TOWCESTER & DISTRICT YOUNG FARMERS CLUB CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

For The Period Ended 31 March 2025

Chairman’s report

Well, I’ll start with what an incredibly great year we’ve had as a club. Full of fantastic meetings, county competitions, charity events and our 80[th] anniversary ball.

We started the year with our stand at Blakesley show. Thank you to everyone that helped set up both the stand for the day as well as a huge team effort for what was a cracking doo in the evening.

Meeting then followed in September with our new members evening. Which welcomed back old members as well as some new faces, to mingle and have a good catch up over some burgers and rodeo bull after a long harvest away.

We had many great meetings following this for the year both at the club and away too. From Bingo nights, Morris dancing, FCN/ search and rescue/ BASC talks all down the club. To various farm and business talks from Sharmans, NFU, P&R Burbages, Woods Dairy, Dan Branson’s, James Harrhy’s, Livingstone pick your own and E.M Rodgers to mention a few. So, a great effort and big thanks to our programmes committee this year for that.

Along with these meetings, we undertook various county competitions throughout the year. We placed 3[rd] in the pool and dancing competitions, followed by a couple of 1[st] places in both the darts and bowling competitions. With Rally coming after in May, where we placed 2[nd] overall throughout the day. Was great to see everyone working hard and pulling together for a good club effort. We will bring that 1[st] place back to Towcester next year.

With the rest of our club’s free time, we put on a whole host of charity events, raising tremendous amounts of money for various charities. We started by hosting a Halloween tractor run, raising a whooping £2602.45 for Cynthia spencer.

Following this we had our 80[th] Anniversary ball, which was a fantastic way to celebrate 80 years of Towcester young farmers, with a great crowd of past and present members coming together while raising £1869.22 for the RABI.

Many more charity events followed with a rugby game against Kelmarsh YFC for the yellow wellies charity, making £310.68.

This was soon followed by our annual Christmas tree collection with a great donation from the community raising £330 for the Air Ambulance.

We then took on another rugby match against Towcester veterans for the yellow wellies charity, making another £276.13.

After having a charity break for a few months, we then hosted the annual Clay shoot. This saw great attendance from the general public as well as young farmers members. This was fundraising for the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department at Northampton General Hospital, making £1065.31.

We finally finished the years charity events by hosting a race night for the Injured Jockey Fund in memory of past member Andrew Tarry. This was a fantastic evening to celebrate Andrew Tarry with a sell-out crowd of young and old coming together over some good food and drinks. This wonderful evening sore a total fundraised of £1289.54.

2

I think we can all agree what an extraordinary year we’ve had as a club. Excelling well in county competitions, being able to attend some great meetings from various companies and farmers, along with hosting a whole load of charity events, raising a grand total of £7,743.33 for various charities.

Thanks too:

Frank Burley - Chairman
