, we finally came up with our cubicle ideas and got to work. I was delighted that our hard work paid off, and we came second with the cubicle and second overall, a massive achievement to come second place out of 20 clubs.

The next big event on the calendar was Launceston Show – this is always really high pressure for us, as the show is held 2 days prior to Rally. This year members worked hard and pulled together in order to fill the marquee with a record number of entries, and we had many comments complimenting how fantastic the marquee looked. A huge thank you goes to the members for their hard work and dedication shown throughout this week – it’s a huge pull of club efforts in order to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that we are able to run the after party, fill the Launceston Show Marquee, and then complete the entries for rally 2 days later.

For this year’s rally, we headed to the County Chairman, Tom Retallick’s home farm in Talskiddy. Members turned out in force to enter all of the competitions going on throughout the day – we also had nearly every competition entered, a huge achievement for Launceston YFC. Well done to every single member who helped in anyway.

Lastly, a massive well done to everyone for their fundraising efforts throughout the year, from our Easter Bingo held at Wilsey, to our annual dung run. Every effort from members is highly appreciated, and the club wouldn’t be as successful as it is without everyone chipping in and helping. I know that myself

and Anna are looking forward to our charity cheque presentation in a few weeks – it’s brilliant to be donating to PoTs UK, and Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Lastly a big thank you to everyone for making the last 12 months a success – I am wishing Harri, Sarah and the rest of the committee the very best for the fourthcoming year.
