BRISTOL AREA KIDNEY PATIENTS ASSOCIATION Trustees Annual Report 2025 Charity No. 271775

THE BRISTOL AREA KIDNEY PATIENTS, ASSOCIATION TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT Year ended 31st December 2025 The trustees are pleased to present their annual report and financial statements for the charity for the year endinE 31 December 2025. Chairfs report As we prepared to say goodbye to 2025 we very sadly said farewell to BAKPA Trustee, Andy Strange. Andy sadly passed away in November after a short illness that led to further complications, Andy had worked tirelessly with his wife Anne for BAKPA as King and Queen of the Tombola. He is terribly missed by us all on the committee. As a committee we have been working tOW3rds updating our constitution and policies, these all take time and a lot of effort from all involved and as Chairman l am very grateful for all the time that is given to these tasks voluntarily. South Bristol dialysis unit have requested new Tv's to replace the original ones that are now showing their age and some not working, to complete this takes a long time as it all has to go through the facilities provider to let us know what can be installed and when that is completed, BAKPA have agreed to cover the whole cost. Some of the events we have held and supported in the last year are World Kidney Day in the atrium of Southmead hospital, two coffee mornings with bake sale and tombola table. The first was in July in Paulton near Bath and then at St Stephen's church Southmead in November. We also held an event at Stockwood market in October. These events enable us to engage with the general public about kidney issues, as well as fellow patients and staff of the renal department. The Transplant Games team proudly wore their new kit which was sponsored by BAKPA and the subsidy to support team members to take part in the games continues to be gratefully received. BAKPA 5UPPOrted the Transplant Games team with a table display and merchandise which we gave out at the live donor transplant event held at the BAWA sports ground in September. Two of the committee spoke about their personal journeys as a transplant recipient and as a kidney donor. Both properties Hales House and McAllister House are still a great asset to BAKPA. Hales House enables us to provide a safe place for patients and family members to stay near the hospital. It is booked up and in verv Eood demand. The online booking system works very well and the calendar fills up quickly. There is less demand for McAllister House in Torquay which offers the opportunity for a low-cost holiday in Torquay, so the decision was taken to extend the use of the property to Gloucestershire KPA members. We hope this will increase the bookings this year $0 more patients are able to afford a nice holiday. Now it's time to look forward to what 2026 brings to us. Vicky Gardner Chair

Objectives and activities Objects The objects of the charity are.. l. To supplement the service provided by Southmead Hospital s Renal Units for the treatment, welfare and comfort of its patients by providing such facilities, buildings and equipment as the Association may decide are required from time to time for that purpose. 2. To provide recreational facilities, including holiday accommodation, and arrange social occasions for the A550ciation s members, at the Management Committee s discretion. 3. To assist Southmead Hospital s Renal Department in any way that may be within the capacity of the Association to offer from time to time. 4. To arrange and provide for the holding of public exhibitions, meetings. lectures and other promotional events in support of the Association's work, the work of Southmead Hospital's Renal Units and kidney research and organ donation for transplantation. Artivities We 3chieve these objects through our work in partnership with Southmead H05Pltal Renal Department and their five Renal Dialysis Units. Our meetings are regultrly attended by Medical Con5ultant5 from Southmead H05Pltal Renal Department. one of whom is our President. This keeps us updated on the Department's activity which includes transplant statistics for the unit which is currently leading the country in movement toward organ donation. Other issues reported relate to loeal and national policy updates, staffing changes, donor peer mentoring and collaborative way5 in which we can support their work. BAKPA has two properties purchased for the benefit of renal patients. Hales House. a twts-bedrotsmed house in Bristol and McAllister House, a three-bedroomed house in Torquay. We continue to ensure these are well maintained and continue provide valued accommodation for patients and relatives. Use of the holiday accommodation at McAlli5ter House has been less than anticipated and we have decided to ertend the use of the house to our neighbouring KPA in Gloucester. On World Kidney Day in March committee members manned a table at Southmead Hospital with BAKPA promotional items and renal disease educational infc)rmation available to raise awareness of kidney disease. Thi5 was opportunity to speak with the public and NHS staff about renal disease and the importance of looking after one's kidneys. The event was well received with literature being taken for by patient5 and staff from the Outpatient department. BAKPA continues to support those who participate in a team at the annual 8ritish Transplant Games. This year the Games were held in Oxford and for 2026, the planned venue is Sheffield. This year the World Transplant Games were held in Dresden with participants from the Bristol Team attending. Details of the work we s(Jpport are provided below under the heading Achievements und Performance. The trustees have considered the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit. We think that our work provides public benefit in many way5, because the work we do is open to all and m3ke5 a tangible difference to people's lives. We acknowledge the work undertaken and achieved which could not be done without our volunteers. All BAKPA Trustees and Committee members are volunteers, and we are grateful for their contribution.

Achievements and Performance Dialysis Units BAKPA has been pleased to continue to support the five Dialysis Units under the medical care of Southmead H05Pltal Renal Unit. Following last year's installations of televisions for the benefit of patients at Cossham Dialysis Unit. another unit have asked us about installing televisions and we are awaitin8 progress of this request which we are keen to support. We provided greetings cards, gift cards and chocolates as seasonal Christmas gifts to all medical units under the care of the Southmead Renal Unit. The gift cards enable Dialysis Unit staff to buy festive food and drinks for those undergoing dialysis. These gifts have been well received. A request was received from one of the units for small pocket keyring travel tablet containers for patients. We were happy to help the unit with the provision of these. They were required to help patients with their medication compliance whilst dialy5ing. We continue to seek to provide and purchase, when requested, specialist hospital and recreational equipment for the benefit of patients. Properties Hales House our property located close to Southmead Hospital enables patients and relatives to stay near to the h05Pltal when they are away frorn home. This has become more useful with the exp3n5ion of the geographical area covered by Southmead Renal Department. The online booking system commenced last year continues to work well. Hales House provide5 a very welcome resource for patients and their families, who live outside the Bristol area and who are being treated at the Southmead Hospital Renal Unit.
