Dear Members

Welcome ladies to our 2023 conference, and how lovely to be in historic Stratford Upon Avon. Thank you everyone for being here.

Since last year, we have seen King Charles 111 crowned, and I know many of our clubs joined in with celebrations in honour of the event. Maureen Harwood our Treasurer, along with her husband Derrick, who many of you know, was in fact lucky to have a place outside Buckingham palace on the day.

Three NAWC lunches were also held across the country in honour of the occasion. One at Haydock with the North West ladies, one at The West Midlands Gold club, and one in London, at the Royal Albert Hall. The London lunch also included a tour which was interesting, and we received excellent feedback. All the ladies that attended enjoyed themselves. Myself and Maureen attended all three lunches, and it was lovely to spend time with members, and catch up with friends.

The NAWC committee have been having regular meetings as usual over the last year, and have been keeping an eye on things. We did as we reported last year lose some clubs during the pandemic, but many of our clubs are going strong and in fact have some new members.

As always the year ahead may present some challenges but the committee and staff will do our best to move forward, and we look forward to upcoming carol concerts later in the year.

Promoting ourselves needs to be top of our to do list, so we can encourage more ladies out there to join our wonderful association and help keep our numbers up. Fundraising also would help our coffers, and we have our Grand draw this autumn so if you can all encourage your fellow members to support this by buying some tickets that would be appreciated.

All that remains is to wish you a Happy Conference, and happy & successful year within your clubs

Chris

## **EXECUTIVE COMMITEE**

The Executive Committee is the governing body of NAWC on which every local Association has an elected representative and the Single Clubs have four appointed representatives.

During the Coronavirus pandemic the meeting of the Executive Committee which usually met in London each May was cancelled.

It was then reinstated to a Zoom meeting instead for those who could attend back in July 2021, the committee was at conference 2022, and 2023, and with fewer associations now, zoom continues to be a more viable option.

## **FUND-RAISING & PROMOTIONAL COMMITTEE MEETING**

Most branches of NAWC raise money for many good causes but NAWC as a registered Charity in its own right, relies heavily on the goodwill of members to raise funds to keep the organization viable.

The **Home Counties Festival** of Carols and Christmas Songs took place in December, and made a profit of £500.00 for 2023/2024.

. At the last zoom executive meeting it was agreed that we must make promoting ourselves a priority.

## **79[th] ANNUAL CONFERENCE**

**The Conference was held in September 2023 at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Stratford Upon Avon.**

Conference started on Friday evening with a welcome by our Chairman, and a lovely dinner. Claire then hosted chocolate bingo with novelty bingo cards.

There were many stalls and craft items for sale. All our usual raffles and the guess the weight of the cake and contents in the jar went down well.

The conference itself started with our banner parade and a morning reading, the resolutions from Head Office then followed. All passed.

**The conference Competition** was any handmade craft item to encourage more entries.

The afternoon session was our AGM, and then after the coffee break we had a local entertaining speaker, in historical dress..

The day closed with raffles and thanks, and there was 32 in attendance. A lower number due to no local clubs in the area, but a good conference was had.

*********************************************************************

## **LUNCHES HELD DURING SUMMER 2023**

## **TOUR AND LUNCH AT THE ALBERT HALL LONDON Held with a good attendance, and a very interesting tour of the venue.**

## **LUNCH AT HAYDOCK GOLF CLUB – Excellent event always with good attendance**

**LUNCH AT THE WEST MIDLANDS GOLF CLUB – A lovely lunch was enjoyed by all, held in honor of His Majesty the King’s coronation.**

9

## **CAROL CONCERTS – 2023**

Two concerts were held in December.

The first in London at The Salvation Army Hall in Oxford street, and it was the first time we had moved the event to a Saturday afternoon, which worked well for our members.

A wonderful concert took place, with the band and readers and choir.

The Liverpool concert took place once again at the Adelphi hotel, and there was a two course Christmas lunch on offer for those who wanted it prior to the concert. A lovely afternoon was had, with Chris Burton the NAWC chairman in attendance, and Jay and the choir.

************************************************************************************************

## **NAWC Circulation and News & Views**

Two publications of the News & Views were produced in 2023, the look of the publication is now very professional as outside printers produce the booklet for us. Head office removed the large photocopier we had 3 years ago in order to save office costs.

We do need more reports and articles from the clubs as fellow members across the country enjoy reading what other clubs have been up to, and it’s a way of sharing ideas for future club nights and events.

Various email newsletters have been sent to our contacts, we continue to do as much by email as possible now, and only post to those club secretaries etc. that are not on email.

Twice a year there will be a post mail out to all, which will contain the printed news & views and various other NAWC information, and a Christmas card to all clubs in the winter season.
