TORMARTON PLAYING FIELD MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE ANNUAL REPORT 2020/2021

The Playing Field Committee met on two occasions during the year; 19[th] May and 28[th] September 2020. In addition, on 18[th] October 4 committee members met on the playing field to decide what action was required to re-instate the post and wire fence on the northern boundary.

The following matches were played on the playing field this year: Cricket: Tormarton CC 2; Marshfield CC 2; External 2. Football: Tormarton FC 4 home league games and 1 pre-season friendly. Heritage United FC 12 League Home Games, 2 Pre- season friendlies, 4 Friendly Home games and 1 External Home game.

Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic and government restrictions on movement and socialising severely cut short the sporting activities on the playing field this year and required the pavilion to be closed, apart from one toilet. When games were permitted the players arrived already changed or changed in the open. Also, hand sanitiser was provided for all the participants to use.

In readiness for when the pavilion can be re-opened a risk assessment for legionella bacteria was carried out by D & C Consultants on the water supply in March and a certificate confirming everything was satisfactory was issued after the thermostat controlling the water temperature was increased to between 55ºC and 60ºC and some of the older shower heads were replaced.

Due to the diligence of the committee’s Treasurer, the playing field committee received several grants from South Glos. Council to compensate it for the loss of income caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The playing field’s financial situation this year was also helped by the cancellation of business rates.

At the committee meeting in May the Playing Field Committee reviewed the Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities policies and found them to be fit for purpose.

A significant amount of maintenance work was carried out this year as follows:-

The committee wishes to thank everyone who helped with this work and the playing field is now in excellent shape and is looking very smart.

A new mower for the outer field is being sought since the gang mowers currently in use are in a very poor condition and need replacing before the mowing season next year.

The Playing Field Committee would like to thank members of the cricket and football teams who have helped with maintaining the playing field to a high standard. Our thanks also go to Pam Davis, Betty Berry and Robin Berry for their invaluable help in running the 100 Club, which provides an important contribution towards the playing field funds each year.
