## **Objectives and Activities**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document|Para 1.17|**The objects of the fund shall be the care**
**and protection of German Shepherd**
**Dogs that are in need of such by reason**
**of sickness, maltreatment or poor**
**circumstances, and the prevention of**
**cruelty to and suffering amongst such**
**animals.**|
|Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.|Para 1.17 and
1.19|**The committee strives to help any**
**German Shepherd in need that is**
**brought to our attention. We often**
**collect these dogs from homes, kennels,**
**veterinary practices or bad situations**
**and take them to a pre-arranged**
**boarding kennel, for which we pay their**
**boarding fee for the entire time they are**
**in our care. If these dogs prove**
**unsuitable for homing through health or**
**temperament, we pay their boarding**
**fees for the rest of their life. We raise**
**funds to pay for their kennelling and**
**veterinary fees. If a dog comes to us**
**sick, or suffers ailments whist in our**
**care, we ensure they receive prompt**
**veterinary treatment irrelevant of the**
**cost. We do our best to rehabilitate dogs**
**that are brought to us with temperament**
**issues. We will only rehome a dog once**
**we know it is safe to do so. Sometimes**
**rehabilitation can take months, but we**
**do not let length of time with us and the**
**cost of kennelling cloud our judgement**
**as to their suitability for rehoming.**|
|Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit|Para 1.18|**The Trustees’ are aware of the guidance**
**of the Charity Commission on public**
**benefit and respond accordingly.**|

## **Achievements and Performance**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.|Para 1.20|**Since GSD Welfare became a registered**
**charity, we have homed in excess of**
**9,000 German Shepherd Dogs. We also**
**have an increasing number of dogs in**
**our care that are not fit for rehoming**
**due temperament and health. These**
**dogs will remain in our care for the rest**
**of their days being cared for and living a**
**happy existence. For many of the dogs**
**that come into our care there can be no**
**doubt that we were their last hope.**
**Without us, these dogs would have**
**been euthanised. We have taken dogs**
**into our care when owners could no**
**longer afford veterinary fees for their**
**ailments. Their only alternative would**
**have been euthanasia. We have**
**collected dogs from veterinarians,**
**where their owners have taken them for**
**euthanasia through health or**
**temperament or sometimes because**
**they are just no longer wanted. We do**
**not discriminate. I f a German Shepherd**
**needs our help, we strive to provide that**
**help for as long as it is needed.**
**Currently we have more dogs in our**
**care than we have ever had. It is a**
**lockdown / post lockdown problem. A**
**large number of these dogs have**
**problems due to the situations in which**
**they were acquired and brought up. To**|

**remedy this They are receiving appropriate behavioural support. We also provide dog guardians with online advice and support in a range of options.**

|Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held|Para 1.22|**In order to continue carring out our**
**work and to protect the dogs in ourcare,**
**it is essential that funds are held in**
**reserve e.g. to cover periods where**
**fundraising may be minimal for**
**whatever reason.**|
