Aims and Organisation: -
The objects of the Association shall be:
1) To supplement the service provided by Southmead Hospital¹s Renal Units for the treatment, welfare and comfort of its patients by providing such facilities, buildings and equipment as the Association may decide are required from time to time for that purpose.
2) To provide recreational facilities, including holiday accommodation, and arrange social occasions for the Association¹s members, at the Management Committee¹s discretion.
3) To assist Southmead Hospital¹s Renal Department in any way which may be within the capacity of the Association to offer from time to time.
4) To arrange and provide for the holding of public exhibitions, meetings, lectures and other promotional events in support of the Association¹s work, the work of Southmead Hospital¹s Renal Units and kidney research and organ donation for transplantation.
Organisation: -
The Charity operates in the South West of England, serving all patients registered with Southmead Hospital Renal Department. All the Trustees work for the Association on a voluntary basis. The Association has no paid staff or connections with other Charities.
Charitable Activities and Achievements for 2022: -

Maintenance and servicing of a two-bedroom house close to Southmead Hospital, for the use of patients and Carers who do not live locally being treated at the hospital.

Purchase of a holiday house owned by the Association and equipped with facilities, to enable patients to continue their treatment whilst on holiday.

Provide and Purchase, when requested, specialist hospital equipment and recreational equipment for the benefit of patients:

Medical staff training,

Medical equipment for the Renal Units etc.

Provide a quarterly Newsletter for all Patients.

Annual Social for Patients and Carers, & gifts for patients in hospital at Christmas.

Support for Member Patients attending the National Kidney Federation Conference.

Support for Member Patients attending the National Transplant Games
Review of Financial Activities and Affairs: -
The Bournemouth flat was sold, and a house purchased in Torbay to provides much needed holidays for patients and their families and the Association will continue to maintain and refurbish as necessary.
The Bristol house, “Hales House” has provided a very welcome refuge for patients and their family who live outside the Bristol area but are being treated at the Southmead Hospital Renal Unit. This has become a very useful facility as the area covered by Southmead Renal Unit has expanded.

These accounts have been prepared on a "receipts and payments" basis in accordance with section 133 of the Charities Act 2011.

A freehold house in Bristol ("Hales House") for the use of members undergoing treatment at Southmead Hospital Renal Unit was purchased in 1998 at a cost of £52,000.
All owned properties are shown at the original purchase value in the accounts.
All refurbishment, repair and maintenance costs of owned properties are written off as expenditure when incurred and it is the opinion of the Trustees that the aggregate market value of these properties is not less than the values shown in these accounts.

No remuneration of any kind is paid to the Trustees or any employee of the Association (2021: £Nil) No fee is payable to the Independent Examiner.

Independent Examiner's Report on the accounts of the Bristol Area Kidney Patients Association (Charity No. 271775) I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity ("the Trust") for the year ended 31 December 2022, which are set out on pages I to 4. Responsibilities and basis of report As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 ("the Act"). I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's account carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. Independent Examiner's Statement I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in conjunction with the examination which gives me cause to believe that, in any material respect: the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act or the accounts did not accord with the accounting records I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connertion with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
