**Shrublands Youth & Adult Centre Charitable Trust Chairman’s report for year ending March 2021** This has been a very strange time and only 7 months since my last report. This being due to the ongoing Covid pandemic. Unfortunately, the centre has been closed for a considerable percentage of the past 12 months and only open under licence for a few months. The activities have all been charity run and access to the centre has been very strictly controlled with door entry control and a strict cleaning and sanitising regime The trustees have been able to maintain contact with all meetings taking place via Zoom conferencing. However poor Internet and wifi have made this sometimes a little difficult. This is something we will be investigating and improving upon over the next few months. Unfortunately we have received a resignation from Peter Kilpatrick and Trevor Edwards has indicted that he will be moving away from the area in the not too distant future. This will have a major impact on the charity and we must all contribute to recruiting new trustees as soon as possible. Julie Woods our manager has worked extremely hard keeping everything running at the centre together with researching and writing many funding applications of which a number have been successful. The funding received will allow us to extend the short term employment for our community checkers who are carrying out door to door knocking throughout the whole of Gorleston, offering residents signposting to services, advice, guidance and help relating to their wellbeing during the Coronavirus restrictions. The amount of people who have already benefitted from this service and the case studies reported are really outstanding, and an accolade to them for their hard work and dedication. Also included within the funding received there is a substantial amount allocated for the future sustainability and development of the centre. The ongoing delay regarding the future of the temporary NHS health Centre on site has not moved on and we still have no further information. However, Norfolk County Council have instigated discussions with us regarding the possibility of a temporary trial tenancy to manage the barn, reception & Macey buildings. Unfortunately due to the complications regarding shared utility services, gas, water and electricity, we are unable to agree to the terms until these have been acceptably proportioned. This is a complicated process and may take several months to sort out. The charity have also secured professional advice regarding the tenancy agreements before we sign them. If this agreement proceeds this would be a very positive move to further advance the use of the centre, services and activities provided for the local community. I think we are all looking forward to getting the centre running again once the pandemic lockdowns and restrictions are lifted later in the year. In the meantime a big thank you to everyone involved at the centre and with the charity.
