The Iruslee5. who are directors for the purposes of company law, present the annual report together
with the financsal statements of the charitable company for the year ended 31 July 2025.

Objects and aims
The object ol the charity is to provide the elderty with their own home within the security and
ompanionship of small households which can Provide focal points for goo￿111 and friendly contact
within the Community.
Abberfield (Exmouthl Society is a member of Abbeyfield which is also a registered charity wh￿h
provides homes for the elderty over a wide ian9e of drffering care wrthin the UK.
Objectives, strategies and activities
In furtherance of the objects detailed above, the charity operates a home for up lo 13 elderly residents
al Sallerton Road. Exmoulh providing a safe and secure environment with a communal feel. Overall
direction of the charity and management of the house is undertaken by the Iruslees. The house is run
by a non-re51denl house manager, as5151ed by a deputy and three part-time assisl8nls lo provide
meals. cleaning. laundry and general care for the residents. We do not provide personal cafe", this is
provided by a care agency employed by the resident if required. There is also a part time
adminislralor. Limited use is made of occasional volunteer helpers when available.
Public benefit
In setting objectives and planning activities. the Trustees have considered the Charity Commission's
general guidance on public benefit and lo its supplementary public benefit guidance on fee-charging.
An Individual's economic status. gender. ethnicity, race, Teligion or disability do not fomi part ol our
assessment processes except where the Care offered by the society is not deemed lo be appropriate
for their needs i.e. dementia. severe mobility problems or chronic illness. If needed. the charity assists
residents with Housing Benefit applications to the local authority.
The Iruslees confirm that they have complied with the requirements of section 4 of the Charities Act
2011 to have due regard to the public benefit gLIidan￿ published by the Charity Commission for
England and Wales.

Achievements and Perforrnancè
The home operated by Abbeyfiekl IExmoulhl Society continued to operate throughout the year,
however the charity continued lo have several voids during the year and found it difficuk to re-lel
rooms. The position has improved and is Continuing to impTove as we go forward into a new financial
year. The position is monitored closely by the Executive Committee and reviewed regularty lo ensure
that the home remains viable.
Due to the number of voids and reduced income expenses were monrtored very closely and no Major
work carried out although we continue lo carry out a programme of general improvements such as
replacing carpets and equipment when needed. General maintenance is carried out as ￿quired and
any upgrade required lo meet legislation carried out.
Financial Review
The reserves of the charity as at the year*nd are shown on the balance sheet and remain stable. The
financial situation. in view of the Continuing challenges with voids and the increase in the minimum
wage and employer costs, h85 been reviewed regularly and tt is anticipated that a rent increase will be
required in the next financsal year. Savings have been made where possib5e.
The Charity has no separate funds.
The trustees do not plan any change in the activities of the charity or the way the present actswlies are
conducted, however the Execulwe Committee are reviewing on a regular basi5 to ensure that the
Chaiity provides the aGGornmodation and 5etvice5 needed for present and future residents.

community who have shown an interest in Harding House and have the appropriate experience and
skills that wosjld benefit the Charity.
Specrfic Iruslees are responsible for fire and health and safety. residents. maintenan￿, finance and
stsffing.
Induction and training of trustees
It is the opinion of the trustees that the naluie of the work carried out by the Abbe￿ield IExmouthl
Society Is such that no spe¢ialised training is required for them to cary out their work as Iruslee5.
However. training Is provided for staff and for trustees, where appropriate. lo enable them lo carry oul
specrfic duties or responsibilities. ￿1 new trustees and staff follow an induth'on programme.

The trustees regularly review the major risks which face the Charty and have implemented systems
and procedurès to manage those risks.

