TRUSTEES. REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31" DECEMBER 2023 Ich r Cat Rescue Charity Re8iStration number 275238 The Sanctuary." Prettygate. Colchester C03 4NW tel 01206 576085 lopen 9- 5pm Mon to Sat, ck)5ed on Bank Holidays) Hist and ur We have now been going for over 45 years as a Registered Charity, formed by a Deed of Trust in 1978. Well over 16000 cats have been treated and rehomed in this time in the Colchester area. helping stray and abandoned cats as well as owners who can no longer look after their cats. This is due in the most part to our founder, the late Sheila Parson50n who was awarded the MBE by The Queen for services to animal welfare in 2LK12. We are a small independent charity, not connected with any other rescue. Activities and ob ectlves The Charity's main aim is to rescue and rehome cats and klttens in the Colchester area. However, there are so many in need now that we cannot cope with the number of requests that we get. We fully vet check all new arrwals to 8ive them the best future,. we neuter, vaccinate and microchip all the cats. We can look after up to 50 cats and kittens, and we have a non euthanasia policy, never putting healthy cat to sleep. Any cats that we have been unable to rehome, due to ongoing medical. infirmity or behavioural problems, continue to live out their lives at the Sanrtuary for as long as they need a home. We have about 10 of these cats at any time, they have large spacious cat runs in our quiet meadow to enjoy the outdoors. and heated accommodation and veterinary treatment whenever needed. Revlew of finances The Trustees, policy is to ensure that the Charity has sufficient reserves to cover the running costs of the Sanrtuary for twelve months. Thi5 was particularly important due to the Covid-19 pandemic since March 2020, as the CharitV'5 income virtually dried up overnight, a5 our former Charty Shop was required to close immediately due to the Government's Covid restrictions. We moved our Charity Shop out of the town centre to the Prettygate shopping parade in Colchester. It opened in April 2021 after the final lockdown. and has proved to be very successful. It is much more spacious, being three times the size, for the same rent as in the town. The premises had recently housed Prettygate Post OfFice, which we applied to reinstate. We reopened Prettygate Post Office within the shop in August 2021, giving us an additional income st￿aM, and proving to be very popular with the local residents. We are very well supported there, and get a lot more donations as we now have 8 wider catchment area. As well as all the usual Post Office services lie. draw outlpay in tash to most High St bank accounts, pay in cheques, local banking of takings for other nearby businesses, buying Eur05 or pre-ordering other currencie5, mobile phonelgaslelertric meter top-upsl we provide Royal Mail and Parcelforce customer ￿turnS and collections. Since April 2023 our Post OfFice 81so offers DPD and Amazon customer returns and collections.

The new shop came with a large flat above it, which has been rented out from the start to bring in more income. Our late founder's house "Lyndhurst" also continues to be let OLrt, providing valuable income and overnight presence at the entrance of our site. Any legacy we receive is very welcome, as these continue to secure the future of the Sanctuary, and we hope that people will think of leaving us a legacy in their will. However, by their very natu legatie5 are often unexpected and cannot be ￿lled upon. We hope that if we receive future legacies we will be able to increase the number of fdts that we can help. Thank you to all our supporters.
