Summary ofthe main
achievements
ofthe charity
during the year
This year saw another successful
Bonfire Night and Childrey Festival
our major fundraising
events. The Playing
Field also hosted ajubilee
event forthe village which was a wonderful
way for the village to
as
celebrate the Queen's
Platinum
Jubilee together.
Routine maintenance
to the field has continued
with rolling the pitches
and grass cutting however there has also been substantial
work done
on
replacing the xlpwire where the main structure
has now been erected
with a view to completing
the build
in spring 2023.This has been
achieved
with the support ofa broader group ofFriends ofthe Playing
Field. There was also a slgnlficant
amount oftree maintenance
work
undertaken
which will confinue
into 2023/24 financial year.
The improvement
ofthe driveway
and parking area and the replacement
ofthe Pavilion's
front guttering
did not occur in the year due to the
signiTicant time and costs involved
with the zipwire replacement
and tree
maintenance.
However,
it is hoped these tasks may be scheduled
for
2023/24 or 2024/25.
The storage facility has largely been completed
with work being
supported
by our DoEvolunteers.
Work on the storage area will continue
with some internal
insulation
and shelving
still to be added.
The boys' and girls' football teams completed
another successful season
however the boys' team will disband at the end ofthe season now they
are ofschool-leaving
age and the girls' team is moving toWantage Town
FCto be part ofa bigger club. It isexpected that football
will continue
at
Childrey asthe facilities will be used by Wantage Town FCas a training
ground which will deliver additional
income for the trust. There also
confinues to be regular use ofthe goals by families
in the village.
The park has seen the continuation
ofChildrey Park Fitness through
a
dedicated
group ofsupporters
and the Trust continued
to support
LiNe
Ducks preschool.
Their Ofsted inspection of2021 highlighted
the
requirement
for more space which has now been achieved
by the
erection ofawooden
outbuilding
to the side ofthe pavilion.
Planning
permission
was not required
due to the temporary
nature ofthe building.
As with everyone,
the cost ofelectricity has caused some concern
through
the year however these have been minimised
by switching toa
smart meter and adopting a fixed rate contract which was supported by
the Government's
Energy Bill Relief Scheme.
As Co-Chairman,
I would like to acknowledge
the support ofthe
volunteers
and members
ofthe trust who continue to support the Playing
Field.