I report lo the charity Iruslees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended
31 July 2025.
Responsibilities and basls of report
As the charity's trustees of the Company land a150 its directors for the purposes of company lawl you
are responsible for the preparalwjn of the accounts In accordan￿ with the requirements of the
Companies Act 20061'the 2006 Acl'l.
Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required lo be audited under Part
16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect ol my examination
of your charity's accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 I'lhe 2011 Acl'l.
In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charty Commission under
section 1451511bl of the 2011 Act.

below. These policies have been consistently applied lo all the years presented, unless olherwise
ststed.
Basis of preparation
The frnancial slalements have been prepa￿￿ in accordance wrth Accountrng and Reporting by
Ch8rilies Stslemenl of Recommended Practice applicable lo charrtie5 preparing their accounts in
accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republi¢ of Ireland IFRS
1021 leffeclive 1 January 20151- Icharilies SORP IFRS 10211, the Financial Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 and the Companies Act 2006.
Going concern
The Iruslees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the charitys ability to continue as
a going concern nor any signifunl areas of uncertainty that affect the carrying value of assets held by
the charity.
Income and endowments
l income is recognised On￿ the charity has entrtlement to the Income. it is probable that the income
will be re￿iVed and the amount of the income receivable can be measured reliably.

Donations and legacies
Donations are recognised when the charrty has ljeen notified in Writing of both the amount and
settlement dale. In the event that a donation is subject to conditions that require a level of
performance by the charity before the charity is enlilled lo the funds, the income is deferred and not
recognised until either those conditions are fully met. or the fylfilmenl of those conditions is wholly
within the control of the charity and it is probable that these conditions will be fU￿illed in the reporting
period.
Legacy gifts are recognised on a case by case basis following the grant of probate when the
administratorlexecutor for the estste has communicated in writing both the amount and settlement
dale. In the event that the gift is in the fonn of an asset other than cash OT a financial asset traded on
a recogni5ed stock exchange, recognition is subject lo the value ol the gift being reliably measurable
with a degree of reasonable accuracy and the tille lo the asset having been transferred to the charity.
Defeffed Income
Deferred income represents amounts received for future periods and is released lo in￿ming
resources in the period for which, (( h85 been ieceived. Such income is only deferred when."

Otherincome
Incomo from othèr tradin9 aetivitiès include rental income in rèspect of the tenants at Harding House
and is recognised where there is enlitlemenl.

All expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation lo that expenditure, il Is
probable settlement IS requi￿d and the amount Can be measured reliably. Al costs are allocated to
the applicable expenditure heading that aggiegate similar costs lo that category. Where Gosls cannot
be directly attnbuled to particular headings they have been allocated on a basis consistent with the
use of resources.
Charhable actlvltles
Char4lable expenditure comprises those costs incurred by the charity in the delivery of rts activities
and services for its beneficiaries. It includes both costs that can be allocated directly to such activities
and those costs of an Indi￿Ct nature necessary lo support them.
Go¥emance costs
These include the costs attribvtable to the Charity's compliance with constitutional and statLStory
requirements, including examinats.on of the ststutory accounts, strategic management and Tfustee's
meetings and reirnbursed expenses.

Individual fixed assets costing £500 or MO￿ are initially recorded al cost. less any subsequent
accumulated depreciation and subsequent accumulated Impairment losses.

11 is the Charitsble Company's policy lo maintain the freehold property in a slate of sound repair. the
costs being written off to the Statement of Financial Activitses when incurred. Accordingly. the
Trustees believe that the useful economic life of the buildings is so long and that the residual value.
measured in prices prevailing al the time of acquisition. is so high. that any dep￿ClatIon is not
material to these accounts. Any permanent diminution in the value of freehold property is recognised
in the Statement of Financial Activities when incurred.
Depreciation is provided on tsngible fixed assets so as to write off the cost or valuation, less any
estimated residual value. over their expected useful economic life as ft)Ilows.'

Cash and cash equivalents
Cash and cash equivalents compfise cash on hand and call derKJSrts, and other short-temi highly
liquid investments that are readily convertible lo a known amount of cash and are subject to an
insignificant risk of change in value.
Trade creditors
Trade creditors are obligati07)S to pay for goods or services that h8ve been acquired in the ordinary
course ol business from suppliers. Accounts payable are classified as current liabilities if the charity
does not have an unconditional right. al the end of the reporting period. to defer settlement of the
creditor for al least twelve months after the reporting dale. If there is an unconditional nghl lo defer
settlement for at least ￿Ve1Ve months after the reporting date. they are presented as non-currenl
Trade credf(ors a￿ recognised initially at the Iransaclion price and subsequently measured at
amortised cost using the effethve interest method.
