Section D Achievements and performance Summary ofthe maln a¢hl•v•m•nts of Ihe charlty durfng th• year Bonfire Nlght and Chlldrey Festlval wero once again our major fundralslng events. Tho pavlllon and playlng field were also used for the annual vlllage $ummer fete and was rented out on several occaslons for parttes, famlly gatherlngs and as a parklng area for several wet*Jings and other vlllage events, tncludlrKJ musl¢ events far the local churchgs. Durtng the year, some funds that were left over from the Coronalton Tea wor& donatad by the Parish Council lo contribute lo the purchase of a new gazebo which was r84uired by th8 trust for events. It was agreed that the gazebo ¢>)uld b6 u$ed by the village organlgationg and rented to villagers for a nominal sum for privat8 8V8nts. Thls wa$ rant8d tsica durlng tha y&ar. Routine malntenanc8 to th8 fiéld has contlnued wlth grassryCUtUng and wéed control. The trust would Ilkè to thank thè small group of vlllagers that are Involved In the grass c#Jttlng rota using th8 trust sitwon mower (purchased last year) now that grass ¢uttlng18 no longèr wovldad by the parfsh coun¢ll. The playground's dimbing net which was purchased towards the end of last financial year. was frtt8d in spring 2024 and one of the climbing frame posts was replaced. The infant swings were replaced and other minor playground repairs were carTied out. The Trustees hope to updale 8lemenls of the playground In due course. Some of the old zlp wire poles were repurposed to fomi a barrler to stop people ddvlng on to Ihe grass whlth damages the field. It is hoped that more work can l)? don6 on the drlveway Sn 2025126. Thè football facilities continue to b8 hired during tho year for fcotb811 training by four te8m8 from Wantage Town FC and one tsam from East Challow. The team8 included children from the village therofore malntslnlng a Strong the Ilnk to local residents. There also contlnues to be regular use of the goals by famllles In the vlllage. The Trust continued to support Lftue Ducks preschool. Dlscussions r8main on4Jolng regardlng the long-term position. The Trust feel It Is Important that Ihey contlnue to offer thelr support for Little Ducks as vttal organlsatlon V1n th8 vlllap arml for our prlrnary school. As roported last year, tho Parish Council'$ de¢lslon to no longer support the pl8ying fiald resulted in the Trust taking a proactlve declslon to purchase a n8W Sit-on mower at Ihe end of last finandal year. As reported above. the trust relies on a small supportive group ol vlllager8 to ¢ut the grass on a rota basls 1¢h Ihe trust estimates sav85 It approxlm8tely £2,500 each year. though thls wa8 8 80und economlc declslon, the purthaso of the new mower did substantially impact the trust's avallable funds and delayed the upgrade of the playground for the I1 resldents which was unfortunate. The Trustees dlscussed with Ihe Parlsh Councll the possibility of an annual grant towards the upkeep of the plawng field in light of its continued use and enjoyment by Ihe local communlty. however funds were not forthcoming and it is with regret that the Trust believe that thls TAR March 2012
