OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

The objective5 of the charity are to promote thc ¢du¢ational, medical and social welfare of person5 suffering from
phenylketonuria and SiTnilar disorders controlled by diet, to establish or encourage research in phenylketonuria and
related disorders, lo e5tsblish and maintain a fund or funds from which to make gTants for the purpose of fulfilling the
objects of the society, to invite, procure. appeal for, coll¢¢t and r¢ceive and a¢¢epi subscriptions. donalions. legacie5
and gifts of money, investment5 or other property. The truslc¢s hav¢ referred io ihe guidance contained in the Chariry
Cominisston's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the Charity's aims and objectives, and in planning
futur¢ objeciives.
Grantmgking p&licv
Tht allocation of grants is decided on an individual basis as an application is made. The application where possible will
be discussed by the Council of Management (anonymously if necessaryl but if this is not possible 2 decision will be
rnade by the senior officers and minutes taken at rhe nexi Commilte of Management meeling. Where applicabl¢, we
shall seek gllidance from our M¢dical Ad￿.1$gry Panel.
Volunteers
All member5 of the Council of Manag¢m¢nt ar¢ volunteers. They are encouraged to tontribute freely to all discussions

The National Society for Phenylkeronuria (NSPKU) has had an exceptional year, with continued success in its
advocacy, ￿ndraisIng, research. and Communiry suppoff iniiiatives. As we reflect on the past 12 months, we are PToud
to highlight the remarkable progress made in improving ihe lives of people living with PKU. expanding our reaclL and
st￿ngthCntng our influcn¢¢ in public h¢alth policy and awar¢n¢ss.
Advocacy Campaigning Sllccess
NSPKU has remained at the forefront of advocating for iinprovcd Ireatm¢nt a¢¢¢s5 and sllpport for individuals living
with PKU. This year. our work ha5 focused on..
Access 10 Treatment.. NSPKU has continued to carnpaign for better access to treatnients siich as sapropterin
IKuvan} and new therapies Ln development. We have worked closely with policymakers, healthcare leaders.
and patient advocates to push for equitable access to medication5 and dietary 5UPPOrt acros5 all NHS
regions.
Engagement with Parliament and Healthcaie Bodies.. NSPKU representatives have takcn PKU awareness to
parliamentary discussions, meeiing with MPS and govemmenl health officials lo highlight the challenges of
PKU management and the need for susiained NHS funding for treatment and dieiary support.
Taking PKU Awaieness to Parliament.. NSPKU iepresentalives have act2vely engaged with MPS and
policymakers. ensuring that PKU remains on the agenda. Oui efforts have contributed 10 increased
parliameniary awareness, panicularly in discussions on healihcaTe funding, dietary rnanagemeni support,
and thc need for poli¢y Changes that would improve the lives of those with PKU.
NSPKU at ihe ESPKU Conference.. The society played a significani role in this year's European Society foi
PKU IESPKUI Conference, held in the UK. The event provided an oppornnity io collabora(e on
international best practi¢¢s, share research updates, and sirengihen alliances wilh global PKU advocaies.
Campaigning for Fairer PKU Managemeni Guidelines". NSPKU has worked tirelessly 10 ensure thai
health¢ar¢ professionals, schools, and workplaces understand the unique dietary and medical needs of PKU
individuals. with updated gllid¢lin¢s and poli¢y proposals submilled ro rel¢vanl 8uihoriiies.
2. Community. Supp•rt #nd Engagement
Providin8 direct support lo PKU individuals and fatnilies rernains central to NSPKU'S mission. This year, w¢ hav¢
expanded our services and educaiional iniiiaiives. ensuring ihat people with PKU have access lo expert guidancc.

Expansion of The NSPKU Helpline.. OUT telephone and online support services have been enhanced to offer

EducatEonal Webinars and Resources.. NSPKU has h05ted Several online seminars with leading metaboli¢
specialisis and dietitians, ensuring PKU palienis. parents. and caregivers have aeeess to the latest ]nedical
guidance and research.
Edale Acrivily Weekend.. One of the most su¢cessfvl communiry events this year wa5 the Edale Activity
Weekend. which broughi togeiher children aged 8-12 living with PKU foT a weekend of outdoor adventure,
confidence-buildu)g. and peer suppon. The weekend. subsidised by Ni SPKU. was an opportunity for young
people to develop social Connections and practical skills for managing PKU.
Suppon for S¢hools and NuTscrics.' The NSPKU has aciivcly supported parents and educarors. ensuring
children with PKU rc¢¢ive appropriat¢ dietary and mcdical accommodaiions. A key success has been
Hurley's Nurscry, which sei an example by tmplcm¢nling a PKU-fricndly meal plan and supporting dietary
Compliance for one of its pupils.
